This game is the only bright spot to my week. Both are top 3 (with Kealakehe) in the West. A young, balanced Honoka'a team vs a D2 powerhouse Kohala. I am drooling over this matchup. I think one of the keys to are inside play, Kamu Lorenzo is one of the best in the BIIF, and turnovers with Kohala's press that has been giving teams fits all season. I can't wait!!!!!!!! Who you got? Honoka'a wins 44-47

I got Honoka'a by 10....If you can beat Kohala's press you take away 3/4's of their offense...I think Honoka'a can beat Kohala's press pretty easily this year...Kohala doesn't have the tall athletic guys they normally have that give people problems in the press....

Honokaa by 15+. Dragons struggle a little with full court pressure, but you don't have to prepare for much more than the press in facing Kohala. Cowboys will also sit in a zone and Honokaa can look to many options for scoring this year.

I got Kohala by 15+. Dragons only have Lorenzo to count on. If the other leaders such as Vallente and Meyer step up they might win. We will see who shows up to play!

Honoka'a like bibbyboi said. Kohala is very limited on offense and has to rely a lot on their press, which isn't that good this year because they don't have the size and athleticism that they usually have up front at least.
Also Lorenzo, Vallente, and if Meyer can get it going, it's going to be hard for Kohala to stay with them.
Honokaa takes care of the ball as well and it should be a clear cut victory.
I say Honokaa by 10.

I got Honoka'a on this one.
They have a bunch of great athletes on their team and showed against Kamehameha (who has a press much like Kohalas) that they can break the press with ease and score in a variety of ways. Meyer and Vallente will have to play well, and shoot the ball well. They are both capable of scoring 20 plus on any given night.Posted 2 years ago # -

Kohala won 37-38

Just got back from the Honokaa-Kohala game. Kohala won 38-37. Bautista kid did a great job as usual, playing with leg cramps second half of the game. I say if Honokaa would have won this game it would been because they had eight players on the court(5 plus the 3 blind mice). I agree it is tough playing in Honokaa, but Kohala did a great job and the kids deserved the win.
We might not have the big boys, but speed kills............Posted 2 years ago # -
I was also at the game. Both teams did a great job. Honokaa just couldnt get it going on the offensive end. Bautista is a mean point guard but i think Meyer picked his pockets couple times. Both teams played hard till the end. As for the "three blind mice", no comment.

Nice win for the Cowboys! Free throw attempts: Honokaa 20, Kohala 9. I know Cowboys press, which could cause this disparity but half of the 9 had to have come down the stretch when the Dragons had to foul. In a game scored in the 30's, 20 free throw attempts is a lot.
Reading BIIF scores in the morning paper, my mouth dropped more than 3 times. It also said that HPA led the majority of the game against Kealakehe.

great game, i know lorenzo was beating himself after his missed freethrow but imagine the pressure. bautista is one of the most humble, respectful guys i've ever seen on the court. kohala's a well disciplined team and i can't wait for their next meeting. but damn kohala's crowd is rowdy!!!

wow! Sounds like a great game to witness!
good luck Dragons and Cowboys the rest of the way!
@ iolani5,
I like that "three blind mice"...are those, those striped guys that run back & forth, that never made the basketball team "back in high school" and now riding their "high horse" taking the attention & game away from the kids from time 2 time?
Can I get an application...sounds like fun!
What da hell, WHAT DO I KNOW!?

Kohala and Honokaa's fans are great. Basketball intelligent and they know how to work the refs. Lucky for the BIIF rule of not being able to use artifical noise makers...one year I witnessed Kohala fans with pots and pans!
