KBB beat Southside in the 17 and Under NJB Championship yesterday at Palolo. I don't remember the exact score, but the game wasn't close.

    Great game!

Congratulations to Coach Ed and Coach Thom from KBB (NJB 2009 17U Champions) and to Coach Mungi from Southside. Both are well coached teams and both teams showed outstanding class and sportsmanship throughout this very physical ball game. Both club teams are loaded with good young talent. Boy did Southside miss Desmond "The Beast" Tautofi yesterday! Keke did step it up and did a great job inside the paint in his absence. Southside just couldn't get over that hump at 15 points until the 3rd quarter, in which KBB already went on what may have been a 20 point momentum controlled run. KBB played without team captain Kainoa Chu (whom is my preseason pick for POY next season) but never missed a beat with Skalman at the helm. KBB literally played like they were on a mission to show everyone just what Iolani has coming back next season. KBB used their "One Team" mentally to spread the ball around effectively as a unit, thus getting every teammate involved offensively and on the score board.

I did see Iolani Head Coach Dean Shimamoto in the crowd. I think that Coach Dean must be very happy and pretty excited about the future of his Iolani Raiders Basketball Team.

I had also heard that after that NJB Championship game yesterday, KBB rushed to play in the semi-finals game in the Manoa Mens League and beat the National Guard Team in Manoa as well.

Congrats again to both teams and their coaching staff "Great Season!"

i think southside would have won if they had desmond

he insures at least 10 points, and 4 blocks a game

Cuz, Southside lost by 25+! 10 points wouldn't be a difference maker. I think the Kings would have been a better matchup against KBB.

As good a player Tautofi is, I don't think it would have made a difference if he played. KBB just has too many weapons for most teams to contend with. Also, their overall team speed allows them to really push the ball up and down the court in a frantic pace. This would have had a dramatic effect on Tautofi who plays better posting up than in transition.

Also, KBB did not play Kainoa Chu who is nursing a tender knee. He easily averages 25+ points a game.

The game started out with Southside taking a quick 8-2 lead with a couple of treys and a short putback on offense. After that, KBB went on a 40-7 run and surged ahead 42-15 and opted to go into cruise control the rest of the way. Although the score was lopsided, Coach Mungi and his Southside team definitely deserved to be in the championship game.

another reason why southside lost was because they were missing very easy shots

    lay ups, rubbish shots, etc....
