Moanalua is a great team and they have been for a while, but is this the year that they can finally win it all? They have the skill, they have the coaching, but do they have the thirst for victory?

That was crazy! It was on the news and everything. I wonder how that kid and his family felt when they got home and watched the 10 o'clock news and saw him get t-bagged like that.

@ CANTCOMPARE YOU MUST BE FROM MOANALUA. WHEN DID MOANALUA BECOME A GREAT TEAM AND FOR AWHILE. YOU EITHER A COACH, PLAYER OR SOMEONE LOOKING UP AT TWO COCONUT. THIS IS NOT THE YEAR THEY WIN IT ALL. THEY HAVE SKILLS BUT NOT ENOUGH, THE COACHING IS GOOD BUT NOT THAT GOOD. I CAN'T SEE HIS STYLE DOING GOOD AT WAIALUA ITS BUILT AROUND GOOD BASKETBALL PLAYERS NOT ATHLETES. MY OPINION ON YOUR FACTS.

banging on the menes again. They have some flaws. Are they good enough to compete against the ILH remains to be seen.

I think Moanalua will be there in the end. To me, they are the only team that will matchup well with the Big Three in the ILH. And I definitely think they have the thirst this year. Seems like it anyway. Marcus Keene - big game last night. And they are deep! Just like everyone has been saying.

Moanalua is playing Solid Basketball as of Lately! Well Coached and Gelling Quickly. Their Freshman Marcus is coming along very well and Monroe is another "All-State" Selection for Sure! I would Rank Moanalua at #4 Right Now, followed by Mililani at #5 and St. Joe's at #6, Kahauku at #7.

Id rank them #3. Iolani has two losses. Moanalua has 1 and they redeemed themselves against Kahuku a few days later. Iolani drops to #4 with a 15 point loss.

They can easily hang with ILH teams; they hung with gonzaga prep.Josiah kauhola went off for 26 points.

I'd Nominate Moanalua for "Sick Dunk" of the Week!

Monroe (Moanalua) "Slammed" one last night!
Buckner and Johnson (Punahou) each had a "Throw Down" on Thursday!
Vega (Iolani) "Slammed" one down tonight!

Though Iolani lost to Punahou, the top three in the ILH are tough. Punahou with their twin towers and guards like Crabb who can score, play shutdown defense. Feldman is a good play maker, point guard. Too much size. Kamehameha is always tough, well coached, pressing defense, you have Bajet and Christensen. Iolani is a solid team, not as big, but well coached, been together for awhile. Get some open looks for Chu, he will knock it down. Tulonghari is an athlete, he will be ready for playoffs.
I watched Moanalua and Kaleheo game on OC-16. I was more impressed with Kalaheo and their young team then Moanalua. Marcus Keene is a name you will hear for awhile, plays beyond his freshman year. Good court vision, handles, decision making. Moanalua has no inside game. Yes Monroe has hops and had some dunks, but haven't seen the outside shot and ballhandling. Fernandez had 22 points and a ton of rebounds with Monroe guarding him. Fernandez did this without a deep team compared to Moanalua. Fernandez's explosiveness was hard for Moanalua to handle. The question goes back to Moanalua hanging with Punahou, Kamehameha and Iolani. All three teams are well coached, you have explosive players on each team. Moanalua's lack of an inside game will hurt them in the long run come states.

STL, to defend Monroe, he never practiced for 3 straight days due to flu-like symptoms. He went to school then played on Friday. I will give the kid credit for even playing that game. He played for his himself and his teammates, what more can you ask of a kid?

Other than Fernandez getting hot in the second half, what were you impressed by with Kalaheo?

The four of them could beat each other on any given day. States is gonna be exciting! The thing is, assuming Moanalua wins OIA, whoever wins ILH will be on one side of the bracket, while the other three will be on the same side together. That makes it very nice for ILH winner.

From what I heard, Fernandez missed last week game against Kahuku and recently returned to the team prior to Moanalua game from illness.

Fernandez had strep throat and he missed the Kahuku game.

@ STL, I am interested, what specifically other than Fernandez getting hot in the 2nd half impressed you about Kalaheo more than Moanalua?

@ Tigerwoods....I think Punahou is the team to beat...But I am curious to see how Moanalua matches up with them with Keene and Armburst playing....they missed the first match-up.

I was impressed with Kalaheo in that they were young, scrappy, fought back. It was interesting game to watch. Fernandez took control of the game in the second half with not only scoring but rebounding. His leadership kept Kalaheo in the game.
Fernandez is playing with a young team and they are improving though lack of height. Tough scrappy defense. Kahuku has Akina and Thompson and some physical athletes, but also not deep like last years team. Moanalua has the nucleus of Monroe, Kauhola and Racoma who played together since last year. Kauhola and Racoma are tough, cane shoot. But you are not going to get the easy dunks and fast break against Punahou, Iolani and Kam, NO Way!

@ STL, Monroe had a two handed dunk against Punahou on a 3-on-2. Moanalua had about 20 fastbreak points against Punahou when they played. And this was done without starting PG Marcus Keene who sat out and didn't play. And rotation man Armbust also didn't play.

Moanalua had problems in half-court and costly turnovers. But, whenever they got in transition, they were able to score.

And DeForrest and Malik were monsters that day.

Can you please defend your argument that Moanalua cannot run against these teams when they have already proved that they can as demonstrated by the Punahou game. I have also provided specific data for you.

Now the question should be, can they have enough interior defense to slow down Buckner and Johnson?

HoopFanatic, Did not see the Moanalua and Punahou game, but if they were sucessful in the transition against Punahou, then that is their strength. Moanalua is a great transition team, superior passing, unselfish, but can they stop Johnson and Buckner? Shher, Tulonghari?

HoopFanatic, What is your take on Moanalua having half-court and turnover issues?

Like I wrote earlier, they had trouble stopping Punahou's twin towers. Don't quote me, but I believe they combined for 37 points and 20 rebounds.

Tulonghari is not a post. Scheer is a great player, but the Iolani coaches haven't been playing him and I don't know why.

I said they had some half-court problems with Punahou. Punahou has the best on-ball defenders in the state, hands-down. I don't see Punahou having these problems against the other teams.

But, other than Punahou or Iolani, will anyone have the guts to play man-to-man with them for the entire game? Only Punahou and Gonzaga Prep chose to play man with them this year for the game.

As for TO's, that was Moanalua's first game. Coach Tacon has taken care of that issue which is why they have been taking care of the ball much better.

On the OC-16 game the other night, OC-16 said they only had 3 TO's at the half. Any coach would live with that number and be extremely pleased.

Iolani will win it all....very deep...fire power and the platoon system is working well for them...Chu is the player of the year....fundamently sound..can defend...and deadly from outside and will slash on any defense...RAIDERS BABY...
