...how about we start nominating All-League teams first. I think it will be a lot easier to transition into All-State teams once people start filtering names from each league.

    ILH
    OIA
    MIL
    BIIF
    KIF

Designate which division (1 or 2) and also designate who is your league POY.

I hate these lists. Rarely do they accurately reflect the "team" concept that allowed these individual players to distinguish themselves. Usually, someone is left out. All-star teams are a media invention encouraged by the media and over-zealous parents.

I hate these lists. Immediately after the season is over, we take one of the greatest "team" games ever invented and, like hypocrites, single out individuals. If coaches, AD's, and leagues had any sack, they'd stay true to their values and refuse to participate in such awards.

I hate these lists. It pits player against player and creates jealousy amongst teammates. It flies in the face of professed athletic philosophies such as "one team," and creates the illusion that these individual players are something more than simply a part of a whole.

Since I coached in the OIA D2 I will give you who I think the all-stars are for that Div. only.

    Pale- Roosevelt
    DeCorte- Kailua
    Mendonza- Waianae
    Iguchi- Kalani
    Lau- Kailua

I think that we have 2 other guys that will be up for contention in Nakatani and Mitchell. There are also some players from other teams that will have a chance as well, but I am only naming my own.

I will not say POY because I am bias on that one.

    COY - Nathan Davis- Kalani

If there was an All Defensive First Team, I would select Skalman and Tulonghari. They did a great job this year.

Cassidy and Crabb did a good job for Puns.

Kamehameha, collectively as a unit, also did a great job on the defensive end.

to beanboy--I think akina is a good shooter in a system that designed totally for HIM. Kahuku has one play. Akina runs thru the middle and go left or right. If that pass dont get to the corners their offense breaks down. Griffin, is not a team player. Dribbles with his head down and make freshman decisions. He constantly goes one on five all the time. Again, a good shooter but not all state. Mitirade, at best is Honoralbe Mention. The rock of the team is Manuel. (that guard) I would say Richardson from Mililani for PF before Mitirade anyday. I know Marcus Keane is a freshman but I like the way he runs the squad.

    @ Dean Smith

Wow....You have said what so many people want to say but are afraid to hear the back lash. I i had a kid playing in Kahuku's system I would have pulled him off the team the first day cuz I have never seen one player shoot the ball all game in my life. Griffin is a product of his father telling him that its all about himself and only he can get himself to the next level. Mrtirade is a ok player but your right manuel is the backbone. Richardson is a raw talent that is not coached to show his ability. Last thing for me is who cares if the kid is a freshman....keane can play so give him his respect.... Dean Smith your the man and keep the shots coming!!!

Ur right for anybody that averages16 points and 11 rebounds shouldn't even get honorable mention that just sounds like and average player in Hawaii and it doesn't matter who's the back bone or the rock on the team it's who has the best stats and sorry to say this but that's both of us we both had the best stats in the oia so idc what you say CHECK MY STATS MY BADA and compare and contrast and then ur heart will be full of envy and who gives a fuck if the play was made for Akina it's not like he let kahuku down hello kahulu went further than moanalua so Akina for Oia POY Fucking hater and who cares if griffin dribbles with his head down if it wasn't for his heavy ass head mililani wouldn't even got secound round in oia playoffs hater and before you put keenes nuts in your mouth make sure you spell his name right you might piss him off and you know what that means no more nuts for you

I disagree with any mention of Marcus Keane on any all star team. He's got game, but I think a lot is owed to the team that he's on. His team was also fortunate to be on OC16 a few times. It helps his rep a lot when the announcers remind the viewing audience about a million times that Marcus is a freshman. Like I said, he's got game, but so do many other guards throughout the state. His attitude on the court seems to indicate that he's all they hype is affecting his ego.

Not an all star yet. But I do think that there should be an award for him achieving a major accomplishment in that he started as a freshman on a D1 squad. That's a big deal. I belive he's the only one. Not sure if there were any in BIIF, KIF, or MIL. But here on Oahu that's a very big deal and should be recognized.

    @ db

What's not to like about blog about who should be on an all-star list blog?

It brings out the humility in writers, myself included. The only one more full of it is the one titled the 'greatest player'?

    @ Walker

Henry Cassiday started for Punahou as a freshman the year Ostrowski and MacLaughlin took the team to the finals of states but lost to Kaimuki. He was the last one chosen for the squad, but moved up until he took over small forward, next to Steinhoff. Lots of good ones on the squad, too, including Kimo Makaula, Robbie Toma and Dalton Hilliard, Trevor Crabb and Kai Geddes too. The other freshman was Sean McFadden

Im an adult so I will try remember you are a kid. This is an open site and you are really making your parents or whom ever raised you look really bad right now. If my son or daughter came to this site and speak the way you do I would be looking for bail money for kicking their a@s! Stats is not what you look at when picking and all conference team. One should look at the team, system, how the team plays together, and if they can win or be successful without this individual. Campbell would play the same without you but not Manuel. I watch that Campbell and Mililani game last night and you didnt show up. Im not attacking you just stating facts. Obviously our basketball IQ are on two different level. Thats right, you are a STAT ball player not a team player. How do you know the averages of other players in the division? And as far as the balls deal go. maybe you should think before you talk. it seems the only one thats interested in the spelling of Keene's name is you.

Stats would confirm, but not define, a player's contribution.

Stats don't pick up anything of how the players blends with the team. Or better, leads it. Gets the intensity level up.

Same with defense - how can you compare a steal where the ball slips out of the player's hand and gets picked up and run with...verses the defender laying up against the handler, blocking him and then reaching in and picking his pocket...plus laying it in on the other side. Better, when the handler is the other team's best player - deflation, as opposed to inspiration.

The very best is when the game is on the line, and the player bears DOWN and makes something happen. Saves something inside and puts it out there. Changes things, tips it in favor of his team. It's an art that stats don't capture.

Good examples: Micah against Moanalua and Punahou, Cassiday against Kamehameha, Chu against Kam, etc.
