How much will Ka'u win by?
Either way, I think Kam's "coach" will find a way to keep it close with his inconsistent starting line ups and subbing.

LOL!!!! If Ka'u wins, Kam should move the JV up and cut the varsity...lol....But that aint happening....Kam by 20
lol. whatchu mean? most of Kam's starters if they weren't moved up to vars would be playing jv. lol.
Huh? I think they have one sophmore that starts and a fresman who gets playing time, or does he start now??? The rest are Juniors...
carvalho and cabatu are juniors, apele and turner are sophomores, kagawa is a freshman and the last i heard kagawa was starting. andrade is a junior. and kackley and wong are sophomores.
St.Joseph started two freshmen and a sophomore last year and they did fine. This year they start two sophomores and a junior and they are ranked six in the state. There role players and bench don't have close to the experience the Kam players have. How many years has Shaun,Kackley,Apele etc. been playing basketball. Not only playing basketball but playing in the Kam system. They have talent, scholarships, two indoor gyms to practice,a weight room, shooting machine, media room, trainers, etc.etc. Compared to Pahoa or St.Joesph DII teams who beat them or for that matter any other school on the island they have everything. They shouldn't be making excuses for there failures.IMHO. I think it was John Wooden who said I rather be young and talented than experienced with no talent.
@XLR8. i dont think anybody's making any excuses. just mentioning that they're a young team that's all. you make it sound like they're a pro team with all the resources that they have. last i heard other schools have talented players, a gym, and a weight room. is it the kids fault if the Kamehameha coaches had the insight to teach the kids the Kamehameha system from a young age. nobody's making excuses and i dont think that the resources that they have make a very big difference. just my humble opinion.
Wow, we threw in the resources that is readily available to the Kamehameha students. You know some of this boys have played together in age group and continue to play together in the off season. They will do fine tonight. They'll bond and trust one another.
I believe that Carvalho will have his breakout game tonight. I don't say this because it's Ka'u, I say this because his roots are planted firmly in the district. Very good and supportive Ohana. Who wouldn't want to do well.
It's just my humble opinion.....purple cow.
There's a difference between a "young" team and an "inexperienced" team. A young team is one filled with underclassed players such as Freshmen and Sophomores such as Kam, St Joe, Kona. St Joe is an experienced team, although young. Kam does have experience, but probably not as much as St Joe. Kona is inexperienced. We can assume that all three teams depend a lot on underclassmen, however, you can see by the records that the inexperience in Kam and Kona are evident.
how big is Ka'u? enrollment?
you guys are talking about kam vs kau when they are much bigger games tonight..
BIIF Fan...if Kam vs Kau is not a big enough game for you, you probably should've never clicked on the tread in the first place smart guy.
@ B-fan true bigger games tonight fo sho. I think many eyes are on Kamehameha because of the expectations that are on them.
@ B-isle. How can this team be inexperienced? Lanaki had been playing since was 5. Kackley, Kagawa, Carvalho, Cabatu, Hiro, Andrade and Hassenritter have been playing for yrs. To say that they are inexperienced is a let down for these young men. What can you say about Fairman at SJH......he's been playing organized ball for 3yrs at the least. Comon man!
* BIIFFan,
Yeah, there is definately bigger "more meaningful games" in the BIIF tonight but why not talk about all of the games (like so on the board).
WHS should take care of St. Joe - As long as Morante and Mattos show up along with Libao, they should control the game and win!
As far as Ka'u / Kam - It might not be a big game to most, but both teams are 0-4 and are eager for a win!
Kam -
Young, experienced, inexperienced, starters, subbing and coaching etc, etc, these are all good reasons why they might not be winning thus far, but "thats why they continue to play the game." If they make the proper adjustments things may or may not change.
But life and Basketball goes on!
OldG,
I also think (The BIG 3) Carvalho, Cabatu and Aplele will lead the team to victory for sure. But I feel that the coach will find a way to make it look alot closer then it actually is.
From prior posts and the newspapers; Carvalho has been pretty steady 8-16 points every night with 10-15 Reb's a game.
But I think the coach will empty his bench earlier then normal to get his 2 Seniors some playing time /along with others who don't play much.
Carvalho from Ka'u? Huh? I thought he was always from Hilo?
Hilo vs Keaau - I think Hilo will pull this out very ugly, running and gunning with turnovers gal-lour!
I've been hearing that D. Allen has been a very unhappy camper lately "pouting on the court", I think he'll have a great game here!
Intresting post OldG,Fairman looks good for just 3 years. Can you imagine what he'll look like at 5 years. Scary with that size.
H-Back
Carvalho is from Hilo but has strong bloodlines in the Ka'u district. Very close knit Ohana who support him and the teams he plays on regardless of the outcome.
I wonder why Dakota would be unhappy. He's been bouncing around schools like fleas on my dog. Good to be in the best situation for ones self, but basketball is a TEAM sport.
Humble opinions of mine.....may not be worthy but humble.
Maybe D.Allen isn't at one school long enough to gell with the others. hmmmm! 3 years 3 differnt schools. To bad with his size it would be nice to see him accel no matter what school he's at.
Yeah, I heard Carvalho was gonna transfer to Hilo after last year. I'm not a fan of Kam, but i'm kinda glad he didn't.
I heard his main sport is Baseball? Imagine if he focused only on basketball?
lol, fleas on you dog (dakota allen). Thats sad to be known as a consistent transfer player.
I know his father personally and I can't figure him out - changing his sons school year after year?????
OldG, not trying to "let down" anyone on Kam...let me clarify. What I meant by experience was ultimately varsity basketball experience. St Joe's team is comprised of many returning varsity players that had a lot of real game minutes last year. Apele and Carvalho are probably the only two Kam players that had good minutes last year at the varsity level (and it shows this year). Please read my post again, I actually stated that Kam had experience, just not as much as St Joe.
Kamehameha wins.
I agree Kamehameha wins. Would be a nice boost for them if it were by double digits.
Good luck to both teams tonight.
@B-Isle
I took your post in a positive light. I need not re-read a post to get the point. Varsity game experience or the lack there of was taken into consideration. Most of these talented young men have played at a HIGH level of intensity already, I feel there's a fine line here. To speak frankly, they are good. I think we should just let Kamehameha(not Kam) play the season out. And thanks for advising me to read your post again.
Ka'u rides the "pine soldiers" and pulls it out by 5!
Trojans win, Trojans win!...just watch out for the stones on your way out of town Kamehameha!!!!!!!
But then again,,, what do I know!!!!!
@mojo You don't think resources make a difference. Have you seen Pahoa or St.Joes Gym. Not Gyms. One gym With one small court. That they share with the girls team and boys jv team at pahoa. And a few baskets on the side. If they even have a weight room and I don't think that they do, I'm sure it wouldn't compare with the state of the art one Kam has. Resources don't matter? Wasn't that one of the main reasons June Jones left UH. Everyone knows resources matter in the deleopement of players. If you don't have gym time how do you improve. You said your not making excuses and maybe your not. But every time you say they're young or inexperienced you give them an excuse. How many times has Shaun or Adam etc.played in a tournament in the mainland or on Oahu against tough teams and great players in the off season. Now I know Pahoa players haven't gone to the mainland in the off season and if St.Joes did it was with the Kam players. It's not their fault? They had the insight? Please. The Coaches did so players would get exposure and help them be ready to play in high school. @bigisland Kona doesn't have near the talent Kam does, experience or not. Kam has as much or more talent than most teams on this island. They just aren't getting it done so far this year. Note! so far. I think they'll get it together and make the playoffs this year. And be the favorites next year. Not becuase they have experience but because they're very well coached and talented.
@XLR8, no i dont think resources make that big of a difference. Kamehameha has 1 gym at the high school and 1 gym at the middle school. most times the varsity boys and girls and a jv team split time at the high school depending on game schedules. and you cant compare high school and collegiate resources. at the collegiate level you need up to date equipment and facilities because that directly impacts recruiting. im sure parents are wanting to send their kids to Kamehameha for their "state of the art" gym.
anyway title of this topic: Kam vs Kau, i think and hope that Kamehameha wins.
