1. 'Iolani

3. Punahou

7. Kamehameha-Maui
8. Hilo
9. Waiakea
10. Pahoa
why do you have moanalua above kahuku and mililani kahuku went further than moanalua and mililani beat moanalua at the end
Its referred to as being "in denial", mrtirade. LOL!
I wouldn't look too much into Mililani beating Moanalua at the end. Coach Tacon, just like I did and most other coaches did, tried to play everyone in that game. It didn't even look like they were pressing that much. Once you are eliminated, you just want to give everyone the experience of playing in the state tourney. I brought up 1 JV kid and I think he almost shit himself when I sent him into the game.
Exactly Roosevelt Coach.
Kahuku made it farther yes. But no offense, I believe playing Kamehameha is a little more challenging than beating Waiakea and Lahainaluna. And winning elimination games are far more impressive than winning filler games when everyone plays. But that is just my opinion.
@ Hoopfanatic
Very good list based off of the finish of the state tournament. Though for next year, Waiakea and Pahoa will guarentee be out of the top 10 because they will lose a lot of seniors. Maybe Hilo because they still have a young bunch that will be promising. Especially since they have starting returnees: Scotty Wong, Kainoa Kawaha, and Randon Berrinobis who has stepped up in the tournament. The one that needs to be looked at for next year from the big island will be Kamehameha Hawaii!
I think that the OIA #2 always has the easier path to the semis than the champ. I agree that we need to throw out the automatic seeding and just seed the teams 1-12 and 1-8.
Nice listing HoopFanatic, But reality check! This is how the top 10 placed in the state.
1-Iolani
2-Kamehameha (Kapalama)
3-Punahou
4-Kahuku
5-Mililani
6-Moanalua
7-Kamehameha (Maui)
8-Waiakea
9-Lahainaluna
10-Between Farrington / Hilo / Campbell
Don't know how they would decide on the 10th place? Probably by offensive points scored or deffensive points allowed. But if it is decided by deffensive points allowed hilo would be 12th because they lost to punahou by 30+ points.
My pick for 10th place would be Farrington.
@ RCoach,
I agree with U ~ going with the actual seed of the teams 1-12 / 1-8 is the more logical way to fill the brackets.
On the otherhand,
Automatic seeding (top 4) can be overrated and/or underrating at times. Due to several factors; divisions, league play, strength of schedule etc, etc...
@mrtirade & BasketballJones
"Big Denial" Same as putting hilo above waiakea? Hilo lost 2 & waiakea went 1 & 2 and this is reality not fantasy. Need to see it as it is!.
First off, I am teasing HF who is a friend of mine so I like to throw a couple ribbings at him now and then. Best part about it is he knows this...
Second, these Top 10 lists are all personal opinions and not fact so go ahead and make one of your own. You have every right to do one and it will be your personal opinion.
Well..I should clarify. The only factual teams in the list should be Numbers 1 and 2. After that, every spot is fair game!
Jones allows me to park in special locations at UH. Then we eat a buffet style lunch at UH. If I had to walk from the Parking Structure to meet him, he would have to call the paramedics to revive me.
B-Jones -- Like you said to everyone, it's your own personal top 10 whoever you pick.
So, here's my picks -- and because it's my choice -- I'm going with a Top 5 and including all the schools in the state:
Drum roll, please ...
No. 1: Iolani because they Chu-ed their way to the title.
No. 2: Kamehameha because they played an NBA-like schedule (5 games) to challenge Chu-Chu & Co. in the state finale. Plus Micah Christenson is a lot of fun to watch.
No. 3: Pahoa because they're state champions, too, and maybe the most popular underdog champion ever. I also threw out the facts, and placed Pahoa alphabetically ahead of Punahou on the list ... because it's my list.
No. 4: Punahou because they had the most talent in the state, two sophomores in the paint who'll go on to play in college, and Michelle Wie graduated from Buffanblu-ville. She's a looker.
No. 5: Every other team in the state tied is for this spot, allowing everyone to feel good that their team is ranked in a state poll.
That's my Top 5 ... and I feel damm good about it (lol).
... just my three cents.
Excellent Hi-Low. These are your picks and no one can ever take them away from you. Ever. LOL!!!
