To you BI bloggers who commented about a match up between Kohala's Brandon Bautista and St Joe's Jacob Andrade, now's your chance to see it happen this Saturday night.
I believe there will be NO ZONE defense (I'm making a plea to the director) in this game.

Here' another match up worth watching.
Keaau's Richard Handy vs. Thomas Naehu

    Blog it!

Zone defense should be outlawed in All-Star games. Matter of fact, I think it is.

2 good players have nothing against either one but I gotta go with Brandon Bautista always enjoyed watching this kid play from P&R time until present.

2 solid players but my pick of course is my all-time favorite Richie Handy.

There will be no Zone!!!! And I have recommeneded to the east side squads to try and get off a shot in 10-15 seconds and run the break as much as possible. Set offenses will be taboo. Match-ups will be awesome.

Play Zone = You will be shot!

Remember Jim Forkum in the mid-90's (head coach for Hilo Vulcan's basketball team)...he believed in a
    "7 second" offense...shoot, shoot, shoot...and then, shoot some-more within 7 seconds!

Run and Gun, Grip it and Rip-it, Lock-n-Load, blazin steaks...oooops' I mean Blazin trails!!!!!!

    @ Brew,

Make sure you give da Zebra's a briefing on those "outrageous traveling calls" ...fans don't come to see a "bi-polar" game (20-40 second blowing of the whistles)
Let them play...unless its mind-blowing "obvious" ...3 step layups, dribble-stop-dribble, etc...quick first steps, spins and explosions are valid in this ALL-STAR EVENT!!!!

I think the boys should line up and call out who they wanna guard! Instead of the coaches making suggestions. LOL

Brew, what do you think about the possible match up between Carvalho and one the exchange students from HPA?

    Dream Coaches:
    Al Manlingus East

    Galo Fernandez West

Two coaches who I would love to see at these games:
Frank Gibson and Hamilton Manely...May they rest in Peace.

@Brew, the Sasha one is the one that plays guard...

Man the East West all-star game should be awesome...The West is really stacked but the East is a little deeper...and i'd give B-Ball IQ to the East as well, slightly...should be awesome and i guarantee it'll be in the 100's...

The rising stars game could be a blowout...the East is just too stacked..A lot of them could actually be on the East all star team...

You know what's funny, i didn't even realize Kawaha was a sophomore until i seen him on the rising stars team...lol...man that kid has some serious up side....didn't realize he was that young, thought he was a senior this whole time...

@HF......I think I can make that happen during half time tomorrow night. We'll have them play within the KEY for safety purposes....pun intended.

    @ OldG

Thanks for that highlight for Frank and Ham! Two great guys who gave their lives for kids and Frank was one of my mentors when I had the priviledge to coach with him at Waiakea. The guys coaching the all-star games are not bad as well following the format of "For the kids" so you can't go wrong in this type of event.

The players who are able to attend (some play volleyball and baseball) will have the honor of playing a game that may become a cornerstone to the BIIF post season. These are the current and future leaders of the basketball community and from what I saw at practice on Tusday night, they all were friendly and were having a great time. Everyone should see the games, boys and girls.

To BGC, I apologize for not being able to make this because I will be on Kauai but I aplaud the BGC, Kalani Silva, Bruce Ferreira and staff. I aplaud all the player participants and their coaches who are giving up their personal time and some coming all the way from Kona to support this fun event. Thanks goes out to the Refs (yes, they are people too) for their efforts and the score keepers, ticket booth personnel and everyone doing their respective jobs well so the fans can enjoy the evenings. I cannot aplaud the Warrior program as an entity because...well...they have nothing to do with this game!!!

Enjoy everyone because these games may well be the start of something that brings the community together rather than bleeding Blue, Red, Green, Black or any other school colors. I'd rather hear stuff like "Apele lobs to Faiman for a dunk" or Libao dishes to Shintani for three" and other great combinations the BIIF players can do.

    Have Fun!
