Hey guys. Just got word that Kalaheo only beat Punahou Div. II by five. I was also told that Kalaheo kept their good guys in for most of the game. Any info on who's good on the Div. II team for Punahou? If they stayed with Kalaheo they must be a pretty good team (Maybe they should play in Div. I. haha)

'Iolani will get their chance against Pun Div 2 at the Moanalua Tournament after Christmas.

I've been told that Punahou DII looked better than thier DI team because of Punahou's star football players not being present. Which is why DI looked short handed on the bench at the Radford Tournament. Thier DI team has been missing Te'o, Hillard, Toma and Makaula and should get them back to practice today. They will make an instant impact garanteed.

I'd say missing four starters is a little set back at this point in the season. The Buff have height, muscle, speed, ball handling and shooting. Once the football players get adjusted, they will be tough to beat. I still think Toma is one of the most underrated players in the state.

Punahou DII team this year is stacked, because only two of their players from their undefeated JV team from last year made the Varsity I (James Dowsett and Taylor Crabb) The juniors that are on this team are so good that there were many returnees that were cut during tryouts I hear. They have many guys who would be playing DI at other schools including:
6'2 Junior J.K. Duncan (Great shooter)
6'4 Junior Kaiwi Crabb (Big Center)
5'8 Junior Kevin Mukai (Plays for Hoops Paina in outside leagues, has a nice 3 pointer)
5'9 Junior St. John Kim (Best defender on team)
5'10 Junior Noah Hammond (Shooter)
6'3 Senior Nick Kido (Returning 1st team DII)
5'8 Senior Galen Arakawa (Returning 2nd team DII)They will dominate Division II and it didn't surprise me at all to hear about how close they played Kalaheo.
Punahou DI did have a hard time against Kamehameha in the championship, but they had only eight players, and were missing some of their best players in Toma, Hilliard, Te'o, Shibuya, and Makaula. Kamehameha's defense and outside shooting looked scary though so they definitely look like they will do some damage this year.

Obviously you were not at Radford, the Puns suited up 10 guys for the tournament. Yeah the big 4 will greatly upgrade them, but a loss is still a loss. Way to many tournovers and not a really good perimiter shooting team. Unlike Kam which has many outside threats. The ILH race is very much wide open.

not sure if the Raiders know what their in for at the Moanalua Tourney with the Pun Div 2 team!

I was there, and yes they had many turnovers, but isn't that expected from such a young team with only one senior playing? The experience they are getting in the preseason will help Punahou be a stronger team once the season gets going, and I believe they have one of the deepest rosters in the league.

Hey smartypants, your Punahou II team, the one with the deepest roster in the league, the one with players that would play DI at any other school, ya that team, they just got blown by Iolani. By 25 points. Thought they were good. Punahou II, overated by smartypants.

Howzit 4ptPly. I made a few phone calls to find out that indeed Iolani had won. I did not get the final score though. What was that final score please.

4ptPlay, if you were at the game you probably would've noticed that Punahou was only down 9 near the end of the third. Just sort of got worn down at the end. It was the first time I've seen this Punahou team but I'm pretty sure that they don't normally shoot as bad as they did today. They did beat Kailua by almost 20 when the Div. I team only won by 8. Idk, sounds like you're an iolani kid or something that came on here to brag. I guarantee that this Div. II team is better than what they showed today.

ILHhoopstar, who asked you anyway?! I'm a St. Louis fan. Iolani won't brag, they keep it humble. You sound like a Punahou fan that just lost. A loss is a loss. Unless you lose by 25. Thats a blowout. Your gaurantees are worthless after a blowout.

Oh...you're a St. Louis fan? I'll excuse your misreading of my post since I know reading isn't taught at St. Louis. I merely said that Punahou was in it for most of the game and that they couldn't keep up at the end. I don't like Punahou more than any other team, I just like it when Div. II teams are good because it's fun to root for the underdog. I also think that discounting a team after one bad loss is immature. My guarantee wasn't like that of Terrell Owens or something, it was just me telling arrogant people such as yourself that one game isn't the end-all be-all, and that I'm sure Punahou, as well as Iolani, could have played better. You should buy Rosetta-Stone so that we can have an intelligent conversation together. Until then, please, take a chill pill.

I am a St. Louis grad and didn't like what you just said. I thought that your blog was funny until now. You came on and said "Iolani kid bragging". Making excuses like they "tired out" or "they shot poorly". You should mind your mouth wise guy! Keep talking big mouth! You sound like a kid!

Howzit from the Big isle! Just wondering if anyone knows how Waiakea is playing in the Merv Lopes tournament.

Schooled, I admit that I shouldn't have said that about St. Louis. I was more trying to talk about 4ptplay's arrogant attitude rather than pinpointing St. Louis as a whole. Sorry about that.

Howzit gang! If I may add my insight regarding the PunahouII/Iolani game:
The question(s) coming into this game for both teams were, how will these two teams perform being that it was the day after Christmas. For the most part, I thought Punahou came out shooting fairly well throughout much of the game, except the beginning of the 4th quarter. I believe the Puns hit about 4 or 5 3 pointers, and drained a looooong 3-pointer that banked in at the end of a quarter. Iolani, on the other hand, was plagued early and often with turnovers and numerous travelling calls.
Punahou has a nice squad and can probably beat some of the lower end ILH Division 1 teams, but against teams like Iolani, Punahou and Kamehameha their margin-of-error dramatically decreases, which means they would have to play mistake free basketball and shoot lights out.
As for Iolani, fatigue from playing 4 straight games against ranked mainland opponents may have been a factor, but I will be honest here...I don't know what the big deal is or why anyone should be making excuses. IMHO, they beat a very good Punahou Div 2 squad by 25 points. They came out slow and ended strong which is all that any coach could ask for regarding the circumstances.
Have a great New Year!

Howzit brew...I'm trying to find out scores myself but its tough right now because of last nights island-wide black out.
As soon as I hear anything I will post it.

By the way, ILHHoopstar, why did it have to be an "Iolani kid that came on here to brag"...?

Good morning. I slept well in the dark. Anyone with earlier (before the power went out) game scores?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Thanks BBJ,
Sorry, I made a mistake I believe Waiakea boys play in the St. Louis tournament tonight.
I found out Hilo lost by about 56 to a mainland team.
I'm not sure about any other games, but if I find out I'll be sure to post it.

I definitely did not say that Punahou II had the deepest roster in the league, because that's just ridiculous. To make myself more clear, maybe some of their players can't play DI at an Iolani, Kam, or Punahou, but I do think they have guys that are capable of playing at the DI level. And do you think I would ever pick a DII team to upset Iolani? I think 20 point loss isn't bad against a good Iolani DI team, especially when they played them pretty close the first half. Punahou DII beat University by 30 points yesterday, making it pretty clear that they are by far the best Division II team in the league.
