How about giving credit to the top defensive players in the BIIF. This is much harder, but anyway, here's my choices:

    D1:
    G: Kagawa, Kam
    G: Spikes, Hilo
    F: Handy, Keaau
    F: Ishibashi, Keaau
    C: Morante, Waiakea

    D2:
    G: Bautista
    G: ???
    F: Fisher, Pahoa
    F: ???
    C: Ekau, Pahoa

Sorry, I haven't seen enough West games to include them. But I'm sure others will join in and improve my list.

Good Picks, but I might place Carvalho from Kamehameha in there somewhere. Just my opinion!!!

...wow.. M777 you too good.. mmm, you'd really have to watch plenty games to get this one.. but for what it's worth.. Defensive POY i'd go with EKAU.. anybody know how much block shots he got-- i saw 5 in just one game.. the guy is a monster defender.. Then i'd go with Wong; and Apele; and Kawaha..

    ...thoughts.

Agreed with most picks....I only have a full "waiakea front court for DI" (Mattos instead of Ishibashi)...just from what I saw, Mattos was more polished on defense then Haku (although he was good), Mattos was betta'. Jus' my opinion bro!

As far as DII ...I would put Ekau at a Forward spot and fill the Center with the tallest playa in the league (Fairman)...his height and long reach alone is shot altering.

other than that...don't know much on the west side...

Agreed my Greek philosopher friend (Socrates) -

I would definately place Ekau as the D-POY "handsdown"...I seen 4-5 block shots in one game as well...2x!

oh yeah, Lanaki Apele was "NAILS" on defense as well!!!! No doubt.

Great inputs! Hope to hear from West Hawaii.

Other than Ekau whose blocks were amazing, many D2 schools play zone, and it's hard to determine if the player was good individually or the team defense was good. Any ideas on how to evaluate players who play zone? Rebounds? Steals?

    This would be my picks:

    D1:
    F - Mattos (waiakea)

    ? - ? " " " " "

    D2:
    C - Ekau (pahoa)
    G - Bautista (kohala)
    F - Ohara-Saft (st.joseph)
? - ? I have selections but undecided on who
    ? - ? " " " " " "

@Shaka6, As much as i like Ohara-Saft, defense is definitely not his strong point...Both Devyn Monberg and Derek Kravitsky are St. Joe's best perimeter on-ball defenders..

SUPRISING I DON'T SEE MATT LIBAO ON THE ALL DEFENSE TEAM. HE PRETTY MUCH SHUT DOWN MOST OPPONENTS THIS SEASON. BESIDES RUNNING THE OFFENSE, HIS SLASH AND DRIVE ,PLUS UNSELFISH WITH THE ROCK. HE MADE SOME OUTSTANDING ASSIST. MAYBE HAD AN OFF GAME AGAINST HILO FOR THE BIIF CHAMP-GAME BUT THE TWO PREVIOUS GAMES AGAINST HILO HE AWESOME. WITHOUT HIM THEY WOULD'VE LOOSE GARANS. JUST MY OPINION.
