Oh Ohhhhhhh !? Here we go again.
I wish him luck, cause thats what it'll take. LUCK!!

Yeah, what is his knowledgable basketball backround besides being a past standout player for SL way back when. Is this the only coaching criteria SL looks at when recruiting and hiring a coach? Being a SL alumn athletic stuperstar of the past?
    I hope not.

Does SL recruit their coaches off the old, faded, and rusting photo memorial plaques of the past SL stuperstar athletes that hang on the walls in their basketball gym or what?
If that's the case, can someone go to their gym and let us all know whos next in line to be hired as a saint louis coach.
    This is too easy!!

Howzit gang! I will confirm what Shaka has mentioned...I hear he is a very good friend of the new AD Afoa. As far as coaching background, I'm positive he has not been a head coach, at least at the varsity level. I am not sure if he has assisted somewhere at another program.

If this turns out to be the case, I wonder what happened to all of the other well-known candidates. Its anyones guess what route the program wants to take.

BBJ, long time no hear. So how you doin'?
I fully agree with you... too bad... it seems that it's sad but true.

Wonder if the players and parents have a say in their son's short high school basketball experience and education? After all, don't the player's parents, and other student's parents pay $10,000.00+ tuition, fees, expenses, etc. to pay for the athletic director's best friend's wages & benefits as the possible newly hired basketball head coach?

Talk about taking care of da Saint Louis braddah braddah. Eh, Afoa! I know you brah!! Rememba when? Ass da one!!! Get one job fo' me or wat? Shoooots, Guarannnns Brah!!!! Wat, I get one car or wat, cuz? No worrys, braddah Ums goin' take care us Saint Louis guys!!!!! Jobs fo' everybody, yeaaaahhhhhhhhhh.

If this is the case, the local news media should be busy (good for job security) and have a field day with the upcoming student.. or should I reiterate by correcting myself by saying UPCOMING SAINT LOUIS ATHLETES doing their thing. I better start investing into the tv late night DVD video sales of "SAINT LOUIS CRUSADER ATHLETES GONE WILD"!! Is there an investment broker in da house? Where's all the chinese SL alumns from the 70's hiding?

Well if this is so, then I wish him and the St. Louis boys much luck in their basketball season. It sounds like this new coach is getting a pretty good bunch of boys from what I've read in Hawaii Hoops. Does anyone out there know if this new coach knows anything about his players? I just hope he's been keeping up with the St.Louis basketball program over the past couple of years. SLH varsity basketball program needed change, but change in the right direction. Like milk does the body good, I hope this coach does the crusaders good! I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

    Just to pass along.
Moniz, the Leilehua coach and Alika Smith were all interviewed. Heard Tacon was contacted but not interested. But no kelly grant interest for some reason.

any new info on this guy? heard he only coached little kids in PAL league...anything else to add on his resume that would make him a legit coach not just for st louis but to enter in the tough ILH division

Hey Snowman, you gotta slow down on those heavy trails of white powder, or else you jus' might hit a slope and konk your head. Moniz has some respectable credentials coaching back in the late 80's at SL when Kaipo was running the show back then. He learned much under the tutelage of the great Walter Wong in the 70's, and worked with & under some other seasoned & successful veteran coaches way back when. If he did coach little kids in the PAL League recently, it probably was because he wanted to start teaching and nurturing kids at a young age on how to play the real game of successful team basketball, before they get into their teens and start fantasizing that they (themselves) are know-it-all stuperstar playas, when actually they are only limited bball posers with bad & selfish attitudes & immature ignorance. I certainly & personally fell into that ignorant category when I earlier trashed SL & the rumors of a new SL alumni coaching selection. I guess the long delays and being held totally clueless jus' scrambled my brains into a fitful mush. I have no excuses for my past immaturity & ignorance. So, let's all try to be civil, now knowing who the new head coach will most likely be, and give this guy and his crew a chance to show what they knows, and then we can talk after seeing the results of a hopefully fruitful ILH basketball season. Good Luck Coach Dwight and the SL Crusaders!!

BBaLLr4LIFE, wow it sounds like you really did some research on Moniz. You mentioned that Moniz has some respectable credentials coaching back in the late 80's at SL when Kaipo was running the show. Was he one of his assistants because I don't remember him, I do know that assisting Kaipo back then was Lota & Aiona. What veteran or seasoned coaches has he coached under? If Moniz is the coach and comes with a good supporting coaching staff he might be able to turn the STL basketball program around.

Just4fun, Sorry, but make that the early 80's under Kaipo Spencer within the SL bb programs (don't know which exact program). He says he coached the Intermediate in the early 90's, too. Besides being taught by SL A.D. Mr. Walter Wong at the time (late 70's), he also was taught and coached by Mr. Rodney Veary of Iolani back in the day. Right now I only know of who Dwight Moniz was taught and coached by. Learning the game of basketball from these two individuals should help him along greatly when passing it along to his possible new basketball athletes at SL. I didn't hear anything on his potential supporting cast of assistant coaches (which is just as important as the head coach), but I truly hope that it'll be more than what Coach Tengan had to work with last year. As you stated, hopefully Dwight Moniz might be able to turn the SL basketball program around, starting with this year, especially when it looks like he'll have inherited a full stable of vigorous, versatile, and fearless stallions to run the floor. Use and teach them all to include an additional bball finesse into their game repertoire, and they should be able to handle any team on the island. Anythings possible, right?

BBaLLr4LIFE, yes anything is possible. Hopefully the new coach has been asking around about his players so he can get a feel of what and who he has to work with this upcoming bball season. This coach will be getting a great bunch of returning players and upcoming players from JV. Wish them all the best. And like their shirts (that some were sporting at the UH game)say...Crusaders just run-n-gun! BBaLLr4LIFE, maybe you can help me out here, I called the school to buy one of those shirts but they are not the ones selling it, would you know how I could get one?

Just4fun, Seen 'em too. Not too shabby. You can try contacting "CoachV" (Run-n-Gun's Coach Dean Vienna) on this Hawaii Hoops - Forum site, or you could try "Crusader" to see if they know who to contact for these hot navy underground t-shirts. I haven't seen neither of them join in the forums for a long time. Hopefully other bloggas that are affiliated with the SL Crusaders can spread the word & Coach V can contact you about these shirts. You can even try to open & start a brand new forum subject just to contact CoachV or Crusader about these hot t-shirts. You might even want to pick up some for the punahou buff-n-blue forumners (haven't seen nor heard from them for a while, also) as parting gifts after the Saint Louis RED-N-BLUE turn punahou BLACK and BLUE come this Saturday night @ Aloha. GO CRUSADERS!!

Hey Pun, its good to see that you were able to sneak away and use the computer. Now remember what I said, without these guys they have no chance, but with them they probably will win states. But myself, along with others, dont believe that you will have some of these players and that is why I dont think you will go back to back. Talk to you in a few weeks when you are able to use daddy's computer again. Good luck at the game this week, the players are going to need you beating on that drum with the rest of the band for support.

Good evening PPride, nice to hear from you. Yeah, sure, all my chips are in. Punahou with your football boys ( Teo, Makaula, Toma, Cassidy, Hillard, WOW!)should be the basketball team to beat this coming season. Punahou should be dominant in 2009. I do believe that Kamehameha will be very competitive with all those juniors returning as seniors and that Iolani (defending ILH champs) with thier younger players (KBB boys) maturing and stepping up should be an up and coming team to watch as well. Don't count out Kaimuki, Moanalua and Kalaheo, they will be in there till the end as well because of good coaching. St. Louis has been getting some hype this summer through good play by Run N Gun.Micah McClinton is a big low post player. So, you never know. On paper though, your Punahou squad is very very loaded and should be a huge force to reckon with in 2009, probably will be the preseason favorite. So, our bet is that your Punahou team will go back to back right! Good luck and have a good season. Aloha.

Oh Punahou come out to play. You were almost right on with your prediction, just that you had the teams mixed up. I think one of them got exposed though. Ouch! That was an ass whipping. Maybe they should start thinking about basketball, because they sure stunk up the place in football.

Maybe they better stop reading about themselves in the newspaper. I'm still angry and depressed. Disappointing to say the least! Out coached and out played. Over confident staff/coaches & players going into the game + Out muscled & out finessed in the game = Overrated football team...............Sat in the rain and humidity for 4 qtrs and saw absolutely nothing impressive at all.............My father and grandfather whom left without saying a word to anyone in the fourth to avoid traffic, they have never ever left a game early! My basketball boys Teo, Makaula, Hillard, Toma, Cassidy and the rest of my Buff N Blu players can come back to earth now with the rest of us humans because thier play was average, not godly like I and all of us Punahou Alumnus thought and treated them like. Disappointing to say the least! Good night!
