Nice All-State team brew...although, I would place Tatupu-Leopoldo somewhere up in the 1st team. This Farrington team is legit...

Also, I see you placed two Lahainaluna girls on the 1st team. Absolutely nothing wrong with that...only just leads me to believe that Lahainaluna may be the best neighbor island team in the state. I haven't seen Lahainaluna play but I have seen Konawaena and I thought that they have a couple of excellent players as well.

Hey brew, I was jut wondering why you had Farrington so low at number 6. They upset a ranked mainland team in the Iolani Classic. They played Punahou close. And, I don't recall them losing to any other local teams other than Waiakea. Farrington also beat Kamehameha I believe.

Kona could not stay with Punahou. The score wasn't a true indication of the game. Punahou cruised to a double digit victory over Kona going deeper into their bench in the first half.

    I was just curious.

I think your right, I should have put Farrington a little higher. I saw them play in the Farrington tournament, and they played very well. I put Mililani in there because they were 4-0 at the time, but I think that was my biggest mistake.

New top ten after some regular season games.

    1-Punahou
2-Farrington (Wow 95 points against a pretty good Kalani team.
3-Lahainaluna(Blow out in their first game - Rachel Rickard - 31 points)
    4-Konawaena
5-Mid-Pacific(Lost on a buzzer beater to #1 Punahou)
    6-Kahuku
    7-Waiakea
    8-Kamehameha-Kapalama
    9-Iolani
    10-Mililani

Hey brew, I'm not saying you are wrong, but I was just wondering since I haven't seen Mililani. BTW, Mid Pacific has an absurd amount of talent, but they haven't learned how to win big games. Leadership and performance comes down to coaching. No offense against Coach Cheng, but he hasn't won too many big games with highly talented boys and girls teams.

Howzit hoop fanatic, could you please update me on the ILH games that are going to be played tomorrow. There is some interesting match ups, with Kamehameha playing Iolani, and I believe Mid-Pacific playing Sacred Hearts. I just watch Kona destroy the team Menlo by about 40. The same team that beat Honokaa by 4.

Thanks and have a Happy New Year!

    Howzit BIIFHoops,

    Good top ten,

Just wondering why you have Mililani in there when they lost their first game to Pearl City by 4 and also Sacred Hearts who lost their first two games. I know its the ILH, but I think you need to win in order to be ranked . I think Keaau has a pretty good shot at finding their way into the top some time during the season, if they play consistant and eliminate mistakes. Also, I see that you left out Waiakea who I believe beat your #5 Farrington team by 7, and I heard they were up by about 18 in the fourth quarter, and they were defeated by your #4 Mid-Pac team by only 3 points. I know they lost some big games by some big scores in Oahu, but they were without one of their best players. Also, they loss to Hilo and Keaau, but the next week beat those teams by decisive margins.

I Mililani when it should have been Kahuku. My bad. I put in Sacred Hearts because they played two quality games againt real good competition. The ILH is stacked from top to bottom. I've watched Waiakea play twice against Keaau and Hilo in the Kamehameha Tourney. They need a lot of work. No team chemistry what so ever and no teamwork. Imai and Bello great players but play within the team framework. Especially Imai taking really bad shots and not playing defense. Keaau has potential not top ten material.

I totally agree with you on Waiakea about team chemisry. I saw the scores on the Kamehmeha tournament and I was a bit surprised, because I thought that Waiakea was better than that. But, the next week they beat both Hilo and Keaau by more than 20 points. If they continue to be inconsistant and not play as a team they will struggle throughout the year. But, if they start to play together they will be a very good team, definitely in the top ten. As for Sacred Hearts its true that they have played some teams tough, but playing teams tough does not justify getting ranked.

    Thanks for the info!!!!

Tonight(1/5), I believe Punahou plays Iolani and Mid-Pac plays Kamehameha. If anyone finds out the scores could you please post them. Much Mahalo.

These games should shake up the rankings!

Brew...how do you have Lahainaluna ranked above Kona? Wildcats beat the Lady Lunas at Lahainaluna gym, handing them their first loss a couple of weeks ago. Just asking. I know the Cats have more losses than the Lunas, but all losses were to quality teams from the mainland and thier lone in-state loss was to Punahou, which is definitley the best team right now.

I think head-to-head match-ups should take precedent over anything else. However, if one team has a better overall record, then that could take precedent over head-to-head. Also, regardless of playing Hawaii or Mainland teams, overall record is important. If you continue to lose, you should go down.

I do not know the overall records of both Kona and Lahainaluna. But I do know that Kona went 1-2 in the Iolani Classic and has at least 2 losses, only beating a very young and inexperienced Iolani team.

So, if Lahainaluna has a better overall record, then an argument could be made that a better overall record is more important that head-to-head.

You can make an argument for both teams.

    HoopFanatic,

Very good points, if you lose you move down.

I'am not sure of their overall records, but I know that Konawaena and Lahainaluna are amongst the elite teams in the state. Lahainaluna is a team with a very strong starting five with dominating bigs and a very good point gaurd in Rachel Rickard, but I'am not sure how deep they are. Konawaena also has a very strong five, and some pretty good players off the bench. The only thing that concerns me about Konawaena is that their pretty young. But experienced coaches may be able to help them through some of their tougher games. I think on any given night Lahainaluna could beat Konawaena and vica versa.

    Good points...
Lahainaluna is a very good team. With thier two big girls, they can dominate the bottom against almost anyone in the state. Just hard for me to overcome a head to head game at Lahainaluna. Lunas did beat a couple of ILH teams, but they will probably never get tested again until the state tournament.

    Lahainaluna: 5-1
    Konawaena: 11-2

    Your on it bigisle!

believe me I had a very hard time ranking Lahainaluna above Konawaena, when Kona beat them on their home turf. That was my biggest challenge when ranking my top ten. And your also right about Lahainaluna not being tested throughout the year. While, if Konawaena plays well in the BIIF I would have no problem ranking them #2. And if Punahou slips up and loses to one of those tough ILH teams, Kona might even move up to number 1. There are some good games in the OIA, ILH, and the BIIF this week and next week, which will probably paint a clearer picture for all of us fans.

thanks for the comments and hope to here from all the fans of basketball!!!!
