Socrates -- well, boys volleyball is coming up and with a lot of basketball players moving over to that sport ... or you could tell us some stories about your college days playing for Steve Tucker. I remember him well, he spit all over anyone that he talked to -- he had so much enthusiasm .. and saliva (lol). Or you can tell us about your days playing 8-foot hoops. Actually, let's enjoy the next week with the BIIF playoffs and then the state tournaments to see how far the Big Island teams go. Then, we'll worry about what to blog about.

...sounds good to me.. i think i'm rooting for Hilo High and i don't know why.. maybe cause i feel sorry for them or something.. especially for allan and shintani--i don't know them personally but from watching them play i think they are nice boys who made the switch to Hilo hoping for the best, and i kind-of feel bad for coach keamo--the guy looks super humble and i know he must be stressed cause if they dont make it to states the public will blame him..

..Hilo actually has a better schedule cause they can avoid kealakehe and keaau.. we'll see..

Socrates, actually Hilo is playing well and could be the most dangerous team in the BIIF playoffs. But if the Vikings beat Kona like they should, the Honokaa-Hilo game could be fun -- with some wild action. Both teams have some good athletes and Honokaa doesn't seem to have the discipline to run its "Flex" offense as well as past Cheyenne Meyer-coached teams. So it could be a high scoring game, in the high 70s or low 80s. On the other side, the Waiakea vs. Kealakehe-Keaau game could be a toss-up. Waiakea is playing well as a team, but Keaau has beaten Waiakea twice already. But my gut tells me Kealakehe is going to beat Keaau and a Kealakehe-Waiakea game could be fun. If Hilo and Waiakea meet in the finals on Saturday, we might have the biggest crowd of the year, around 2,700 ot 2,800 at Hilo Civic. BIIF hoops -- you've got to love it.

Keaau vs. Kealakehe- I got Keaau by 5...After watching Kealakehe vs Honoka'a i think Keaau can slow the game down on defense, push the ball on offense and keep the turnovers low while forcing turnovers from Kealakehe...Kea'au needs to make sure someone is always aware of Naehu though...He can drain 3's...Keaau also needs to control the boards...Kealakehe loves to crash the boards..Kealakehe's big men have a bad habit of not getting back on d..that also leads to a lot of fast breaks for the other team...

    Hilo vs. Kona...Hilo by 25....

    2nd round...

Waiakea vs. Keaau or Kealakehe....If it's Kealakehe i got Waiakea by 8...If it's Kea'au i can't call it...Kea'au beat them twice but once was without Mattos...Waiakea seems to be playing much better than the beginning of the year...

Honoka'a vs. Hilo....Hilo beat them pretty easily in the pre-season and Hilo has improved a lot...I got Hilo by 10...

    KEAAU VS. KEALAKEHE,

I think Kealakehe got this one. Lost two games back to back(Kohala and Honokaa). They have alot of talent on the team. I think Kealakehe is the best team on the island. Very unselfish and disciplined. Any one of their starters(Naehu,Utrera,Desagun,Vea,Ontiveros) can put up big numbers on any given night. On the other hand. They are playing against Keaau who held the number one spot on the East side for awhile. Ishibashi, Handy, Cazimero are hard to stop. If Haku can control the tempo of the game and Richard can stop Naehu then Keaau can pull it off.

    KONA VS HILO,

Hilo should win this game easily. You dont have to say much about this game. Hilo will do what they do best, PRESS. Kona who has been playing with 5-6 players during the season will have a very hard time getting the ball up the court.

Just my predictions. You never know what could happen. It all depends on which team wants it more and who shows up to play. Good luck to all teams.

Wow it would be a blast to see if Waiakea & Hilo meet for the 3rd time on saturday for the D1 BIIF Championship. I think it will be a pack house with probably like 16 policemans downstairs 2 at every entrance and 8 upstairs 2 at every entrance...Nah only kidding but might happen.

I think if they do meet for the 3rd time and for the BIIF Championship game I think it will be a much more relaxed, competitive game played by both teams because both teams will automatically have the berths to states already and that will reduce much more of that pressure off of them.

Good Luck To All D1 & D2 Teams In The Play-Off's.

@ BBoi~ I was just making light of it.
The ref will be earning their stripes this week for sure.
Don't know who they've got repping the West side though.
I hope there's no sight of Barry, Gabe, Sonny and Wes.... There's no need for grandstanding by the refs at these games.

First half game was close, kealakehe ran, gave a little trouble with the press broke it open in the 3rd quarter. Ishibashi had lots of turnovers. Once Thomas warmed up he started hitting those outside shots. Keauu left Thomas open.
Keauu should have forced kealakehe into a half court game. Force kealakehe to run there flex nd eliminate there fast breaks Kealakehe's flex is not much of a weapon.

Wow great win for Kealakehe.Looks like Kea'au did the exact opposite of what i thought they'd do.Right before the game i was talking to a buddy of mine and realized that Kea'au has a hard time playing against teams that run a lot.ie, Hilo.I should have known they would struggle against Kealakehe since they are basically Hilo but have a really good shooter.

Man I really thought that Kea'au would be able to slow them down into a half court game...I was torn on this game on who i wanted to win because i really like Handy and Naehu...

Maybe the west is better than i gave them credit for.

@Tamba, i am eating a big healthy bowl of crow right now...lol..Congratulations on the win...

Let's not forget that Kealakehe already beat Hilo and Waiakea this year. Their lone loss to an East side foe was St Joe, a team that was playing above and beyond many teams in the preseason due to thier summer commitment.
