Who is playing for Select
Posted 1 year ago # -
Hawaii Select players include Dylan King (Seabury Hall), Michah Dunhour (Honokaa -> AOP), Lonn Iwashita (Damien), Kona Makaula & Wilson MacLeod (Kalaheo), Michael Urcia (Christian Academy), Sam Orcutt & Moritz Krume (AOP) & Sean McWhinnie (Le Jardin).

Saw some good games and some new faces today. I finally got a look at the new Tongan boys that folks have been talking about on the Sharks. Impressive size. Are they going to Punahou??
It's nice to see Saint Francis with a boys team. They played hard. They're just one post and one guard away from being a top team in DII. But I thought they were named the Saints. Their jerseys had the name Towill. Did they change their name?
Iolani looked strange without their other 3 platoons on the court.

How was Select with Dunhour. Seems like they are the all stars from DII with him and others from AOP and Seabury.

Donhour and several others were missing from the Select team, which played most of its first game with only 5 & second game with 6 players (including one who played in 2 other games, too).

How was King, it seems he had no problem in the MIL even though some people thought Palmer was better.

who plays on the Hawaii Raiders team, and will they play against the select team in any tournaments?
Posted 1 year ago # -
Dylan King looked like the strongest Hawaii Select player (especially with Dunhour & several others missing).
The Hawaii Raiders is made up of mostly Iolani returnees, including Josiah, Gabo, Tolungari, Sheer, et al.
Dunno if Select & Raiders will play each other in the Jamboree tomorrow, but probably will meet in the Iolani summer league.

@ A31, I heard that Maryknoll beat Hawaii Select? Is that true? I was told Maryknoll is 3-0 in pool play. Coach Mello has gotten the Spartans on the right track, impressive!

Wish we could have played in this one. Sounds like a good tourney. I just have too many players out hurt or doing something else right now, not to mention a coach in Florida feeding gators. Haha

Yes, HF, in their first game on Tuesday, Maryknoll's team of 13 players was able to squeak by Hawaii Select's tired and depleted team of just 6 players (5 of which were playing in their 2nd game & 1 who was playing in his 3rd back-to-back-to-back game). Again, Micah Dunhour and several other Select players are missing this week's tournament - as with RC's team, "too many players out hurt or doing something else right now." Nevertheless, Maryknoll should be commended for playing a great game.

A31, I was talking about the reasons I didn't put my Roosevelt team in the tourney. I wasn't even talking about the Maryknoll team. Since I used to coach there and I still know some of the kids, I wish coach mello and the team all the best.

@HF and A31
I agree about Maryknoll squeeking by Select. It was a good game but fatigue on the Select team was obvious. On the other hand, I think Maryknoll may be experimenting with the line up since they have new players. Getting Austin from the Sharks will help them a lot. Seeing them with skilled guards is also a big difference from last year. Andrew Canencia along with Isaiah Dowd is a great combo. Their big freshman beast Noah didn't start and spent a lot of time on the bench. Must be an injury or something.
I think the Jamboree and other summer tourny's are a great place for coaches to test the waters with new players and new schemes. I'm sure that's probably what's going on with Maryknoll.
For my Raiders, Josiah is looking good. REAL GOOD! Our coaches need to get the ball in his hands more often.

Thanks Walker, good info to know....

Walker, Maryknoll had Austin playing against Select on Tuesday.
Also, I agree that Iolani's Josiah is looking real good. He & Gabo form a pretty good front court (at least until they go up against Punahou's big guys, Luke Komeautu, DeForest, Malik, et al.).

Dunhour is here in Kona attending the camp for future college possibilities. Both he and Aaron Fernandez are killing it!

Hawaii Raiders winner winner chicken dinner. Against punahou's big guys.

Jamboree Championship Game: Raiders 32 - Sharks 31
The Raiders played a very good, disciplined game & held the lead virtually all night. Josiah & Gabo played huge against the Sharks' bigs.3rd Place Game: Select 41 - Maryknoll 36
Select played with only 5 players - Sean McWhinnie had to leave Le Jardin's team in mid-game & change into Select uniform quickly when Wilson MacLeod fouled out in first 1/2.Posted 1 year ago # -
Beanboy, how did Maryknoll look against the Raiders? I hear they are getting better.

Congratulations "Hawaii Raiders!"
It was a Great Game!
Both Teams are Winners and have an Abundance of Talent! They'll meet again in next Weeks "ILH Summer League" before both head to Las Vegas!
