Opinions?
I watched the Mililani game, and was very impressed with what I saw from the Freshmen, who starts on his varsity team. He converted several and-1's, and is an efficient free throw shooter. He is very quick, and can get to the basket. He seemed to be a little immature, bickering with players on the court, but as his game progresses I believe maturity will come as well. I think by his senior year, he'll be a solid POY candidate.

I agree!!! I watched the same game and I was very impressed with his game.

Marcus is way beyond his years in ability. Immaturity is an issue, but hes a freshman. I believe Coach Tacon will groom him into a great leader and a fine young man.

Keene is good for a freshman, definitly a POY candidate for years to come but if he's gonna want respect from other players, coaches, etc. he's gonna need to let his game talk for him and not try and start a fight just because he blocked someone who btw was shorter than him.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I don't think he tried to start a fight. If you watched the game on t.v. the other kid looked at him first then Marcus retaliated. Granted he shouldn't have taunted him in the first place but I don't think he wanted to fight him. Just some showmanship in this case. I've done it and so have many others.

i like this kid, he has moxy something that you need if you are playing the point, i was at that game and the Milliani kids were talking a lot of smack, i was sitting court side, they were taunting him and did alot of pushing and shoving him trying to shake him, i played the point in high school its probally the toughest position on the court next to center because you are taking alot of hits, Kid-d have you ever competed at all sounds like you never have, respect comes from other players by beating them not holding their hands during a game, if you watch the interveiw when Keene won the player of the game against Arron Fernandez's team you would see and hear that he is a well spoken young man who is very respectful... he will continue to get better and will be a force in the future

He's a good kid and great player. Yes he is cocky but will learn how to control it as he ages. He and my son have played on an AAU team together and are great friends and he has no problems working with younger kids and pushing them to be better. In the last two years I've seen him mature and I look forward to seeing the progression. He will be around for awhile!

ive havent seen any other player shorter than keene he is not 5'7 like the t.v. says he's 5'2 in high heels but to be that small you gotta be a little rough around the edges but you better back it up and he is doing that for a freshman.

@mainland
Yes i have competed and I understand your point and yeah he probably is a good kid and is well spoken but im talking about respect on and off the court. Mililani was talking smack but if you go around reading this forum, who isnt? Supposedly moanalua was going to put mililani on the "grill" and keene and monroe were gonna drain 3's all over them..keene ddnt make any 3's and monroe was limited to one 3.
I dont mean any disrespect to keene or his fam/friends, he has a bright future and i wish him the best. I'd just hate to see a great player like that get into trouble or disappointment because of his mouth.Posted 2 years ago # -
Aw common kid-delicious. What could he have possibly said that would get him in trouble? What could he? I think maybe the Mililani faithful are just bitter because they lost to a better team, maybe they weren't ready for the freshman and his abilities and that they wanted to taunt him to get a reaction. And the reaction they got, wasn't the one they wanted. Who knows?

@hoopsdelight
you know what? you got a good point. Maybe mililani is bitter, and maybe they werent ready or was surprised by the freshmans abiblity. But what i said is just an opinion. Everyone knows he's good but what about the example he shows on the court? Sure everybody gets hyped and can get excited and maybe lose their temper...sure he was getting pushed and shoved all throughout the game..but its competitve in the league and you need to expect that kinda behavior.Posted 2 years ago # -
And you need to expect that Freshmen make that kinda behavior as well. Your opinion is warranted and you have a right to that. I respect that. Trash talking is part of the game. I think that he and his coach need to work on that aspect of his game as much as his skills. If he does that he will become a great player. I'm pretty sure everyone wants to see how good this kid can get and will get.

@mainland
You think just by beating someone at a "team" game, you deserve their respect? Now, your right about not having to hold anyones hand to get respect. But you dont need to talk sh_t and act like you are gods gift to basketball to earn respect either. See basketball is a "TEAM" game, that meens the 14 other players now have to deal with the actions of one. Now coachs, players, "REFS" consider Moanalua a cocky, disrespectful team. You talk about one sided calls, bad refs. Why do you think that is? Yeah, Mililani may have been talking smack, but was it the whole team? Was the boy that Keene "fouled" one of them? See dis is not the mainland, dis is an island where everybody knows somebody. Keene is going to be a great player but I dont buy being immature as a reason for acting the way he does. No disrespect, but your grounded foundation comes from home. Quick question, why didn't Keene play or even suit up at the preseason tournment at Radford?????Posted 2 years ago # -
Marcus Keene is a great kid with a great family. Like all young people he needs a little direction. But, I'm sure his Mom and Dad will help him along and keep him on a successful path.
Coach Ben is (Marcus' father) a good guy and if you really have a problem you should probably address it with him. He's not hard to miss.
@UNODAT, don't come on a BLOG and hate. It's easy to sit behind a computer and talk smack.

unodat, what are you saying because i'm not getting it, are you biased as well are you a ref? if so i can see why schools like moanalou and ponohou and iolani get some pretty bad calls, because you like many can't see past the island BS, nobody cares that you know them, that kid is a competiter hands down, you as well everybody else on the island that follow sports should realize that if he was at saint louis or Kahuku or one of these traditional powerhouses would you be saying the same? i watched the teams from the big island come over here and all they wanna do is fight anybody that puts up a fight against them, i dont see you bashing them, whats up with that? that kid has gotten the crap kicked out him the whole season players pushing him and shoving him with no support from the refs because they act like you, its a shame, its ashame thats all i'm saying.... as far as why he was out in the radford tourney he did play in two games i think but missed two because of grades, not failing but dad held him out because of work not completed is what i heard, but anyway that was personal and i want ask... ask his coach or dad if you need an ansewer

Well, all I know for sure is that he will be one of the top players in the state.
Posted 2 years ago # -
you dont get respect from other teams by beating them, you only earn the bragging rights. But that team that loses..if they come back and avenge their loss..thats when respect is earned.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I'm not a ref and not bias. You talk about the kid getting the crap kicked out of him,the kid not getting calls,the kid is going to do this and the kid is going to do that. What do you expect is going to happen wen you are only about 5'5" and 120 pounds. What has the kid done? Impact Player of the game at Kalaheo(how many of his points came off assists from his "teamates")? See thats da problem, if he wants respect den he has to earn it. Good "teams" dont need to talk to get respect. You think keene is the only reason why Moanalua is doing well this year? The fact that the other 4 starters have played the past 3 seasons together and the last 2 as starters. I think Monroe, Racoma and Kauhola have been playing year round together these past years. Plus Kevin A. would have been a starter last year if he neva transfer from damien. He would be a starter this year to if keene could come off the bench with productivity with the second unit. Its easy to look good with all that talent around you.

@DE-BOW and @mainland
I'm not hating on the kid. He is very talented and I'm sure he will learn to keep his mouth shut and let his talent do the talking. I dont talk smack I tell it how I see it, my opinion. So no think I hide behind a computer and talk. Cuz I'm not hard to miss either my brother. Because it has nothing to do with Marcus Keene. But it has everything to do with MHS, and da other 14 players on that team. If I was hating on him I would tell you the real reason why he didn't suit up or play during that time. But that wouldn't be fare to the team or Marcus. If you are given a second chance, you should really try hard to not make waves.Posted 2 years ago # -
The kid got skills way beyond his years. He seems cocky and immature, but that's just emotions. Of course he has to get rid of it sooner or later because that won't get him anywhere in life. I heard that he almost got into fights with his own teammates during the preseason. Still, he has skill and he's probably going to be one of Moanalua's leaders next year. If not, he will at least be a leader in game stats.

Hi unodat if Keven A neva transfer last year then wouldn't he still be at damien dat makes no cents and u are hiding behind a computer cuz i dont tink ur mama wne name u unodat at berth and all the kids around r all g cuz they play hard. no talk smack about da kids cuz dey r kids so late.

well if you are not hard to find go and introduce yourself then to his dad, what you say make no sense at all they had the same team last year without keene and where did they go, the kid can handle the ball and he can handle the pressure that teams throw at him, tell us the real reason that he sat out i would love to hear it, or you just running your mouth, by the way he had 12 points 6 asst tonight i think and he was 9 of ten from the line in the clutch, so how would you call that, none of the guys that you mentioned are point guards. he is a true point
