I believe Pikai is 13 yrs old, repeat 7th grader. Dayson can ball, but why is he playing in a 12u league?

Dayson Watanabe hands down is the best 7th grader out there. A gem to coach...he plays 12u because of his sharks coach wants him to, besides isnt he 12 yrs .old . Very Humble kid and is only getting better going to Agena's clinic and working with Tes Whitlock. Watch out you dont want him to make those 14 year olds look silly...its better to stay humble.

In response to the comment about Kona Gaison. Yes, he is an outstanding basketball player. But someone who is just as good is Makoa Camanse-Stevens. This kid is fantastic! He is quick, fast, and shoots excellently! Similar to Kona, Makoa also plays for the Kamehameha Basketball and Football team.

who is Makoa Stevens does this young man play for the sharks?

I know a gentleman whose last name is Stevens. He told me his son plays for Kamehameha.
What grade/team does Makoa Steven play for?

Best 7th grader? Does he play club ball? What school is he going to next year since WOLA is closing.
There are a few 7th graders that are playing in the NJB All-Net 15U that look legit.

I've been watching Dayson Watanabe (Holy Family) "Play Ball" and he is a "Tremendous Talent!"
Very, Very Impressive!

Hahaha found this thread somehow on google?
Seems Tim Harrison is coaching the Red Storm this year, featuring tim's freshman from Kailua, Keanu Vela. And Tim's son Kupaa. And a bunch of other TALENTED 15U kids. That team is THE BEST 15U team in the state. If they get chemistry- watch out!!!
BTW, where are all these kids you guys have been talking about now?Posted 1 year ago # -
whats the best u15? they should be u17!!
Posted 1 year ago # -
They will be playing in 3 different leagues this spring/summer. 2 including 17U leagues.

All you guys are blowing up the kids from kailua.

Harrison's team was stacked from last year. They had Harrison's son Kupaa, a couple of his Iolani teammates, Pikai, Eric, Lopaka, and Zach. They also had Jordan, Matt and Harrison's nephew. I heard they added the freshman kid from Kailua and some kid from Kamehameha to the team. It'll be interesting to see who starts on this team.
They already had chemistry from last year. I saw them beat a Sharks team with Dayson, Josh and Canton by 30+ point in a Championship game of the Sharks tournament.

...just wondering if there were any middle school ballers who "weren't middle school ballers" that became major ballers by their senior year?
...was thinking about the Isaih Akau's(Pahoa) and Fairman's (St. Joe) of the middle school world (big island).. was Christianson a major middle school baller?..
Posted 1 year ago # -
We played against Fairman when our boys (9-10)and 2 girls (Krystal Mills and Chelsea Poe, both 11)played St Joseph in the 11-12 league in Hilo. I wouldn't call him a major talent but he was 6'2" and long-armed and rebounded well. His talents increased as he got comfortable with his height but man, was he a burden to us!

OMG.... was that fairman? wow he did come a long way and I remember that game!

Yeah, it looked like we were the net of a volleyball game!

who are the best young post players?

...as for Big Island, today was the first day of NJB on the east side and the kids look great..
...There is a very talented 12 and under team (mostly 7th graders) who will represent Big Island with heart in their mainland travel... I don't know all the teams, but as little as I do know for the east-side 7th grade post palyers, I'd say make a mental note of Pukana Vincent, Kahinu Alapai, and Pono Brown... and as for 7th grade guards, there is a bunch on this Big Island Select team-- Noah Ferriera (mean handles and 3pt. range), Calvin Mattos (a 6th grade phenom), Baily Malingus and Kellen Goya (plays inspired ball), and a few others.
8th grade BIIF post players, the west side has a bunch and I don't know there names but they played with "Team Happy" in our HI Pal tournament and just dominated.. 8th grade east-side guards, there is a few.. Kobi Saito (handles, can shoot, and good court vision), Hanalei Leeloy (fundamentally sound), Bryson Ita (fast and can shoot) and I know the west side has a number of strong guards as well. Our east-side 8th grade class are not as strong as the current 9th graders but there a few ballers that will compliment their respective JV teams in 2012, and maybe one or two might make the varsity.

I remember a few of these Hilo boys K! Kahinu (Kaleo) is a transplant from Kona, Pono (Keoki) is a Warrior, Noah (Brew), Calvin (Jason)worked with our PGU group, and Bailey (Cal) was another of Brew's players. Vincent, maybe Keoni's son? And is Goya Michelle's son, daughter of UHH Hall of Fame Ramon Goya?
