Was he their best player? Sorry I only saw them play a few times and they didn't look that good.

Nutter was one of their best players, it not the best player for Roosevelt. He played point guard as well as the 2 spot.

kaimuki now looks like the team to beat out of the oia.
Posted 1 year ago # -
The OIA's best would be Moanalua. Tacon and Monroe.

Trust me, if Jason Nutrer is the piece that Kaimuki needs to win the OIA, then Kahuku, Kalaheo, Moanalua, Mililani and Campbell must be horrible. Let's remember, the Bulldogs won 5 league games and got bounced in the first round of the OIA playoffs. They will be better and could contend but Beau and Keone aren't walking through that door.

Also, being the best player on a team that's won 4 games over the past two years, is like being the hottest chick from the rest home.

All of a sudden Kalaheo is sitting solid on top the OIA!

Nutter is an okay player. But he isn't good enough to change the balance of power in the OIA East. Moanalua, Kalaheo, and Kahuku are still the creme of the crop in the OIA East.

Nutter had some game.He also has potential. He should be able to at least bring some spark back into the bulldogs backcourt. I remember the game where Roosevelt vs kaimuki @ roosevelt when OIA Red East selection Ryan Kakitani hit that game winner. That was an intense game. I sworn Nutter had at least half of roosevelt's points. Now that Coach Grant has a majority of basketball players coming out of Boy's and Girls club they should at least have good chemistry between each other.

Matthew Moy has also transferred from Roosevelt to Kaimuki High School.

We all go nuts when a kid ends up at ILH shcools but nobody seems to care when kid's leave their home school in the OIA and end up somewhere else. How many of us really think people are acually moving into these areas to make the transfer legit. Using the Auntie's address is getting real old.
With no rock solid transfer rule in the OIA it allows these shenanigans to take place.
Why is it nobody ever tansfers to Waialua or Nanakuli? I'll tell you why, because they don't have a chance to ever win. The whole things stinks to me. you live in a area, you play for that school.Posted 1 year ago # -
Good point. I hear and see everyone in Kailua, out of Kalaheos district, planning on going to Kalaheo High because of winning basketball tradition. Kalaheo picks thier 14 or 15 players then the rest are all disgruntled or unhappy. Then everyone brings up the district scenario and points the finger. We all know where everyone lives, and they know that also, but they do it anyway because the OIA is so relaxed about it. Kailua has a good program and a good coach that has suffered with less turnout because of this. It must drive Coach Tim Harrison nutts. My grandson wants to do just that. His mother's house is minutes away from Kailua High, but is being pushed by his father who is a Kalaheo grad and ex basketball player, but is in prison and has never ever been around to help anyway (not as a father, provider, coach or mentor), friends and coaches to play basketball at Kalaheo. His mother wants to stay out of it because she is so very intimidated by his father, her ex. Damn it, that drives me nutts! My grandson won't listen to me because he feels his basketball career is the most important thing in his life right now. Heck, I guess at 14 years of age, basketball is life. I say stay in your district and make a difference at your school.

Just figured out the Kaimuki situation. Saw this in the Advertiser Classified section...
Looking for average to below average basketball players unhappy at their present schools. Jump Shot and Good Attitude not required, overblown set assesment is a must.
Ability to make new team a State contender would be a plus but not a deal breaker. Send resume and letter of reference from buddies in 2nd period to Kelly Grant.Hey Coach Potato, keep your head up. Sorry to hear about you grandson's situation. All you can do is love him and give him support. Things always seem to work out.

I really don't think Nutter and Moe will make a big impact at Kaimuki. Good luck to them, though. One thing for sure is they will be playing for a respected coach. Keep up your grades guys. Make this move worth it.

where did you hear that Matt Moe was transferring?
Posted 1 year ago # -
He is still at Roosevelt. Your info is wrong. Nutter did transfer though.
Posted 1 year ago # -
So what if Nutter transfered he is not that good any way. Moanalua and Kalaheo will battle it out just like every year
Posted 1 year ago # -
Matt didn't want to sit at the end of the Kaimuki bench with Jason.

Thats right buckets, Kalaheo is always in the mix. We have had our best workouts this summer. Our weight room has been full to capacity of varsity players pumping up for this season. We are all working very hard on our verical and running like hell to improve our cardio. Look for us to make a serious push this season. We are ready to set the pace in the OIA! Watch and see this preseason! We ready! Looks like Kalaheo and Punahou are the elite teams this year.
Posted 1 year ago # -
wow, elite!
Posted 1 year ago # -
yeah i agree Kalaheo and Punahou will be decent but dont ever count out Kamehameha and Iolani from the ILH. Last year Iolani had Taylor Mounts and Pablo and who? Point is Doc makes a team every year no matter who is on the roster

Spoke with Mongy's dad a few hours ago and he confirmed that Matt is still at Roosevelt. I apologize for any confusion I confused. Of all people, I usually like to confirm what I hear first but I just went ahead and posted the information.
Shaka...watch out! Kalaheo and Punahou are the "Elite" teams this year!

No worries BBJ. You are our "Basketball Guru!" You do an excellent job. I like that guy Buckets10, and what he had to say about Coach Doc. "He can make a team every year no matter who is on the roster." Thats great stuff. Crabb is good, he could be the best player on Punahou only if the football boys don't play. I do think Makuala going to play alot and Kimo will have a good senior year. Buckets10 really watches high school basketball. He'll be a good blogger. Mustangballer, is Chico leaving cuz? Come on, trust me, you can tell us. Capacity, wow! I've seen Kalaheos gym, its not small. You guys have that many trying out! Good job with the "We've been training hard" attitude. Train hard. Kalaheo stud Cheyne Lishman was a workhorse because of his great all year round work ethic and desire to be the man. When you train remember this. Moanalua has Tacon and Monroe, Kaimuki has Kelly and Toutofi and Kalaheo has Chico and, can you be Chico's next Lishman? He's gonna need someone like C.L. to step up thier game like he did! Train braddah. So, where is Chico going anyway cuz?
