We actually went 0-3 at the Double pump tournament. This may sound kind of funny, but the boys did really well although they did not win a game. The competition was top notch. There was division one prospects playing on each court and the level of play was really, really good.
We lost our first game to the up and coming Mater dei high school players by a score of 58-50. We were down 4 with about a minute left and we missed four free throws in a row then they hit a big three, then the front end of a one and one.
The second game was against an all star travel team from Orange county, which we loss by a score of 54-47. Should of won this game but the kids seemed to be very sluggish and one step slow. We played at 8:30am, which would be 5:30am Hawaii time. No excuses though we should have won.
The third game was against IEBP all stars. Not sure where this team was from but all ten players could dunk, and they were shooting threes from about 3-4 feet behing the arc. Starting lineup was 6-1, 6-2, 6-4, 6-6, 6-7. We kind of had a small kine matchup problem. But the kids battled until the end. We loss by 21.
The experience the kids gained through playing against top level competition, will definitely benifit them for years to come. We made some great contacts for the future, and some college coaches even told us that some of kids will definitely play in college.
All the kids did really well but Micah Dunhour(AOP, Jr) and Shaun Kagawa(Kam-HI, FR.) really stood out and held their own. I actually made Shaun watch the 15 and under championship between California Supreme and Pump and Run elite, and I definitely felt Shaun could have played and competed against some of the best players on the west coast at his age.
I would like to say thanks to Dana Pump for taking our kids out to dinner and showing us a great time.
Good job boys and keep up the good work. We will definitely do it again next year!!!!!
