I want to hear everyones thoughts on this.
Mid-Pac loses once again to one of the weaker teams in the ILH.. and team they should have beaten by 15-20 points minimum and yet they go down losing in double overtime to damien. i just dont get it, Mid-Pac supposed to be a title contending team this year and this is whats going on. Mid-Pac needs to make some HUGE changes.

First of all I don't think Damien was a weak as people put them out to be. They are definitely over the years the bottom of the pack but this is year is a little different. MPI has some in house issues that they need to fix, but who doesn't. I'm sure they had their opportunities to close out the game, but failed to do so. They need to change their pace, or find a different identity somehow.

monkeybizness is right. Damien is not as weak as people make out them to be this year. They should have also beaten St. Loius by at least 10 points except for some bad calls by the referees and coaching mistakes. They were also playing Iolani close for the first 1 and 1/2 qtrs until their guards couldn't stop Iolanis 3 pt shooting. They are playing well and they don't have Tim Smith who could be back the last week of the season and big # 55- the Iwashita kid, is in a shooting slump.

In preseason Damien lost to Kahuku by 3, Roosevelt by 5 and Miliani after they played a game at 2:00 that same day. Those are ranked teams. Yeah they lost to Punahou by 47 but the coach tries to run and gun with them,Iolani and Kamehameha. If they played some match up zone and mix up with some man they can stay in those games longer.

Mid-Pac was only in the game because of the Damiens coaches substituting and trying to play everybody. He kept taking the Iwashita boy out so they lose their big inside presence and rebounding. So what if he is in a shooting slump- the only way shooters get out of their slump is to kept letting them shoot.

Coach Hu has to put the Matthews boy in the block (down low) on offense- so he can complement the Swanson boy. Playing Matthews outside only slows the game down for them. Plus around the basket he is a very good scorer but outside- he is average. Yeah- he is a good kid and plays hard but the coaches not doing their team any favors by playing him outside.
The quicker big players like Malik Johnson (Punahou)
or the Tulonhari boy from Iolani give him fits. Even #21 from damien slowed him down. Matthews scored inside last night on put backs, short jumpers and free throws.

Smithm from damien broke his foot the day 2 days before the first game against Punahou at PE. Yes PE, he step on someones foot. He supposed to out the whole season but the bone in his foot is healed but he will be out about 2 more weeks. During the preseason Damien was 12-4 and took the Campbell and Kaiser and 3 way tie for the Konawaena tournament. He and Lonn Iwashita was the one - two combo during the preseason. Every good post has a good point guard playing with him. Wihout Tim the Iwashita boy is not getting as much touches which is good and bad in a way.

Good because the others has stepped up but bad cause now the big boy is not getting the touches on offense and that is what was making this team go . Actually damien should be 3-2 with the loss against St Louis a fluke. Bad Coaching.

the tall flipino skinny kid is pretty good.he is athletic and aggressive. but its damien and they only have so much talent.you can blame coaching all you want but the boys are the ones playing in the game.damien has some talent but its just if they produce or not... as for midpac they have good big men but their gaurds aren't that good.at the damien game damien just showed that much more heart.

I agree with sweetbutta about the boys being the ones to produce. I do not agree with what he/she said about Damien "only having so much talent" because each boy has their strengths, they all have talent but it's the coach that has to recognize that strength and use it to the teams advantage which I believe he doesn't. If someone is good at shooting 3 pointers, let them shoot the 3 pointers. If someone is good at being a center, work with them to be a strong center and work with them on different ways to position themselves. And why are the big guys bringing the ball down? The big guys should be posting up. Also, the boys aren't subbing themselves in and out of the game and taking out key players when things are going good for them. The coach needs to make better decisions.

On a good note...Damien had Mid Pac going. With Damien's past status, Mid Pac should've easily dominated. But Damien has greatly improved this year giving the other schools a run and not losing by much. Damien has 3 slam dunks this year...UNHEARD OF! I think 1 against Punahou and 2 against Iolani. 1 was by the Lee kid and 2 by the Cachola kid. I don't think one counted but hey they did it.

Damien is not as weak as people think.

The tall skinny filipino kid is the Cachola kid #50. He has been improving I must say.

TAKENAKA was a senior in the 07-08 season.
i didn't say he accomplished anything.. i mean he couldnt with the team they had last year.. all MPI had was 2 deep... holyfield and won and no supporting cast at all. this year with the 2 big boys swanson and matthews would have helped won and holyfield significantly. they would have been so much of a better team.. so i cant base it n last year when they had nothing!!!
