I think this may be fun so I'll list some the greatest GUARDS to play in the BIIF: (in no specific order)

1- Bruce "muggsy" Ferreira HHS all state in two sports
    2- Jason Mandiquit HHS
3- Bradley Estabilio Kohala High School

    5- Tim Batino Honoka'a High
7- Matt Waugh Henry O...coached by the late Hamilton Manely
    8- Lynette Liu Kohala High
    9- Shelley Nakasone Waiakea High

Here are a few more deserving to be on the list.

Dave Kaneshiro (Pure point guard w/ high basketball IQ)

James "Buda" "Nish" Nishimura (Very unselfish PG w/ great defensive skills)

One of the best PG's that never got to play as much as he should have - Royden Silva.

Thanks for the compliment OldG, but I felt I was more of a post up type guard especially at Lokahi!!! LOL. I would drop me off the list and put me as someone also receiving votes. Thanks though!!!!

Who are some of the more recent PG's that were impressive.

Its kind of weird because I had a hard time thinking of recent guards that are true point guards. Pass first to make your teamates better, then look to score when opportunity knocks.

Wow MJ23 you gave me chicken skin!! Thank you very much for the props!!!

But people please take my name off the list or just ignore my name and lets talk about more recent PG's who have been impressive or even the other guards on the list. Its hard being on this forum when you folks are talking about me!! But, once again thank you very much.

Jennifer Kaeo(Led her team to state championships)was also a great PG.

Jay Mandaquit has a state title and a state player of the year, which is something that all the guys on the list don't have.

@Brew. I hear you, we need some recent day BIIF products. But let me just tell everyone a story before we move on and we'll call a night.

Bruce Ferreira was in a retail store I used to work at. This young kid told his mom that he wanted a pair of NIKE Air revolutions. The top of the line shoe selling a 110.00 at the time. Bruce was in the store with his mom and bought a pair of Reebok BB100, 49.00 and the mother of the kid tells her son that Bruce Ferreira does not need a pair of expensive shoes. The looks at me and says: "brah, I'll take a pair of what Bruce is getting but with red stripes". Honestly, I was upset because I missed out on a better commission. But as you can see, the limelight did not go to your head Brew. I've been a fan since.
To the rest of you, I'm not kissing okole, just letting you know that there's great people who are good athletes.
    I'm done!

@brew Are you kidding me james nishimura he played only 1 year of high school ball. He could barely make a 2.0 gpa at hilo high next thing you know he is on the 1st team ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM with a 3.8gpa@honokaa high. He played more games at hilo armory w/ johnny reebok during the week between 12-2 then he ever played during BIIF season. Principal of honokaa actually had to tell him that he needed to be SEEN at school and not at hilo armory or Ash housing.

96720 if you knew "nish" you would know that he is a really good PG and his defensive skilss are great. All I know he would not let anyone score 30 on him, let alone 40. NOBODY!!!!!! And I'm talking big island basketball!!! You, Willy, and Crazy Gordon got next!!!!!!

Kohala's Brandon Bautista. I can't think of any other player who makes so much difference to his team. Can you imagine Kohala without Bautista?

He sparks their press. Offensively he is unselfish and is a great assist maker, but will score when necessary.

Perhaps his greatest legacy is his attitude. I wish my children will use him as a role model.

@manolo7777 it sounds like Brandon is a very good kid, which is awesome. Many people speak highly of not only his basketball ability, but also his great attitude and demeanor. Nowadays its really hard to find a young man who can play the game the way it should be played with the humbleness of Brandon. I think I got to see him play a couple of times, but I wish I would get a chance to watch him during his senior season because it sounds like he is doing a great job leading his team. Good job Brandon and Good luck the rest of the way.

Bautista came near a quadruple double against Kealakehe last week...that's unheard of, especially in high school.

Quadruple double? Must be scoring, assists, rebounding, and steals? What other stats are there--blocked shots? Anything else? Never heard of anyne getting a quad double--at any level. Or even getting close. If anyone can, it'll be Bautista. Wish I could see a tape of that game. Wonder if Rosie taped it.

YEP TO THAT! I always said Bautista is the "BEST POINT GUARD" in the BIIF. Has been since his junior year. And yes you are right brew it is very hard and very rare to find an athlete with so much versatile athleticism on the basketball court and with so much respect to others on/off the court and always had grade A attitude.

Best of luck on the west side to you and your team Bautista keep it up "Job Well Done".

    @ oldG:
They deserve to be on it too.. Cause we tend to look at only offense.. Those 2 guys u mentioned played hella defense also.

I'll tell you one of the most underrated guards of the BIIF of all time is Bobby Medeiros from Hilo High. He went on to star for the Bows baseball team. Very athletic, smart and crafty in all three sports that he lettered in. If I'm not mistaken, Bob Wagner wanted him on his football team too.

Man i remember i was still in high school and played against Jason Kauhi in mens league and i thought he was way better than Brandon Kauhi...Not saying Brandon Kauhi wasn't good just that his brother was way more well rounded...He maybe wasn't as good of a three point shooter, he was a good 3 point shooter though, but he was much better at pull up mid range jumpers.

    Sorry for going off topic..lol..reminiscing...
