2010-2011 BIIF rankings (predictions)

Depending on returning players, team chemistry, and coaching, what is your BIIF ranking for the upcoming 2010-2011 season. Feel free to explain...

1)Kamehameha- They're only losing a few players. None that made any effect this past season. All key players are returning. Apele and Kagawa will be dangerous, but not unstoppable. Just gotta watch out for Lanaki's pull up and Shawn's hustle plays. Kaeo has a nice stroke too. I seen them play together and they're starting to gel well for next year.

2)Waiakea- Most people disagree because of the loss of that Libao boy and Mattos. There will be no one like Libao to balance and control the front court, so they'll have to shoot to be a run-n-gun team. If Janado learns to pass the ball, and Ita controls the ball better, they will be very good. The post is pretty much taken care of. The younger Libao boy grabs boards and attacks the basket. Much too strong for anyone else in the post this year. He really stepped up with his bball IQ and his jumpshots. He will cover up for the loss of Mattos and Morante. That other kid with the long hair will do good in the post too.
3)St.joe- Even with the loss of their "MVP", they will still be good. Sebi is looking good, still got his stroke. But with Mr.Hollywood (Andrade) gone he'll have to take more shots. Fairman will do good in the post do to his size, but it's Sebi who controls the floor. Will the Thrill is alright, but not a team leader. He whines to the refs about every little call. I respect the fact that Ohara-Saft shows humbleness and good basketball IQ. He just needs to bring up his intensity.

Please comment. It will help all coaches, players, and spectators to make this upcoming season a competitive one!!!!

I am interested in knowing more about the West~Hi teams. I know that Kohala, Honoka'a and HPA will be tough again. That's even without Baustista. The sleeper in the BIIF maybe the Wildcats of Konawaena. The Sharpshire kid should be a player on everyones MAP.

Judging by other threads everyone seems to be picking Kamehameha~HI to do extremely well next season. Based on talent alone the predictions should be right. However, will the players/boosters SUPPORT coach Pacheco and his staff? Will they question, complain and in some cases crucify him here on Hoops HI? I'll tell you this much, this team will be FUN to watch.

St Joe's is WILL's team to run. He's his fathers voice on the court. Agreed, Sebi will need to be more assertive. Anyone past the 3 major players on their team is a mystery. I am sure coach Harry is hard at work with these young men.

Not much is being said about Hilo High and the potential of Scotty Wong starting this season. This multi-sport athlete will team with Kainoa Kawaha and should defend their DIV I crown well.

    These are my humble thoughts

@ OldG...I basically agree with everything you wrote...Kam is the front runner...they are the deepest out of all the teams..and they are athletic as hell..still think their streaky shooting is going to be a spot they need to improve on....
Hilo is a sleeper right now but they should be one of the top teams next year..Wong, Kawaha and #44 returning..that's a pretty good 3 to have.....
Waiakea also...they played Kamehameha very close during the summer league without Janado....Not that it holds that much weight but still pretty impressive to see those kids play on that level...
St. Joe's has a lot of kids that hadn't played last year or got minimal minutes last year...I've been going to their practices and they are really improving but they need a lot more work before they are going to be able to compete on the varsity level...also some rumors about a few kids transferring over there...not sure how true those rumors are though...
HPA is going to be tough if they get transfers again...they still have the center and i keep hearing they are going to get a few more kids....
Kohala is always tough and i think they have the style to give anyone trouble...
Kealakehe is going to be huge this upcoming year...they got their pg coming back and a few kids moving up from JV that can play...still think they are going to need to find someone or someone is going to have to develop a better 3pt game to battle for the crown...
Honoka'a...not sure who they have coming back besides Lorenzo...i think he'll have a huge year since he's going to be the star of that team...not sure if they are deep enough though...

Transfers to St Josephs? Are we talking from outta state or outta country. I know the enrollment is significantly down and cut backs have been made.

OldG -- I heard St. Joseph is getting a 7-foot-1 exchange student from the Republic of Sudan in northeastern Africa. He will be a senior and played on the country's national 18 & under team. He's very thin, like a Manute Bol, with a good upside and blocks a lot of shots.

With Coach Harry getting the exchange student, he plans to move Thomas Fairman to the point, to show off Thomas' fast-improving dribbling/passing skills while Sebi Ohara-Saft will continue to play on the perimeter.

Will Scanlan-Leite will graduate early, in late December, and has opted to not play his senior season. He's been offered a lucrative job as a BIIF referee and will start calling games in the upcoming season to balance out the calls when games are held at Pahoa.

And finally, bibbyboi will move into the coaching ranks this year, helping out at Hawaii Prep and teaching that private school how to recruit 7-footers from around the world. I guess the talented 6-foot-6 kid already at HPA is excited about moving to point guard like Fairman.

I can hear the PA announcer already: "Starting at point guard for the Ka Makani is Rokas Maravich!"

Okay -- I'm just kidding. St. Joseph isn't getting any 7-footer from the Sudan. But it made for a good story -- and like some of the blogs on line -- just stretching the truth a little can be fun, too.

I heard the Janado might be moving to Kealakehe??

Not sure if it's true or not.. could be just a rumor. That would hurt Waiakea a lot of he is planning on moving. Waiakea is still going to be a tuff team, but you can say that by how they are playing through the summer league.

From what people said, they played Kamehameha tuff and that could mean a lot, but im sure Kam didn't have all there players also..

    BIIF Standing(East)
    1)Kam
    2)St Joe
    3)Hilo
    4)Waiakea
    5)Keaau

@BIIFFan, Kamehameha had all of their players, or at least all of their main players iirc, but i'm not sure if they were just working on different things or what but Waiakea played them really well, without Janado....They really surprised me...

Waiakea must be improving a lot.. Props to them... I heard they dominated the paint... They must of controlled Jayce and Colby inside... Good Job Warriors

Waiakea struggled against Kona the other week with a couple of girls playing for Kona. Kona had many chances to win it, but Waiakea pulled out a 1 point win...what's up with that?

    @ BIIFFan

The summer league isn't done yet...i think they are starting playoffs pretty soon. Regarding the Waiakea game, Jayce and Colby were not playing. Carvalho isn't even registered in the NJB League because of baseball and Colby only played the first game and then he never went back ever since. I heard he didn't like the fact that the "Head" coach was coaching because their not supposed to coach...right? Anyways, just giving you a heads up!

there's no way that Waiakea can be any lower than
#3! They have the skill, endurance, and most importantly, HEART to be one of the TOP contenders this season. They have some very promising returning players. The only thing the lack this year is a player to balance the floor, easily fixable. Thats the point of this summer league. Its to give player experience of game situations.

That's a good point because Waiakea will be a contender. Plus too, we don't really know what Hilo is capable of doing now because their not in the NJB league and also, St. Joseph hasn't been looking to good even with the BIG 3. I think Waiakea lack Big Men because I only see Brandon Libao cleaning boards. I can't think of his name on Waiakea but there's that other kid, I think he's a freshman and he can jump. Yet again, it's too early to say because anything can happen during the season.

Hilo and a 3 good players coming back with Kawaha, Wong and the big kid(not sure his name).. All 3 kids are athletic as hell and they all got good experiences when playing in states. And I beleive Hilo as HEART as well. They get it from their assistant coach/head coach(Mandaquit). And dont forget they all play great defense. Not like St Joe. and Waiakea who been playing zones this summer league. Waiakea will be more team oriented but they do not have a go to guy. They have some big guys but are under sized. We see how it plays out...

PS. With Honokaa going to D2, How will the schedule be next year? East will have 4 teams(Keaau, Kamehameha, Hilo, Waiakea) and West will have 2(Kealakehe, Kona)?

PS.. You can't count Hilo out becuase they not playing in the summer league.. Im pretty sure some of them are still playing basketball as well as some other sports. I beleive baseball just got done, so it will be nice to see all them basball players back on the court..

@BIIFFan, Honoka'a's going d2 next year? Also St. Joe's has barely played zone this summer league...and what's wrong with zone d anyway? lol...

Honoka'a is going D2? Nah, it wouldn't surprise me because their football program is moving to D2...and they was D1 BIIF Champs this past year. If they do go D2, i think they will be a tough contender!

Why isn't Janado playing with Waiakea?? I also want to see what kam will do with there 2 center's in there.. They will be more well rounded.. St Joe looks to be great next year even when they lose Andrade..

Reguardless, every game will be a dog fight in the BIIF's.. Not much seperation from 1 to 5

I'm not sure why Janado isn't playing...I just got word that Carvalho might be coming back next year, but that's what heard. If it's true then iI agree with your statement with them being well-rounded because they will have an inside rebounding game and also an outside game with their guards. I think St. Joe will be good but I think their weakness will be their bench players. They have to step it up!

    1. Kam HI
    2. Hilo
    3. Waiakea
    4. St. Joe
    5. Kea'au
(Other teams are out of the question)

I hope Jayce is coming back.. He's a talent that needs to be playing even if his sport is baseball.. With him in your line up, they now also become state contrnders.. But this is just my opinion..

PS.. Look how st joe beat hilo without andrade thus past year.. They lose the POY but honestly they don't lose much.. Be on a look out for st joe

I hope he comes back too! In my opinion, he's a good player but I think he's underrated by many people as well as his coach. I say that because I've seen him practice before and he's by far one of the hardest workers on the Kam-Hi team. If you look back at his stats, he's in double figures in rebounds almost every single game and the second leader in rebounds only has 2-4 of that.

Its great that you look at stats to see how good a player does.. but when it comes down to it, its all about the WIN. You can put up the best stats in the league, but if you cant make your team better by winning, somethings wrong...

Does he make his team better? How is his attitude? Does he put in the extra time? Does he get along with players/coaches? First to arrive and last to leave, Leadership?

Well, I hope so.. From what your saying, he a great/hard worker...

i like kam and st. joe. kam can score 70 to 80 a game, easily. st. joseph with will, sebi and fairman is not too shabby either. watched the state volleyball tourney and noticed right away a 6ft.6in. leaper named aaron aweau from waiakea. should have been playing hoops! hilo and waiakea will contend and both schools can shoot to the top if they can get some height.
