@XLR8
Thank you for explaining that for me. That is one of the main things that I look at when I am considering whether a coach is good or not good.
@brew
I very rarely measure wins or losses as how good a coach is. One of the absolute last things I look for. The main thing I look for is whether or not a coach and his team over, or under achieve throughout a season, based on the various players, talent, and skill-set they have.
One thing I also look it is how the team responds to a Coach. For example, how well things are executed according to the game plan of the coach. This can be faulted by lack of talent or experience, but thats where my next thing comes in...
I also look at the basketball IQs of the coach, IE: strategy, offense, defense, and game time adjustments, etc. For example, the Waiakea vs Kam game, Coach Paul Lee of Waiakea had Isaak Janado, (should be one of the premier perimeter players in the league), play post the whole game. He is one of the few guards on their team that can handle the ball, make good decisions, hit outside shots, get to the foul line, and play defense due to his long frame (where he also could have matched up against Apele and caused a lot of problems because of his length and quickness..since this didnt happen Apele had around 25 points and almost 10 assists). To me this represents a low basketball IQ by the Coach, since Janado was obviously not used where he is most valuable to his team...
Those are just some of the few things the I look at to determine whether or not a Coach is "good" or "bad."
