By Far, the worst refs in the state. They call so ticky tack fouls and when these kids go to states, it's a shock for them.

AGREED BIIFFAN!
they are the worst!
its worse when we go mainland! damn!
our kids have to adjust!Posted 2 years ago # -
I actually had a BIIF ref call a violation on my player on a free throw because she hit the backboard first and then the ball went in. He told me you have to hit the rim first, then the backboard, then the ball can go in. I could not believe what I was hearing, but then I realized who I was talking to and I understood.

its pretty trippy to see how terrible they really are, and that nobody bothers to let them know constructively how bad it is. But hey like I always say bum bye you learn. Get it together BIF.

so you understand...... when we go to Oahu, and we are looking to get those fouls but we dont! you know why!
hahahaha.....Monkeybizness there horrible, its amazing how horrible the BIIF refs are.
When u try to talk to them... Dont! it gets you into more trouble...

In the Civic last Friday, one of our players commited an offensive foul, a charge. The refs proceeded to put the other team's player on the free throw line to shoot 1 and 1. I politely asked them if they shoot free throws on the Big Island on an offensive foul.
After I heard the loud "pop" sound, you know the sound that happens when you pull your head out of your ass, the 3 BIIF refs reversed their call!
Amazing what a little politeness will do!

hahahaha that worked? you must have been really nice! I guess politness is the key!
got it Ed i'll remember that!Posted 2 years ago # -
they usually have basketball clinics for kids around the state, they should have a mandatory referee clinic for only the BIIF REFEREES. And one of the courses is to have 5 or 10 of the best hecklers just go off on them while they run up and down the court. The referee that can withstand the abuse without blowing there whistle for a technical foul on the hecklers gets a PRIZE.

It's sad, cause sometimes they (BIIF refs) dictate games and momentum. I'm sure there calls sometimes get personal.

yea...the only ref i know for a fact that takes things personal is the bald guy from honokaa...he is an utter joke, im surprised there arent at least 7 technicals every time hes reffing a game...its unbearable just watching some of the garbage he calls!...

I think several BIIF refereees need to have a clear picture of what is incidental contact and what is not. There is too much fouls called on contact that does not affect the flow of the game. I think fouls only need to be call when the contact results in an advantage or disadvantage of a player. Sometimes this might result in some late calls because the referee needs to see how the contact affects the play. But I'd rather have late calls than incidental contact fouls.

Great point and I totally agree with what you stated manolo7777!!!!!!
Thats why we get slaughtered on Oahu...Oahu lets them play, but out game here on the big island suffers...its plain hard to watch with it being stopped everytime down the court!!! Tiki-tack

I agree, Luna86. There aren't so many tiki-tack fouls called on Oahu. They do a better job of following "advantage/disadvantage" in calling fouls. Can't see why big island refs can't enforce similarly. Who's in charge of big island refs? I think it is this person's job to get the refs on the same page.
