That ref that looks like Tony Orlando suck! He looks like a big kid and can't even stand with a strong demeanor. Always looking around in the crowd and giggling like a school girl. I'm not saying all this because my team lost...we actually won that game. He made many bad calls both ways!

JUST TALKED TO MY COACHING BUDDIES ON OAHU. I WAS RIGHT. THE WORST REF IN HAWAII IS MATT HO. HE IS INCONSISTENT. HE DOESN'T SEE THE GAME WELL. HE LETS COACHES RIDE HIM INTO CALLS.

Officiating is a tough job. Evaluating an official can be very subjective. Look at all of the post regarding the officials on the Big Island. How many of those posts are personal. In the late 1990’s I used to take teams up to Hilo for high school basketball tournaments. As a coach I felt that we were always getting the short end of the deal from the officials. Now that I look back maybe it was my inexperience as a coach that made me feel that we were getting worked by the officials. Now days I feel that if my teams are prepared for the game then we will dictate the outcome of the game no matter who the officials are. Not only must we prepare for our opponents we must also prepare for the game officials as well.

What constitutes a strong/weak official? I think that this would be a better topic to discuss then the topic of the current post.

I believe that a strong official is someone that is professional, in condition, knows the game, has the ability to manage, and is spontaneous and can adapt to the situation.

I believe that a weak official is someone that is not in shape, PR personality, sloppy in appearance, standoffish, lacks communication skills, thin skinned, and listens to coaches and fans.

Coaches are human and from time to time will make poor calls due to a lack of a good angle on the play or poor positioning. In a competitive matchup a strong official will raise his/her level of officiating. A weak official will call a high school game the same way as he/she would a park league game.

Matt Ho maybe a weak high school officials but is he also a weak park league official? It is all relative.

I agree, they're are some bad refs out there, and i wish there is a number we can call to complain. how can refs let games go out of control? Lately it seems like there is more "wild" aggressiveness on the court, and bitchy parents. so be like the NBA, have a ref number on your shirt, and a complaint hotline. maybe games will be officiated seriously if your part time job is on the line.

The worst has to be Matt Ho, hands down. Coming in a close second is the ref that's also an assistant with the HBA Boys Varisty. This past weekend they both worked a 12&under game for NJB and had to stop and have a conference every 2 minutes! It was ridiculous. It got so bad, people in the stands started to complain so the refs took it personally and called out someone's grandpa! I think they actually thought we were there to see them ref....what a joke.

The ILH has some of the best teams in the state. So, who should officiate this league?

Hatabata, are you who I think you are? If so, don't explain your calls to other fans on forums like this. It makes you sound like you're making excuses. Stick to other blogs about players and teams, stay away from the blogs that criticize officials, and keep your identity a secret. Can't you see that everyone is tying you to the whipping pole so they can flog your okole? Don't let anyone hurt your feelings. If you can't take the criticism then either quit or try to improve your game.
