Both teams are top 3 in the West with Kohala. Both teams lost to Kohala by less than 4 points (Honoka'a by 1 and Kealakehe by 3) Kealakehe losing at Kohala and Honoka'a losing at home. Kealakehe beat the Dragons in preseason by over 10 points. Keys-I believe is rebounding for Dragons, who are the smaller team and struggled with rebounds in their preseason matchup. If they could bang inside with the Waveriders they have a big chance of winning because of their great (when their on it) offense. Kealakehe has a good enough offense to hang with Honoka'a with Thomas Naehu but must contain the Dragons best scorers in Jake Vallente and Kamu Lorenzo. For other Honoka'a fans who will be guarding Naehu? WHO YOU GOT!!!

Kealakehe by 10....I honestly think that the Dragons are the most stacked team in the West though but they just can't seem to pull it all together..

Its hard to say who will win this one. Kealakehe and Honokaa are two good teams but honestly I gotta give this to the waveriders. Too much size for the dragons to handle. I say Kealakehe by 10.
@jonnyboy,
If you say Honoka'a has a great offense then they should win. But sometimes too many weapons isn't a good thing. If the players are unselfish they should have no problem beating Kealakehe.@bibbyboi,
What do you mean when you say" they just cant seem to pull it together"?Posted 2 years ago # -
Honoka'a in a nail biter.

@MJ23..I just think they have too much talent and athleticism to be getting beat by Kohala and Kealakehe in the preseason....With the players they have they should be beating everybody in the west pretty convincingly imo....They are really athletic, their guards are pretty good, they have shooters, they have defenders and Lorenzo and #10 are good enough to carry them in slumps....Just seems like they can't bring it all together...When i watched them they just seemed like they didn't know their roles..I haven't seen them lately but even on the Rosey show against Kona they didn't seem as dominant as they should have been...And they really struggle against the press...

bibbyboi you must be a Honokaa fan. I think they have a solid first 5 but no one good off the bench. The same for Kealakehe. Anybody else think otherwise?

Lol..Honestly, I'm not a fan of Honoka'a...I just think they are underachieving...Their starting 5 is really good but their offense just isn't getting them enough looks imo..Also they don't seem to have that high of a basketball IQ...
I can't remember exactly but i remember them having a pretty decent bench..I remember for sure they have that left handing post player that's pretty good....and the rest of the bench was really athletic...I think they play their freshman guard way too much...Unless they backed his minutes down in the regular season..

True, they play Alip way too much. They should put Meyer, Esquerra, Lorenzo, Vallente, and Morales as starters. They have Jay Gaspar as a good point guard coming off the bench and they have size in Drake Liu also coming off the bench.

This will be the biggest game of the week for the west side. Both teams are tied for 1st. Winner takes over the #1 spot in the rankings.

Lets go Honoka'a!!! hows the kealakehe crowd? anyone know...
Posted 2 years ago # -
kealakehe. very rugged. they can run and just come to do work. honokaa needs to be ready for naehu, vea, de sagun, ontiverios. just be ready for everybody. they got a bench. not a team to be taken lightly.

Heading to watch kona vs kealakehe girls game tonight and honokaa vs kealakehe boys game tomorrow.

wish I could go to this one. I got Kealakehe by about 6, but it really depends on how Thomas Naehu plays. If hes not hitting, honokaa has a good chance.
Posted 2 years ago # -
i think kealakehe takes it by 10.. Thomas Naehu is a big threat on the team. i dnt think lorenzo got anything against Naehu.

Gotta feeling Vallente will be on it tonight and Lorenzo has been having his way in the post lately. Tyler Meyer I pray to god hits atleast 5 of his usual 10-15 3's a game. Hopefully Morales has a good game tonight too. Honoka'a by 7. Let's go Honoka'a!!!!
Posted 2 years ago # -
Woah Meyer is taking 10-15 threes a game??? I don't think I've seen him in the high scores in the paper...would it be safe to say that he's not shooting so well?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Nah 10-15 is pushing it, probably 5-8. Against Kona he shot about 6 and made, I think, 1 or 2. Hope Tyler's on it tonight

Dragons typically thrive off of good on ball defense. This year, their help side defense isn't as good as the past, and so thier on ball defense has been struggling a little. I can't see anyone stopping Utrera from getting to the basket. As the penetrations open up for the Riders, kick outs to Naehu and drop passes to the Kealakehe big men will be there all night. I think the Riders edge this one out by 6.

Does anyone know the final outcome between Honoka'a vs Kealakehe?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Heard Kealakehe won by 5 or something. Was an ugly game! That's all I got.

Officials were ridiculous in that game. Honoka'a came back from 15 down in the 3rd quarter I believe but Kealakehe finished it in the 4th. Very impressed with Kamu Lorenzo. He was getting very frustrated in the 1st half but came back and helped rally the comeback for Honoka'a. Very competitive game, Honokaa's shooting was off all night and they struggled rebounding.

Man what a monster team Kealakehe would be with John Ursua
