today 2010 player of the year came out, Viela won...i think Taufa should of won...is her come back that help them win the state title, and she gave us an exciting game worth watching, no doubt Viela got them to the final with out Taufa rebounce and fast break on the Punahou game they will never make it, i totally agree with OC-16 who voted Taufa valuable player on the semi and final game...if Taufa didn't sit out on the Punahou game she would of domonate both semi and final, good job go to Viela, but next year with out Taufa, Luna will never go pass semi-final i bet anyone out there...why didn't Maeda made the first team, they finish 3rd...who does the vote...

The right choice was made. Even though the Lahain post was great, without Viela, they never get the ball up the court. Viels controls tempo and pace, forces the other team to stop trapping, and initiates the offense. Against Punahou, a team known for trapping and pressing full court, she was able to take care of the ball. Without Viela, they lose badly.

Remember, the post had early foul trouble, and Lahaina still won.

    This is a great choice!

hoopfanatic your right, but i still think the Taufa girl should of won, if she were to return next year, another title might be in the making, looking at the team now with Viela returning, theres no way their gona make it, i remember watching state last year Taufa had double double on all of their 3 games at state, i hope they can find a great post like Taufa to help Viela other than that, Punahou and Kona are the two top for next year, Viela will get her team to state, but will not able to hold on to the title

Taufa was the best player in the state, no doubt about it. She was the one player that no one could guard and no team had an answer for.

Viela and some others are great all around players but Taufa was the difference maker.

are we talking about a state tournament team? or an all state team? state tournament team is made up of the players who played the best in the tournament. and all state team is supposed to be made up of players who had the best season. i didn't see taufa or viela play during the season. so i wouldn't know, but viela seems to run the team so my guess would be viela had the better season, so she should deserve the player of the year award. jmho

thanks db...a good player is that person that lead the team to the game title, not the quarter-final, not the semi-final, the championship,if Taufa didn't fight for those last points to help them win...i don't think Viela would be name Player of the Year...it will be Dawnyelle Awa or Anuhea Wall

A great player leads their team in EVERY game, not just 1 game. If Viela isn't on Lahainaluna, Kona's swarming pressure turns that game into a 20-30 point win. If Viela doesn't play, then the Lahaina post is irrelevant. She will not get the ball, she doesn't score, and the game will be so fast, she would not catch up.

I agree that the post player is very good. But she is allowed to focus and concentrate on just scoring and rebounding since Viela does everything else.

When Viela doesn't score, she still controls tempo and takes care of the ball. When Taufa struggled, Viela is still there to score, take care of the ball, and set up her teammates who aren't one on one players.

There is a huge difference in what each does for the team. That is why the coaches voted Viela for COY, and after all, they usually know the best.

your right HoopFanatic the team need a good point guard,i remember reading the hawaii tribune herald during the konawaena winter tournament,Luna lost by 11pts,Taufa score 23pts while Maiki struggle in that tournament,if she did well, together they would of beat kona,i will still follow up on Maiki's game next season to see how well she does,i know she will do well, she has learn a lot going with team taurasi, you have your opinion and i have mind!!!

i still like the Taufa post player, she left behind a history for the Maui Interscholic League,a game that will never forgotten by the valley isle,is uncertain if any MIL team will ever bring another trophy to the valley isle, who knows a good player can bring home the trophy no matter what,i will keep a close eye on Maiki next state tournament,if they play for the championship game, i will buy you lunch and rest my case!!!!!
