Great Coach, end of story. If you need me to elaborate later then I can.

He's a brilliant coach on many levels. I too can elaborate, but not sure I want to write that much right now.

I'd like a stab at this one!

Great Coach! Better person! Well respected and believes in the kids (girls) EVERYWHERE!

Mike recently sent recruiters to Konawaena to look at Galdeira and Awa and he really didn't have to in any way shape or form. He does the same for others even if they play for other schools. If you are thinking he does this for the Kalakaua Program, think again. Awa and galdeira have not played for Kalakaua and will probably stay with the Kona Stingray program.

Ask his current and past assistants and they will tell you how gracious Mike is in defeat and how modest in victory. Mike also does a great job of letting his coaches take substantial responsibilities within the Punahou program (one coach has the bigs, one has the guards, one has defense and another has offense)and he just oversees the team as a whole.

Mike's first statement as to how he runs his program was that he rides Dennis Agena's coat tails for as long as he can. A 3-time state champion and assistant to another 4 or 5 championships at Punahou still showing respect to a legend!

Mike's second statement to me was that he checks his ego at the door before every game and practice. The ability to control a program and still allow his assistants the enpowerment to do their jobs is refreshing!

A better person....always in control but lets his hair down and relaxes like the rest of us. Punahou grad yes, but definitely a local boy with a good heart and the willingness to help others.

    Great Coach!!

mr taylor great coach great person, he works the refs nice treats his players with respect and all the girls want to play for him. the punahou school and bb program remains to be the envy of other schools, lot of haters but the si poll doesnot lie. punahou gets the great atheletes because of reputation most would pefer to attend and play there, i hope, for selfish reasons coach taylor remains at punahou but i would think a next level job will open up for him and that would be a huge loss to the state and of coarse punahou.

I have coached with and under Mike. He gives his assistants that latitude to make a positive difference. He allows his program head coaches throughout his program to make mistakes and learn from them, yet he doesn't micromanage them or rule with an iron fist. At times he even goes to the lower levels to assist, not boss. I believe the greatest attribute is his and his staff's amount of preparation before practices and for games.

Plus his assistant Coach Liz is cool, lol....

Mike Taylor, very good coach. It also doesn't help to have a pool of talent.

@Brian - I know exactly what you are talking about brother! Defense wins championships! Guards win championships!

Threads like this are reason why I don't post very often anymore. 808nemises is a freakin idiot! Why do you make a post like this, I'll tell you why, more than likely a person who has an axe to grind and your looking for validation from others.
Coach Taylor does not need us to come to his defense on this site to vindicate the job he does.
Get a life dirtbag. I hope you get hit by a bus!

    @backpick
First of all I asked legitimate questions regarding Coach Taylor.

I never gave any negative comment, or even hint at being a person with a negative vibe for Coach Taylor.

Frankly, I find it disturbing that you would ASSUME the worst of me and post it like you have the intestinal fortitude to carry it out. Look at my in date to this forum and you would know that I am "brand new" and obviously not a "doo doo diaper", a state worker on furlough Friday, or a student using a laptop that camps on a forum for therapy.

I have NO axe to grind with Coach Taylor. My daughter never played basketball, never went to Kalakaua Clinic, nor did she go to school at Punahou.

Who are you calling a freakin idiot?

I thought that a forum like this was supposed to be an opportunity for simple people like me to ask questions, make comments, give opinions, etc.

As far as you calling me a dirtbag and hoping that I get hit by a bus....I can guarantee you this.

I will not get into a "pillow fight" online. Look deeper into what I just posted. And you, as well as others on this forum will see that I did nothing wrong.

You jumped the gun and got all tough guy before you even took the time to answer the question. UNREAL.

No question to answer, your banner said it all. It gives the impression of is he good or is it the talent level of Punahou. That's all I need to see when I know the fix is in. You posted it, not me. So be a big boy and handle the comments as they come. The thread is just plain stupid.
Sorry for calling you a freakin idiot, your just an idiot. And I take the bus thing back, I hope it's a moped.

You must be a real tough guy!! Everybody else just answers and you gotta be the guy with the $1.98 attitude.
I tell you what backpick or is it suckdick?
I would have gone away quietly if you had just left it alone.
Now...I don't care who you are, who you think you are, or even who you wish you were. I only know this.....If you choose to we can further this discussion. But off the forum, and just me and you.

Hey da808, when you coach at Punahou, there is always going to have a wealth of talent. A nationall recognized school such as Punahou will always garner huge interest from the people of Hawaii, and mostly Oahu.

With financial aid and other scholarships available, the pool of applicants is much mroe divers and spread out. So, you can make an arguement that Punahou is getting more talent in the past few years than 10 years ago.

But, with that being said, and with all the talent there, a good coach must still mesh together the attitudes, buffer the parent's egos, and win games. Do you know how hard it is for some Punahou parents to take a back seat and keep their thoughts to themselves when they are so used to being in a ownership or managerial position in the workplace?

So given this criteria, I think Coach Mike does a fine job. They win games, the girls improve, and the team is always prepared. The key is to look at the team when they do not have the best players. A good indication would be 07, 09, and 10. In those years while they came up short, they managed to make the title game and the semis.

I hope that helped your curiosity.....And this is just my opinion and I am not saying it is 100% correct.

And no, I don't want you to mess me up, lol. Have a good day.

This is better than me and Bill. haha. Ours though is all in good fun. This one doesn't sound the same as calling one Charlie Brown and the other Ward Cleaver. We could be the undercard on this one. With Hoop and SamOwen as another undercard match. Someone has got to make this happen.

The answers are great. I agree with the difficulty of running a program like Punahou. NO Doubt it is truly difficult to do without stepping on toes. Thanks for your input. I don't know Coach Taylor personally, I only asked the questions to see what you guys thought. I absolutely have no axe to grind with him, and I meant no disrespect.
I now do however have a problem with this clown called suckdick.
I will look back on all of his posts, and all the responses, until I find out who he is.
This is an island, and it will not take long to match up who he blogs with and their identities, and then fill in the blanks.
    I enjoy stalking prey.
I don't know if many of you watch the Discovery Channel, but this is like a zebra running across the field to tell the lion "fuck you, you ate my son yesterday" It will never happen. Suckdick is that zebra folks.
