Desmond Tautofi will be returning to Kaimuki this winter from Las Vegas, NV. With his return the Kaimuki Bulldogs immediately become a top contender, if not the #1 team, in the OIA.

Currently, there is no one in the state that can match up to Tautofi in the paint. His soft shooting touch and quickness is very deceiving due to his size. Also, his 4 year varsity experience, state championship as well as playing on the national level (Reebok Big Time) will prove valuable to Kaimuki head coach Kelly Grant.

In my opinion, with the return of Tautofi, Bulldogs are side by side with Moanalua as the favorites in the OIA.

I would definitely agree. Kaimuki now owns the best big man in the state, and with all those shooters, they can play inside-out now which will make the shooters a lot more dangerous

Tautofi is a beast, but like Kalaheo no point guard. Steizel is a volume shooter and Kakitani is'nt a point guard. Last year Taulong created opportunities for Tautofi with his ball handling, speed, Kaimuki doesn't have that option this year.

One thing that Kaimuki has is a wealth of talent from the town area most notably the Boys and Girls Club of Honolulu. This place is a hotbed of talent and I wouldn't be surprised if another Taulung or Kakitani emerges from Kaimuki.

Boys and Girls Club produces players but Taulong and Kakitani took a couple of years in the Kaimuki system, do not see immediate help in the guard position this year unless a bonafide transfer comes over.

I gotta agree with laulau. Tautofi is very good. But unless a PG is found, Tautofi will have problems gettign the ball. I would apply different packages of pressure to confuse and disrupt their guards.

I also have to agree with laulau and konastyle... Kaimuki will have a hard time getting the ball down the court on a full court press and getting the ball in the paint to Tautofi.. They dont have many quality guards that can handle the pressure without turning it over.

how can you infer kaimuki has no backcourt?
We didnt get too see their depth at guard too much last year, since grant usually only goes 7-8 deep.

McKevin, Besides Tautofi, they have no point guard,Steizel and Kakitani are shooting guards. Seen their depth. Moanalua and Kahuku will rule. Tautofi will be frustrated along with Fernandez at Kalaheo.

Grant and Furtado are the best of the OIA, they lack depth. Tautofi and Fernandez though will struggle with thier respective teams are the outstanding players in the OIA.

If I'm not mistaken, Kakitani already graduated and I have to agree with McKevin. Didn't see too many underclassmen off the bench for Kaimuki last year. And with Coach Grant, I think they'll be ready for a whole bunch of presses. Like last years game against Kamehameha.

wouldn't you put Nehoa Akina and Marcus Monroe in the same category as Fernandez and Tautofi? What about Saycon?

tiger, they are all in the same category, but I am talking about what they have to work with. Monroe and Akina will have stacked teams. It appears that Kaimuki is in recruit mode, picked up Quinata from Oklahoma. Maybe I will move out Tautofi and put in Saycon. Do Saycon and Fernandez have a team that can take them deep into the season?

HiHoopsFan, Read my post. Tautofi, Akina and Monroe will do better because of supporting cast. Fernandez and Saycon don't have a supporting cast.
