@manolo7777, How Do You Have Apele Over Ishibashi And Cazimero? Or Kawaha For That Matter? But Then You Have Leong Over Carvalho? Doesn't Really Make Sense IMHO.

I was just thinking it UnContolable.....Leong? Kawaha? Holani, Pacheco? opinions that make you go hmmmmmmmm

...but hey, thats what they are...opinions right?

I guess I tend to lean toward role players. Most of my preferences are for players who I feel know what is expected of them and play within the confines of the coach's offense and defense.

Those four players you mention, Luna86, I feel really play within their teams' systems. Leong is playing out of position. I think he is really a perimeter player but has accepted his role as an inside player. Kawaha has been a staple for Hilo this entire season. Holani is one of the best rebounders on the Island. He is one of the few players who can grab a rebound that goes a several feet away from him. Pacheco is new to the Waiakea system, but has adapted very well. Anyway, those are my reasons.

We all base our preferences on different criteria, and that helps make this forum interesting.

Huh??? You think Leong is a perimeter player? I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the same player as you...I might have the names mixed up but the one I'm thinking of is definitely a post player..He's what I call "Mattos Light"...lol..He's basically Mattos without the height or outside shot...

I agree with you on Holani and Pacheco being honorable mention though...

    just a thought....like "UnControlable" mentioned by matching up players...you have Leong over Carvalho I maybe a bit off but from what stats say...averages;

    Leong 4-6 points / 4-5 rebounds
    Carvalho 10-12 points / 12-14 rebounds

I think Sr. Leong is more of a post player but he has a soft outside stroke / shot. Unfortunately, I think the transfers hurt his possible production, not to mention playing time. So I think he is alot better then his stats says. And of course...he's is a champion!

I think Jr. Carvalho was steady game in and game out and did alot of the intangibles that didn't have stats for (defense, extra pass and always looked to his coach for the proceeding plays).
I also think that Cabatu was a big contributor to the team when not in foul trouble, quite a bit more then Leong.

I would also somehow go with Janado over Kawaha (who I think in due time, he will be there!)... basically for the composure / control and shot selection discipline.

I also think (who nobody mentions)...
Berinobis (Hilo) - was a intriguing /important part of that Hilo (defensively and offensively) down the stretch run...I think he should be considered in the mix as well.

But your selections are not far fetched....After all, Kamehameha didn't make the playoffs so....I could possibly swing your way as well.
It really depends on the voters / coaches and I agree, We all base our preferences on different criteria, and that helps make this forum interesting.

..@Luna86... you are so on it.. totally forgot about those players you mentioned (brooks, cabatu, and berinobis)... and i gotta agree with you about Carvalho, even if not making the playoffs, having an edge in the voting over Leong,

..@manolo777.. nice list with one exception--apele definitly not ready to claim 1st team honors...if there is anybody from that Kam team to claim any honors it's carvalho and because they didn't make the playoffs i had to bump him down to 2nd team, but apele maybe next year--infact i'd pick cazamaro, ishibashi, janado, and maybe even kawaha over apele as PG for this year..

    ..just a thought...

...if i was a player, the fact my name even being mentioned in this thread is Positive... no put downs, just perceptions of skill level... hope nobody takes our perceptions personal.. if my son's name was on here i'd be anxious to know what others think of him so i can share those perceptions with him.. also, it's those perceptions that would keep him humble and make him work harder.. besides as parents--we kindof bias so this blog is great.. it's all good.. thanks folks...

@Luna8. I understand everyone's surprise at me calling Leong a perimeter player. Next to Shintani, I think Leong is Hilo's best outside shooter. I wish he could get more touches in an area where he can score. Nevertheless, I like his attitude and how he accepts he role on the team.

    @ M-7777,

Yes, you maybe correct on Leong's shooting...he is a good shooter for a "Charles Barkley" like body! I definitely feel that if he got more touches he would have been much more valuable in every facet of the game!

Like I mentioned in my previous posts...I think we all can agree that unfortunately he was directly impacted by the "transfers" from Hilo.
I think he's alot better then what we saw this year...just not getting the "rock" enough!

Hilo had a lot of talent which I think is the reason why many of their minutes were limited and stats were spread out. I feel if they were only seven or eight deep they would be a better team because they would have had much more opportunity to play and practice together. I credit the coaches for a job well done. I'm sure there were players that was not very happy with the playing time, but they stuck together and ultimately won the BIIFs, which is every teams goal.
Good Luck to our BIIF teams. We are very proud of all of you and we hope you all do well in states. Bust that A$$!!!!!

Same with Scotty boy (hilo), i think he was a tad bit better "last year" as far as performance and stats...and only because of the talent that Hilo had at there disposal (like brew mentioned)...but all-in-all, it helped them to learn to "WIN AS A TEAM" and they did!!!

Luna, without the transfers, Leong mght have been the center. If Allen and Mattos (or Morante) were the transfers, then Leong could have played his natural position and have more touches and scoring. He deserves much credit for accepting his role whatever it had to be.

    M-7777,

Exactly what I said in an earlier post...if "no transfers"...Leong would have got more touches~thus, more opportunities and "everything else" that comes with "playing time!" But because of it...he didn't do as well as we all know he could have. Yes, he knew his role and did it well and I do give him tremendous credit for it (he's one of the reasons why they won the championship ~ role player! ...but you cant use lack of playing time and / or what he could've /would've / should've done without the transfers to rank him over someone that got more playing time (which came with better stats). It's unfortunate but thats the way it is.
Leong is a very good player...no doubt!
