want to make a comment about last nites game kohala vs honokaa.yes we did it very happy that our community supports our basketball team, this is what it's all about.I just wish that the other teams dont take it personal because after all kohala high school kids never gets the recognition they deserve. Our kids are very talented and very proud.I hope west hawaii and tribune herald reads this comments because they hardly ever talks about our kohala kids, or have anything positive about them,is it because we are a small school!!!Kohala cowboys you guys kick ass continue your positive energy and you all will go far, boys you guys make us proud,Brandon keep smilling on that court cause you and your team gets us going the adrenaline rush.........GO COWBOYS

@BIIFViking-i really dont think Honokaa can make it to states this year, everyone knows i am a Honokaa fan, wishing that next year the junior 6'9 from HPA (Rokas?) transfers to Honokaa, then we definetly have a chance to run the west side!!

Kohala has been playing well every year and last year the went undefeated in regular season play and biif playoffs. This season looks bright also as they are 8-0 but they might run into some trouble if they face st.joe in the biif tourney they dont have the depth they did last year but they still have bautista 2 time player of the year

maybe honokaa have a chance if they play as a team can't always think win win win go out there and have fun it would be nice to have it all but have fun in the process don't let your temper get in the way, right!Yes they are 8-0 and like each game they play they will run into trouble but the boys are team players thats the key.I can go on and on talking about the cowboys because this is the only recognition they will ever have thanks to hawaii hoops i can say how i feel, don't get me wrong i give credit to all the big island boys, however kohala is my alma mater.

    Your right!

Pahoa and St. Joe were better that night...so give credit where credit is due bro.

Yes, it maybe that the best team in DII lost...but hey what can we say..."thats why they play the game"

On any given day...it could be different, but on that night...Daggers and Cards were triumphant!

All I know is that Kohala has the best fans EVER!!! They rented a bus and brought all of them to the game...If anyone has a pic of all the fans there you should post it..I swear it was the whole town...They covered the whole half of the civic behind Kohala's bench and had some in front of Kohala's bench...Truely awesome...

Not to mention the cow bells..lol...Seriously awesome...

Hats off to Coach Fernandez! I know the loss to Pahoa will hurt for some time, but Coach Fernandez and his boys can console themselves for the incredible job they did this year. Going undefeated against excellent division 1 teams and a huge HPA team--those are miracles in themselves. Coach Fernandez molded an average team around Bautista and came within a second of going to States again. Can you imagine what Coach Fernandez could have done with the St. Joseph talent? To the Kohala players: you played within your coach's system, no questions asked, and performed to your potential. Congratulations to you all! We all enjoyed watching you play.

Yep, great year Kohala!!!! Too bad the system wasn't different, you folks would have had another chance to show your stuff. I feel really bad for Bautista, but he had a great season and career. Brandon I hope to see you doing good at the college level. Keep balling!!!!!!

I think Kam-Kapalama will be in Honokaa because Kam lost to Punahou for 2nd place. Good luck to Honokaa!

Nevertheless, I wish I could watch that game and match up. I will be at the States though and pulling for Hilo and Pahoa.

@manoolo7777, Are You Implying That Coach Fernandez Would Have St. Joe's Playing Better Than They Are? I'm Not Sure If You Are Aware Of This But This Is The First Year In A While That Kohala Hasn't Been Stacked. Not Taking Anything Away From Him, Because His Style Works Wonderful With The Kids That He's Got, But I Highly Doubt It Would Be As Effective As St. Joe's System Right Now With Their Kids. Has Kohala Ever Been Considered The Best Overall In The BIIF? I Know For Sure Kohala Has Had As Much Talent, If Not More, In Years Past.

Again, Not A Knock Because Kohala Has One Of The Best Programs If Not The Best Program In The BIIF, But To Say He Could Have Done More With St. Joe's Roster Is A Bit Of A Stretch.

@Uncontrolable. I did not mean to imply that St. Joe would have done better under Coach Fernandez. I have tremendous respect for Coach Scanlan and what he has developed over the years. He is definitely the COY. If Kohala had a post like Fairman (and give credit to Coach Scanlon for developing him), and a runner and scorer like Andrade, sky's the limit under Coach Fernandez and his style of play. Kohala didn't have an inside game this year and no consistent scorer. I can't recall the last time Kohala was "stacked".
