[closed] How does Maryknoll look this year?

Howzit crusader...
No other ILH Division 1 team will suffer losses the way Maryknoll will this upcoming varsity season. I believe they graduated every player but 2. With that said, the Spartans should have the youngest team in the ILH and will show it.
Speaking of young teams, I believe Iolani will have the next youngest team in the league...but someone will have to confirm that for me.

They are going to get blasted. Word is that the parents and the new coach dont get along. The players dont respect him. Even if this wasnt happening they would get blown out by everyone. They may get lucky and win one but even that I doubt will happen. Coach Mello sure has his hands full. Wonder if he is missing being at Punahou.

Hi 69. Why don't the parents like Melo? Also, why is it that the coaches don't respect him? I, mean, the season hasn't even started yet and they are already writing this guy off? If you ask me, I don't think that's fair.

Why wouldn't the players respect him? They should give him a chance. Thats who's going to take them into the season. I saw Melo one time at a game at Kilauea during the summer NJB talking to his players and parents and everything looked chipper. I think Melo comes with some good credentials!!

I agree, hoopsitiz. I have known Coach Melo for quite some time now and is a pretty good friend of mine. I like taking his money when we play poker, we go to vegas and do crazy stuff that we can't mention on the boards.

Coach Jessie's son is at Radford...or, at least, that is where I saw him last year. I believe he is a senior.

Jones, I disagree with you. I believe Damien will suffer more losses than Maryknoll...in my opinion.

Hi Shaka...in another posted in another thread and corrected myself by saying that Damien will have a tougher season than Maryknoll.

What u posted is absolutely false unless u mean one parent. Other than that, I know for a fact the players are happy with Coach Mello and get along great with him. I don't know where you get your information but it is irresponsible to post negative things about Coach Mello after he busted his ass all summer developing the program at Maryknoll. He basically coached the entire program by himself this summer!
Anyway, it will probably be a lean year for the Spartans, but they have a great PG in Terai, and a competent post in Jack. And if Micah Kalepa gets in shape and plays up to his capabilities, he is a great scorer too. Victorino is a good shooter but is limited offensively and defensively, and the problem will most likely be depth at the G position. But in Hawaii, guard play is king, so don't count them out! I don't predict a lot of wins, but I guarantee you they win one they shouldn't because of coaching and Terai.

i agree with you raiderhoops and about that Terai kid any notables for ILH first second team?or not anything because of how poorly maryknoll is going to be?

first of all raiders, I never said anything bad about mello so get your facts correct before you start popping of at the mouth. I have talked to a couple of parents from the team and they were not happy. I think that Mello is a good coach and yes they should give him a chance. But everyone knows that in private school with the parents paying they are not always going to do that. As for your breakdown of their players, yes terai will be good and Jack will have a good season as well. Kalepa is lazy and only likes to play offense. Victorino is not someone that I would put in the "good shooters" category. if Mello did coach the program all summer by himself than that is his fault for not getting better assistants. Are you sure that you are not Mello? Like I said before, they will be lucky to win 1 game. i wish coach Mello all the luck. I think that he did a good job when he was at Damien and he was a good assistant at Punahou. But he will not have tough kids like damien and he will not have talent like Punahou, so he will struggle.

Relax tough guy! I didnt mean to accuse you of saying anything bad personally, but when you post things, you are inherently tied to what you say. If the parents you talked to said that about Coach Mello, I apologize to you, but I talked to every parent of a varsity player (except the one I mentioned) this year and all of them said they were happy with him.
Coach Mello has excellent assistants on the varsity staff, but they didn't really help out anywhere else. He had some young Punahou boys doing the JV and I watched them beat Kalaheo's JV up at the Kalaheo tournament. I also saw them get beat pretty good in a couple of varsity tournaments, but I give them credit for stepping up to the challenge.
Mello and what looked like the same JV punahou boy head coach (I could be wrong) took turns coaching the intermediate during the summer. I don't think this is a lack of hiring assistants on Mello's part, I think this shows major dedication to his new program!
And coach Mello is too modest to pump himself up on a forum so shame on you for questioning me if I am him. I am a parent at Maryknoll who watched all the levels develop this year and am quite happy with the progress.
It may be a tough year, I am realistic, but we are in good coaching hands in Sparta! I still hold out hope for a win against one of the big boys. It may be far fetched, but I have a feeling.

Yes I was am still am a Maryknoll fan. But I am not n idiot (dont say a word jones hehe) This has nothing to do with being a fan. I am stating what I KNOW will happen and that is they are going to get worked all year long. Does that mean that I wont still cheer for them, no. But last year I defended them a lot more because they had a much better team last year than they will this year. And I was the first to come out at the end and admit that they were not as good as I had hoped but they were competitive and they did beat STL, 2 things that they wont do this year.
Hey raiders did you hold a interview with every parent and ask them the same questions. I highly doubt that you went to every parent unless you are one of the parents of a player. If that is the case then Mello must be playing your son and that is why you are so high up on his nuts. Let me guess, your son is the backup PG that is getting more playing time because Mello knows that he has to play his younger players to get them ready for next year because this year is already over before it begins. And since your son is playing you think that he is just as good as the starting PG, which he is not, so Coach Mello must be a God. You are not going to win a battle talking about that team with me because everybody on here knows that I followed that team more than anybody last year and I know who they have coming back and who they were bringing up. Yes they will be better next year, but not this year. So tell your son good luck in backing up Terai. I wish him and Coach Mello and the rest of the players all the luck. I will be watching and rooting, but it wont be the same like last year.Posted 3 months ago # -

I know Jones, its just that sometimes we get these newbies on here that dont know what they are talking about and they try to come at the Big Dogs to make a name for themselves. Dont they know who I am. he he. No hard feelings raiders. I dont want you to stop coming on here like the Pun guy did. In fact I like when people like you come on here. Makes me think back to when everybody said I was an idiot. I feel your pain. Only difference is is that I knew what I was talking about and you dont. But keep on backing Maryknoll. They need all the support they can get. At least they have a new gym on the way. Maybe we can sit together in the gym and watch a game. we can wear paper bags on our heads so nobody knows who we are. I have to keep my identity a secret.

Again, you are misguided on only one thing (Because your points are again valid). If I wanted to make a name for myself, I wouldn't come to an anonymous forum!
