If anyone knows of players in college could you please let me know. I enjoy following the careers of our local talent.

Here is only a few that I know of:

    Girls
    UNLV - Jamie Smith

    Idaho - Shaena Kuehu
    Kenisha Bello
    Natasha Helsham

    Utah - Iwalani Rodrigues

    Penn - Rebecca Lau

Cal State Northridge - Alama, Nomura, Viena-Lota

    Puget Sound - Natasha Ludwig

Most of the local colleges and University have many players that are doing very well. Too much to list.

Most of these girls are heavy contributors to their team, which is great for Hawaii girls basketball.

    Boys:
I don't know of too much guys from Hilo, but I know Mea and Aukai Wong attended Warner Pacific last year. If you guys know of other guys at different schools please feel free to let me know. I would enjoy following their careers and cheering for their teams.

    thanks and much mahalo

Mahalo Iolani5 and factsetter, impressive list of good basketball players who have taken the next step in education and athletics. Good luck to all!

I will be trying to follow them throughout their careers.

    Once again much mahalo.

By the way did you see that the Hawaii Select team (bunch of former college players from around the state)beat the UH Vulcans(Mens) and D-one beat the UH Vulcans(girls).

Holyfield is redshirting this year for JJ.

He'll be walking on the basketball team also. I believe they're (SMU) in the Diamond Head Classic, so he should be traveling with the team

The last time SMU was good in basketball was when Jon Koncak was playing for them in 1984 I believe. That same year, giant-killer Chaminade upset both SMU and Louisville if my memory serves me correctly. I believe both team were ranked in the top 20 (back then the AP/UPI rankings only went to 20).

While not as impressive as beating #1 Virginia, still quite impressive given Chaminade's limited resources. That kind of feat will never happen again in college basketball history.

Today, you may have a D2 or D3 upset a top 25 here and there. But no small school like Chaminade will beat 3-4 top 20 teams (including the #1 ranked team) over a span of 2-3 years.

    That is impressive!

HIhater, sorry about that! How can I forget about Vicky. Is it true that she hurt her knee again? I hope not because she is a wonderful talent at a great school.

HiHoopsFan, How in the world can girls playing basketball lower self-esteem and turn to the dark side. If you have nothing intelligent to say, stay off the blog, you sound ignorant.

UNLV soph. Jamie Smith averaging 11.8 pts and 12.8 rebounds. She had a monster game against #4 UNC, 17 pts and grabbing 18 rebounds.

Cal State Northridge players Janelle Nomura and Violet Alama are also playing well.

And Shaena Kuehu is doing a fine job at Idaho.

I have been enjoying following the basketball discussions and up-to-date news regarding Hawaii basketball and players for quite a while now, but to be honest the constant bickering and trash talking is really getting old. I would like to think that all bloggers would keep the topic focused on basketball and hawaii basketball news. That is what I am interested in reading and blogging about. This is my first post on this site and I hope it is not my last?

I hope so too HiBasketball. I agree that we should be able to separate island hoops discussion and trivial banter.

The more posters sharing basketball insight the better. I've mentioned this before, but I'll reiterate it again, if you don't care for certain posters/comments, just pay no attention to them.

This is the internet and just like in real life, not everyone will get along. It doesn't mean you still can't receive the information and use this as an outlet to share your thoughts.
