Just having graduated from Mid-Pac...Who do they have left on the team? Last time I checked we were headed downhill after Marcus, Sammy, and Cameron left. Anyone come to replace them?

They got two new big boys. The kid Patrick Matthews from HBA and Drew Swanson whom im sure you know. My my opinion is other than Matthews they dont have much. The guard play seems weak and it looks like they don't have a bench to support the starters. They have alot of height this year but i dont think that will help them much.

i heard that mid pac got a new forward this year, logan murakami. he comes off the bench but he provides the owls with a much needed boost when the owls starting forwards get tired. he is very physical, hustles for every loose ball and has a sweet hook shot

Anyone have a new top ten after this week of games?

    Both boys and girls.

I wasn't able to watch the games this weekend in Hilo, but I know there were a few upsets. I know that Iolani lost a few games and Hilo also lost, but I'm sure Iolani will be there at the end. They are to talented and they were missing some key players.

I still have Iolani ranked #1 for the boys and Kona #1 for the girls.

Does anyone know if the Punahou girls played in any tournaments this weekend? And how did they do.

We havn't seen Honokaa play yet, but I'm pretty sure they will be a very good team. They have size, speed, and they have some good shooters. And they have a new coach, who is really good with x's and o's, and the kids should play intense disciplined defense.!!!

    1. Punahou
    2. Kamehameha
    3. Iolani (After a full squad and game, most likely returning to the top spot)

Campbell, Leilehua, Mililani, Kalaheo look to early on be heading towards a traffic jam for slots 3,4 & 5 come States.

An objective Top 10 based on performance of games played, not future speculation, or team affilation.

    1. Kamehameha-Not the same team as a year ago, but proved that their coaching staff is head and shoulders above of others with the comeback win over the Puns.

    2. Punahou-At times last week they looked like the team that could run through the ILH. But when the bigs run into good post defense they come back to the pack.

    3. Iolani- Lots of talk about their depth this season. Their depth got them back to Oahu
with a 1-2 record. No Iolani team in the past decade has ever lost two of three games to
    Hawaii teams.

    4. Roosevelt-Why not, four wins over Div 1 teams. Solid post play and great team speed. Granted the Div 1 teams were average ones, still a great week and deserving of this spot.

    5. St Joes- I told you guys about them a month ago, they handled Keeau, a team that
beat Iolani by 10 two nights earlier. They'll be on Oahu for Moanalua's tournament later in
the month for a closer look.

    6. Kahuku- Since they never play pre-season games we have to go on what we rememember from last season. Should be a good team.

    7. Moanalua- Had a chance to make some waves against Punahou, they played ok, but not good enougth to be top 5 yet. They're solid and will work they're way up eventually.

    8. Mid Pac-Similar to Roosevelt. Nice week against average teams. A McKinley tournament championship against Punahou II does not help you're RPI. But they will be in the upper half of the ILH this year.

    9. Farrington- Tough team to play with it's hard nosed players and style of play. Gave Kamehameha fits and will do the same to teams in the East.

    10. Keeau-Nice showing this week and signature win over Iolani. The BIF is ballanced and will be an exciting league to follow.

Any more takers on Kaimuki? Don't think so. How about St Louis? They went to the wire against AOP!! What about Milliani? They blow. Then there's Kalaheo, two OT's to beat Campbell (which lost to HBA!!!) and then 33 points againt Roosevelt. Just because they're Kalaheo, you don't have to put them in the top 10.

Apologies Cuz. I had an old text document that I pasted before their game (ie.. typed a few days ago)

Who else do you think will be competing for the 3,4 & 5th places in the O.I.A. come February championships?

    @Backpick

"Then there's Kalaheo, two OT's to beat Campbell (which lost to HBA!!!) and then 33 points againt Roosevelt. Just because they're Kalaheo, you don't have to put them in the top 10."

By your own logic, Roosevelt needs to be a bit lower than #4 don't you think?

I mean, the #4 team in the state playing an "average" Kalaheo team that needed 2 OT's to beat Campbell, who lost to HBA, then going to OT?

".. and then 33 points against Roosevelt"
"..Solid post play and great team speed."

The average Kalaheo team was tied with them after 4 quarters. At 31. I don't get it. Either Kalaheo is better than "not being top 10", or Roosevelt is sliding down your list no?

If Farrington lost to the #1 Kamehameha team by 12. I don't understand an OT loss to the #4 team constituting a "Just because they're Kalaheo, you don't have to put them in the top 10."

But I am greatly prejudiced and clearly not as objective as yourself. So please take my swayed comments with a grain of salt.

Yes, you're greatly pregudiced and you need to take others comments with a grain of salt. I've seen both Farrington and Kalaheo, with no reason other than observation, the Govs look better than the Stangs. Farrington gave Kamehameha more than a hard time.
As for Roosevelt, a 4-0 week including wins over two Div 1 State Tournament teams led to that choice.
I have no problem with you rooting for your team. But your comment on battling for the 3,4,5 spots in the OIA means that the OIA is not very good.

    Thanks for setting me straight.

    @HIHoopsFan

It really doesn't have anything to do with anyone else besides myself. It's a forum to discuss basketball and share insight. I shared mine, you and Backpick have shared yours. Backpick made some great points, backed up his findings with facts and I was put in my place.

Isn't that what this forum is for? Basketball discussion?

I also don't understand how, or why you think I "write like a chick."

Lastly, you don't need to agree with Backpick that I'm super biased.

I already said in the previous, along with nearly every post I've ever made regarding Kalaheo that I am biased. It's no secret and is not up for debate.

    @Hatabata

Thanks. :) But Backpick is dead on. It's pointless for me to post here, trying to engage in discussion with such a polarity towards Kalaheo. I'll try a bit harder to bite my tongue, or possibly just refrain from commenting on them. It doesn't do anyone justice when I bear that type of bias.

    Appreciate the comment. :)

Way to hard on yourself JM. You can give opinion on anything you want. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong. Then it's up to everyone else to digest it the way they seem fit.
I just think the OIA East is way down this year, instead of 4 teams fighting it out, looks more like two. And Kalaheo in my humble opinion is not one of them.

    BP-

Nice, objective list. I do think that when all the Iolani boys get back into the mix, they'll move up to either #1 or #2, but i can agree with the Warriors at the top spot after beating Punahou.

On that note, Punahou has looked good. Sounds like Alika has a full deck to work with (i.e. Crabb, Cassidy, and Taylor) and they should challenge for the top spot.

I like the Roosevelt pick as well. Spoke to Kaipo Pale and his pops prior to their game against Kalaheo and both sounded pretty excited about the potential of their team. They were also aware that it is still preseason and wanted to remain humble regarding their early season success.

Moanalua will be there come OIA playoffs. Tacon always uses the preseason to get his team on track anyway.

Mid Pac has plenty to work on if they want to compete with the three big dogs atop the ILH.

Finally, i feel for Kelly Grant...Kaimuki looks nothing like last year's state tournament team. Granted, losing Tautofi was huge, but they are struggling right now.
