just another reminder that Kaipo Pale had 26 rebounds last night. and also dropped 19 points to go along with it. one of the top forwards in the state? i sure think so. puts up consistent numbers. averages a double double every game. hes unstoppable. if u havent seen him play, you are missing out.

Grabbing 20+ rebs against any team is an awesome job!

We have to remember it takes the "nack of the game": vision, position, strength, boxing and of course jumping. Great Job!

    hey, but WDIK?

Very true Luna86...Rebounding has become like a lost art because kids nowadays would rather show off their 42 inch vertical and try and jump over people rather than working for position to get a rebound. One of the best rebounders in local leagues over the past several years: Gary Williams. Had a 2 inch vert on a good day but would grab rebounds like there's no tomorrow.

Kaipo just has a knack for slipping into open spots. True Kalani did not block out at all, but you have to give the kid credit....26

Like I mentioned in another post, he did grab 23 rebs in 3 quarters of play agaist Mililani as well. Great kid to teach the game to. He works hard and makes my job easier. And he is only a junior, not a senior as the paper said.

Howzit Roosevelt Coach....with the way you guys and especially Kaipo are playing, we are lucky we don't need to see you guys this year.

BTW, how is Mililani and how do you think we match up against them if we ever play?

Also, I saw your buddy Coach Mello last night. There were many coaches in attendance last night at the Punahou-Game:

    Coach Furtado
    Coach Tacon
    Coach Taylor
    Coach Mello
    Coach Marciel
    Coach Selitto

I was actually thinking of going, but we had practice late so I couldn't make it.

They like to push the ball and had 1 kid that was just drilling 3s all night ( I think it was #21 but not for sure on the #). We played a lot of zone against them and took away all penetration and just made them shoot and then Kaipo cleaned up the glass. When we got rebs, we got out and ran. We were able to get to the line off the break at least 30 times. And the way that you guys break, you should be able to do the same, probably more. I am not taking anything away from Mililani if there are any fans or players that read here. They are a real good team, and look a lot better than when we played them in preseason. I think a game between you guys is going to be real high scoring, possibly in the 80s.

Hopefully we can get back to the red and play each other next year. I will have 9 guys back. I love playing games against Coach Tacon. You got to be on your game when coaching against him. Good luck on TV tonight. Coach Chico against Coach Tacon. Doesn't get much better than that.

I double that...20+ rebounds in high school is huge, regardless of your opponent. Roosevelt Coach, what's he averaging for the season? Can't agree with Rarebreed any more, rebounding is a lost art. I know last year, refs in the BIIF started to emphasize displacement fouls (not sure about Oahu). Very hard for a high school player to effectively block someone out and in the process be concerned about displacing the player. Could this have any effect on poor blockouts? It's almost that the kids have become less aggressive on blocking out.

He is averaging just about 18rebs per game to go with about 17 pts. i have to update all my stats but that is pretty accurate. He does a good job of slipping away from the blockout. He reads the ball very well. Plus he is very long which makes him seem taller. He is a good shot blocker because he goes straight up. Only time he gets in trouble is when he comes down. A lot of the time it is not a foul but refs call it because he is over the top of the player. He is just longer and bigger, but the refs have done a great job of watching for contact. Dont tell him I said any of the positives. I don't want him to think I am getting soft on him. Need him to keep working harder. haha
