President Obama's Punahou teammate Rich Haenisch became an outstanding player at Chaminade, & beat Virginia in the greatest upset in college hoops history in 1982. Barack was an offensive shooter, no defense, on a 1979 Punahou squad that ranks among the best locally. -Curt

Hi BlackJesus: Isn't freedom's cause about expressing with no fear of retaliation? Your moniker is Jesus, who pronounced Agape love, love one & love all, even Jesus' own persecutors, his pharisees. Thank you for your opinion, which you have every right to express. Much aloha, --Curt

Hi KonaStyle: Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate your response, albeit negative. Not a problem. You are a great contributor to the advancement of hoops knowhow. Goodness -- the internet is a dream come true for us isolated oldsters! Much aloha always, --Curt

Alan Tanabe born 1956 had innate hoop cognition, w/great eyes to capture the flow/nuances of the game. Alan's cogent mind a memory bank for sprung-on plays/moves that caught foes off guard. Aloha, --Curt

Visualize Alan Tanabe as he brings the ball past the half-court. He creates openings. On the other hand,
Yuta Tabuse, quick as he is, not imaginative like Tanabe. Analogously, Tabuse another Alika Smith, while Tanabe is another Steve Nash. Thanks, --Curt

Alan Tanabe is still fit as a fiddle, solid as ever, a prideful fitness buff. His only age give-away is his salt-pepper hair. He still has his patented cheshire grin that connotes "brother, you got iced." Yikes!! Actually, Alan is the nicest fella in the world, always cheery & pleasant w/never an angry word. Born in 1956, Alan probably can outplay on wits alone most kids nowadays. Thank you, --Curt

Alan Tanabe's mental toughness/tenacity set him apart from others. His life is basketball, nothing else. On hoops, Alan is our professor emeritus. He breaks down the game like no other, our version of Hubie Brown. Thank you, --Curt

Found this on the Big Island Chronicle Website

"Curtis Narimatsu is a lifelong resident of Hilo who writes about the forgotten past such as the old plantation days & untold heroes."

Pistol Pete Maravich is the greatest passer ever in the NBA/NCAA. Ah Chew Goo born 1918 had to work straight out of high school, & never had the opportunity for higher education/Olympic participation/NBA [NBA arrived after Ah Chew's era]. Pistol Pete's dad Press put together what eventually became Pistol's instructional drills based on Ah Chew Goo's moves. When Pistol came to play in Hawai'i, he/dad Press wanted to see Ah Chew, but their game schedule averted their coveting to see the Master. Ah Chew always has a soft spot for Pistol, despite Pistol's flying hair/floppy socks, because Pistol is Ah Chew incarnate, minus Ah Chew's 90 degree cut cross leg dribble/duck walk full sprint dribble/reverse spin pass in opposite direction of foil arm extension/reverse spin pass-dropped ball resulting in reverse tap of heel to receiver/etc., all which Pistol never engineered. Much aloha, -Curt

I do have a question for you Curt? Are you that old that you saw Goo play when he was young? Or are you going by just what you read or heard? Because I can write it on here that Pistol was able to do all of those things. It doesn't mean that I saw them. I think that you have really never seen Goo play. I read a comic book about Superman but it doesnt mean that I really believe that there is a man out there that flies. (or do I) The point is that if you never really saw any of the shit that you write about, then stop writing about it. I saw Pistol play and I dont believe that Goo could do half of the things that Pistol did. Guys have tried to do the things that the great Pistol Pete did(Magic, Kidd, Jason Williams) but there is only one Pistol Pete. So put that Goo in yo pipe and smoke it.And no I am not putting Jason Williams in the same category as the others. He just tried to pull off a lot of those fance passes.

    Fan Out

Hi bballfan69: For a person who speaks so courageously as you do, please call Ah Chew Goo himself, & find out for yourself whether I/Ah Chew are hocus pocus or not. Ah Chew's phone no. is 396-8285. Also call Kiyo Hamakawa, Naismith Hall of Fame mainstay, at ph. 935-2504, about your accusation of hocus pocus/concocted history. Also call Ah Chew's son Vince Goo in O'ahu phone book about veracity/authenticity. For a person as bold as you, you certainly will have no difficulty getting to the source of your antipathy. Thank you, & best wishes on your investigation. BTW, John Bunn is laughing in his grave right now at your preposterous assumptions that the NEW emanated out of thin air, vs. your discard of the OLD. Good luck, my thrusty hardboarder. --Curt

    Curt you can call 259-nevamind!

Who wants to call those people? We have lives unlike you. And those people are just as biased/subjective as you are.

You can call 18009378997 (TMOBILE) and add Ah Chew Goo, Alan Tanabe, Frankie Gonzales, poibagz, and yourself (since you are in love with yourself) to your MY FAVES!

You will be the first person on the T-Mobile network who actually puts himself on his own MY FAVES and actually tries to call himself.

Do you notice that you always get your own voice mail?

Once again you did not answer my question you fucking idiot. Did you ever watch him play? And not with himself. Its a simple yes or no question. And what the hell are you talking about new or old. You are a fucking idiot.

Hi bballfan: As Mother Angelica says, EWTN intonation
is confessional. Thank you, & best wishes on your glowing knowledge of Pistol Pete, the greatest-ever passer in the NBA/NCAA, who would care less what drivel you choose to espouse. Aloha, --Curt

Yes, I know that Alan Tanabe gets knocked for being a rightie, not ambidextrous. Cousy was the same way. These hombres were so dominant/unstoppable, why should they try to fix something that ain't broken? Thanks, --Curt

Alan Tanabe had the greatest dad in the world. Alan is blessed in so many ways with great family [mom/siblings]. Especially children who lost their parent(s) in one way or another deserve all the love in the world. Aloha, --Curt

Madonna was only a child when she lost her mom. Flagless Jane Fonda was a teen when her mom committed suicide. It's hard to have such tragedy & yet persevere. Aloha, --Curt
