2008 NBA Draft: Derrick Low works out with Phoenix

Derrick Low (Iolani ‘04) caught on video working out with the Phoenix Suns. (Watch his interview about 6 minutes in. Thanks, Jon).

Projected to be a late second round pick, at best, Low has worked out for the New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Seattle Sonics and the Dallas Mavericks and, should he go undrafted, could be signed as free agent by any one of those five teams. Whether he makes a regular season roster is yet to be seen, but there’s a good chance that he’ll be on a team this summer in one of the various NBA summer leagues that open in July.

You’ve seen girls dunk before (Lisa Leslie, Michelle Snow, Candace Parker)…. but not like this. At 6-8 with a 86″ wingspan, Brittney Griner, a junior center at Nimitz High School in Houston, Texas, started a frenzy when a local news station posted a clip of her on YouTube throwing down various dunks during practice over a year ago. Not much has changed since…

Griner has already been featured on SportsCenter on more than one occasion and nearly recorded a quadruple-double when she scored 29 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, blocked 11 shots and dished out 9 assists in a league game in mid-February. She has verbally committed to play at Baylor University.
