There is 2 type of people. People who know the game and people who think they know the game. All I have to say Waiakea 37-Keaau 27, no upset special for you or anyone else. The only special is Hawaiian Airlines $39.00 from Waiakea to Oahu for the State tournament.

Thank you and have a bru-tiful day!!!!!

It was a very exciting game between Waiakea and Keaau.. Waiakea stayed out of foul trouble and the cleaned out on the boards.. Imai had 14 boards and Kanisha had 10 boards. Keaau missed a lot of outside shots...

Kona and Waiakea will be a battle but from what I hear.. Imai wont be playing tonight due to what happen after the game..

So Kona will have a very big advantage heading into tonights game..

Good luck Kam, HPA, Kona and Waiakea..

Kona put on a hurting aganist Waiakea. It was a game until Kanisha got in foul trouble and Kona just ran with it.

The problem that I have is with Kona's coaches.. They run up the score, they pressed until the buzzer rang, and they kept in there starter in until the game ended... Where is the respect factor? Are they not ashamed of what they did? They did win by 40+ points.. Carma a b!tch..

I have said it before. They are not a classy program. They put names on the back of their jersey's which in my opinion creates the perception that the individual is greater than the whole. They are unethical which is demonstrated by the fact that they let a kid live with them to win more games. They beat teams that are outmatched with prehistoric offenses. They take talented girls but do not develop them the way other programs do and send them to DIV II schools instead of DIV I schools.

They can win the next 10 titles but they still are not classy. You can say things about Punahou and Iolani and recruiting and what not. But their kids play with class and respect. I have never seen Coach Taylor, Coach Takara, and now Coach Zeug run up the scores against over-matched teams.

This reason mentioned above is the reason why their role players do not improve....

Kona can only win when their team is stacked. Look at last year, they had enough talent to win the BIIF, and couldn't get it done.

Yah they might have won 2 titles (one shouldn't count), but look at the other years. They either win or stink in the states.

They win cuz they have ridiculous talent, not cuz of coaching. They they run up the score on teams that are inferior, yah that is impressive....

The BIIFs playoffs were almost as predicted. We all new Konas well rounded team was gonna take all.

Unfortunately, the Hilo team (with all of there amazing talent) fell so short of everything. The drama that happened more on their bench was more interesting to watch then the actual five girls on the court throughout the season. Rumor has it that the team just refuse to play for their newly appointed coaching staff and it showed when girls wouldn't even come off the bench to the huddle during time outs. At the end of their playoff game most of the team members strutted around the gym in these bright shirts that stated you dumb with a middle finger flip picture printed on the shirts. What was that? But I think it had all to do with the coaching staff and the off the rocker decision that their A.D. did. Sad because if the girls were trained more and disciplined they would have gave Kona a run for their money, ans probably could have won Waiakea and Kea'au. But no one cared this season. Hilo gotta do something.

Waiakea had a great show with Kea'au. Although it didn't look like Kea'aus game that night, they played really off. The girls couldn't get their shots in and they didn't drive in as much. Waiakea played a strong game and will do well in states. However if you were at the game at HPA the entire Drama that occured between a couple Waiakea suited up girls and a few other girls outside of HPA gym (full out tro blow action) questiones if Waiakea has the professionalism as a team and can represent the Big Isle.

Kea'au finished classy. They were a bunch of non-hyped up by the media girls who played their game and gave every other D1 team a run for their money. Have you ever watched this team CAREFULLY. These girls are very cool and collective. They play well together and it reflects off their bench. Head coach Mark Kawaha is just as cool and collective. No Yelling and screaming from him and I think ALL coaches should learn from him and Bobbie Awa who has the same attitude on the sideline.

It looks like each school will be losing Key senior players for next season so it should be just and as interesting on who comes up on top in 2010.

eastsidehoopaholic-you got to be from Keaau! Those girls are not classy at all and you know it! They have filthy mouths and bad attitudes both on and off the court! Just because they lost and walked out of the gym wondering what just hit them don't be saying that there classy, everyone knows how they really are, were not fooled!

I agree, at the Keaau/Konawaena game, I could hear the Keaau girls saying things to the Kona team that wasn't nice. I could not believe that the ref's let it go. Big Isle ref's are the worst. On the other hand, Konawaena's cheering section is out of control, those JV KIDS and 2 adult men are ridiculously embarrassing.

That may be true, but that's not as embarrassing as letting a kid live with their coach.

FYI wachutalkinbout I am not affiliated with any particular school I enjoy the game and tried to catch many of Waiakea, Hilo and Kea'au games. In fact I was sitting in the stands watching the Kona and Kea'au game along with 1/2 of the Hilo girls team that evening at kea'au and frankly if you are referring to any one or more persons from the stands that would be talking smack then be it there is no control over fans even if they are stupid but don't penalize the team on the floor. Both teams played well and clean and if I'm wrong it would be interesting to know what you heard that we didn't...or is this just a hate on Kea'au? But please correct me with specifics that you and not anyone else had heard. Swearing happens at every game and its been happening for years. Sometimes they are caught sometimes they don't.

As for Hilo's talent comment. Yes if you follow basketball all year round alot of these girls play club and open leagues. I see what they can do and you would too. Its not unrealistic to think that this team had a real chance to go states. They literally have 10 starting fives on the bench. And if Vicky was not hurt from last years BIIF tourney she would have just solitified their chances. Common we all should know this. and please don't conclude that I am now from Hilo.

Actually, at public school venues and events, the gym director, athletic director, or administration has the right to remove someone from the gym who they deem is acting in an inappropriate fashion.

Two years ago, a mother from the boys aiea team was mocking, cussing, and taunting a referee. The athletic director had the police remove this lady from the arena at halftime, she was given her refund, and escorted out of the gymnasium.

So, the crowd can be controlled. It comes down to the discretion of the people hosting the event.

Hilo has 10 starting 5's on their bench? Which team would these girls start for? Waialua? Kau? Who? When was the last time Hilo made it to states?

While Vicky is a good player, she hasn't been able to lead them to states even when she was healthy.

Until they actually accomplish something, everyone can say that this team and that team is talented.

It must be proved on the court, and Hilo has not done that in a while.

Hilo ain't that good. They got hammered this year by Kona. Two years ago they got smashed by 30 or 40 by Punahou without the twins...

    You have very low expectations.....

I agree the vikings are not that great. As for Vicky she has not even come close to what was expected of her. She was suppose to be in the same class as the lynette liu, jasmine williams, jenny kaeo, kahea Schukert, kaui wakita, and last but not least Keisha kanekoa.I just hope she has a good off season workout plan because USC will not be easy. I really taught Vicky would outshine all of the girls i mentioned above just by seeing her in age group play 5 years ago but her talent level has stayed the same since then. She reminds me of a guy back in the early 80's named Carl Ota who was the best 11-12 13-14 P&R player who didnt even make hilo high basketball varsity team.

steve-o you better take a look at your history books before calling the BIIF "doodoo". And I believe Kona plays in the BIIF and they are ranked #2 in the state above everyone in the ILH and OIA, except of course Punahou. When Kona plays in the states you should jump in your car and go check them out, it may change your opinion about them and the BIIF.

Well if you look at history, the BIIF, MIL, OIA, and KIF are what steve-o said compared to the ILH.

Yes the OIA and BIIF have won a few, but the ILH have won so much more.....

So while his statement is rude, it really isn't far off....

No one said the ILH wasn't the cream of the crop!!! What I said was that the BIIF isn't doodoo!!!

They have competed for many state titles and been in the top 4 many, many years. What you folks are saying that the OIA, BIIF, MIL, and KIF shouldn't even be mentioned with the ILH. If the ILH is so much more superior then the BIIF, OIA, MIL, and the KIF, they should be able to win the title every year, in every sport. But you folks know that doesn't happen. And for all the years the OIA, BIIF, MIL, and KIF won, then the ILH should be considered a little lower then doodoo!!!!

I understand what you are saying brew, but 26/32 in girls basketball is very superior in my eyes. Winning over 80% of the time is absurd in my opinion.

HoopFanatic, once again I did say that the ILH is the cream of the crop. But I was referring to the statement that the BIIF was "doodoo". If you believe that the league is doodoo, then you should never lose!!!

In most states there are superior leagues(ILH) and other leagues that are not as good. But if we only took teams from the ILH, then it wouldn't be considered a state tournament. And if we didn't allow the other leagues too enter into the state tournament, then the six times that the ILH didn't win wouldn't have happened. And you would be crowning a state champion that was not the best team in the state.

Hello, I was commenting to this statement that you made, "If the ILH is so much more superior then the BIIF, OIA, MIL, and the KIF, they should be able to win the title every year, in every sport."

I was only talking about girls basketball here. And, I never said that all the leagues should not be represented. But, I was just stating that in my opinion, winning 26/32 girls state titles is pretty dominant and superior in my opinion.

HoopFanatic, I agree with you about the ILH being dominant compared to the other leagues, but I was making my statement because someone said that the BIIF is doodoo!!!

Here is a little history that I believe will confirm that the BIIF belongs and they are not doodoo!!!

    1985 Waiakea - state champs
    1986 Waiakea - state champs
    1988 Waiakea - 2nd place
    1990 Hilo - 3rd place
    1992 Honokaa - 3rd place
    1997 Honokaa - 2nd place
    1998 Waiakea - 3rd place
    1999 Waiakea - 4th place
    2004 Kona - state champs
    2005 Kona - 2nd place
    Honokaa- 3rd place
    2006 Honokaa- 3rd place
    Kona - 4th place
    2007 Kona - state champs
    Honokaa - 3rd place
    2008 Waiakea - 4th place

So, although the ILH dominates state championships, I feel the BIIF is one of the major players in the state as far as girls basketball goes.

If I have a couple of these dates and places wrong I apologize.

Well that is your opinion. Can you list how many times the ILH took second and when the ILH had their 3rd berth, how many times the ILH actually had 3 teams in the semis.

That list would be far more impressive than the list above.

And the list you provided while accurate, is a little misleading. Here is why.

Take last year for example. Punahou played Iolani in the finals. The ILH only had 2 representatives. Who else would be the other two teams? The ILH cannot have the other two semi spots, so it either has to be a MIL, OIA, or BIIF team. So, since Waiakea took 4th place, the other spot was either a MIL or OIA team. That is not impressive.

They are often players because of the restriction of the HHSAA with regards to the ILH and the formula used to seed teams and invite teams from various leagues.

You list 14 years above. But of those 14 years, the BIIF only won 4. Who won the others?

And if you wanted to make a list of State Champs, 2nd place teams, 3rd place teams, and 4th place teams, the ILH's list would dwarf your list above.
