Kalaheo has their head up their ass!

Kalaheo has their head so far up their ass, the shit is staining their shirts.

Why would they not hire Wally Mariel?!?

Marciel has devoted what, 20 years to the school?

He also knows the pulse of Hawaii basketball, he knows Kailua, he knows Kalaheo Basketball. Period!

'Iolani could have hired anyone to follow in the footsteps of Doc. Instead, they chose someone who knows 'Iolani, knows basketball, and paid their dues with the program. They hired one of their own. How did that work out for them?

Preach to us! Ed, do you think Coach Marciel will now pursue the Damien opening?

Not sure if he will pursue. But Damien should pursue him! At the very least, request him to come in for an interview!

Maybe because of bad Karma, Kalaheo will play in the White Division next year like they are slated to do right now. What you think Ed and Jones?

WOW!!! I didnt see this coming at all. I thought that Coach Wally would get the job. Nothing against Coach Hess, I just thought that since Wally was assisting them last year and doing a great job that the job was his. Good luck to Coach Wally wherever he ends up.

Besides being a good coach, Wally is also an upstanding citizen and successfull local businessman. A great role model for the youth of today.

Again, Kalaheo needs to pull their head out of their ass.

What's even worse, is that the school has even talked to Mr. Hess yet. What if Hess declines the position? Then what?

Then Kalaheo will have to play in the Brown Division next year.

Brown is the color of their shirt....from getting stained...from having their head so far up their ass they can lick their tonsils!

I can tell you the hiring has everything to do with the new principle. My child goes there and plays sports and I'm glad is a Senior. The principle came in last year and got rid of several coaches so she could have a say in who will coach there. She is a total ass and I feel sorry for the Kalaheo programs.

I don't want to chime in, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth that I can't shake.

Seriously, there has to be one, single, lone person out there who can side with the decision and stand up for Kalaheo.

    ARE YOU OUT THERE?

    .. hello?

I just can't fathom how someone can responsibly say they are trying to make a decision that is in the best interest of the school and the students when:

A.) Everyone who has anything to do with the school is saying to choose Walt.

B.) Every student who is a member of the team, along with their parents are saying..

    choose Walt.

I don't get it. As you pointed out Ed, 20 years of this man's life have been dedicated to the program. It was absolutely crushing to hear him on the phone, trying to organize the rest of the AAU scene and summer league when he is obviously reeling.

    Ridiculous.

The school has to look at it (hard when they have their head up their ass) as the position being more than just a head coaching job. It's a community postion.

Wally is a great, contributing, member of the Kailua and Kaneohe community.

Hard to see the light, when your face is covered in mud! Plus it's smelly in there too!

Kalaheo Administration...pull your head out of your ass!

Agree with you Ed! I also know Wally and think he would be great for the position. I know Chico was lining him up for the spot, but then I also knew that stupid principle would some how shit on everything!

Hey Ed, I'm a Kalaheo Alumni.

I'm very Proud of my Blue and Orange Bloodline!
Back then (In the Day) our colors were Blue and Orange, as AD Lee Cashman would Never Mix the two colors (Blue + Orange) instead he made Choices to Improve the Quality of the School, Student Athletes and Community.

Mixing Blue and Orange does in Fact make Brown!

    Boy , Has Time Changed!

I am very good Friends with both Coach Marciel and Coach Hess.
As well as Coach Furtado and the late Coach Pete Smith.

I too am Disappointed in this out come, being a Hard Core 808 Basketball Fan.

    Good Luck to Coach Hess!
My he have the same success as he did last season at AOP!

Good Luck to Coach Wally, may he find a Home/School the will Appreciate his Love, Committment and Dedication to the Game/Sport of Basketball!

    God Bless and Peace Out!

Wow- really a shock. Thought Wally was a shoo-in for the Head Coaching job.

Hey Wally, your alma mater could use you. Coach Kaaa
will not be returning to coach. Damien will put an add out in the paper shortly for a new Varsity Basketball Head Coach. You're a good man and coach. Please apply. I know you got the shaft last year and you would have done wonders this past season at Damien.

Contrary to everyone's belief about the school- they do have some athletes. They return their two posts (6'6" and 6'4") and some decent guards.

Ayways, good luck to you in your future coaching career.

Public school-new principal. Guarnatee they're going to want to step in there and put their own stamp on things whether it needs fixing or not. I've been with the DOE for 11 years and have seen this time and time, again. Even if you're the best man for the job, and the kids want you, and the community supports you, and anyone who knows anything about the sport/subject thinks it would be an excellent choice, if that principal ain't comfortable with you, forget it. Look at where this mentatlity has led our public schools. Lucky we live Hawaii.

First of all I'd like to say that Coach Marciel is a fine person and would have done a great job at Kalaheo if he was hired.

But, what is wrong with hiring someone you know or are familiar with? That is what many smart businesses or companies do.

Personally wouldn't you want to hire someone in which you have already seen their work ethic, job performance, and other things associated with the job?

If any CEO, COO, CFO isn't comfortable with you, then they wouldn't hire them. Why would someone in charge hire someone who they are not comfortable with? Would you hire someone who is below you, yet you do not trust them, or you are not comfortable with?

My friend is the CFO of Hoku Corp. They just got bought out by a Chinese Firm for a few hundred million. They are in the process of restructuring the company.

They will leave some people in place, and they will bring in their own people too. They totally reconfigured their board.

Are you going to tell me that is the wrong mentality?

It isn't this mentality that has put our public schools in the situation it is in. It's the lack of funds, parental support, and lack of leadership from the legislature which has caused our schools to not improve.

Whenever there is new leadership, often the new leadership brings in their own team. It happens in sports, it happens in business, and it happens in education. Why shouldn't and why wouldn't it happen in high school sports?

I think it will work out for Coach Wally. The same sort of thing happened to me at Maryknoll. I took over after the season started for Blaine Gier and I had been his assistant for a while. I was under the impression that I would be the next coach but it was not to be. But it worked out great for me. I had never been to states before there and have now been there twice in 2 years at Roosevelt. And I am much happier here. Hopefully Coach Wally will land a job right away and get right back in there. Things happen for a reason and he will be alright.

HF, you didn't have the same feelings and opinions when Alika got the job at Punahou.
