why is the OIA postseason tournament so unorganized? You play a game win your in lose your out then play again win you advance lose you still can advance. then if you are the loser and win you advance and can lose one more time. doesnt make sense. The two top seeds Kahuku and Mililani should have automatic berths to the
state tournament such as the I.L.H. and then everybody else play for the next 3 spots. Its that simple. instead they proceed to give the weaker teams a chance to upset the better teams and if they make it to the state tournament get blown out by anyone. Once again doesnt make sense. Reward the best teams in the regular season and let the rest decide who belongs. just my opinion....

you cant give the two top seeds an automatic state berth.
the east is always much tougher than the west.Posted 3 years ago # -
thats true the east is better than the west but I still think the west #1 should still get the auto berth. 4 teams from the east is still pretty good. although I think it will be 3 east teams this year and 2 west teams that will make it. Moanalua is out and so if Farrington.

homeboy81 youre right, you cant automatically give the #1 seeds a spot in the states because mililani lost last night to kaimuki.

Yes I realize that Mililani lost to Kaimuki last night but that doesn't mean they should be punished for beating everybody else in the west during the season such as Kahuku. I really do think you need to protect the #1 seeds or rerank them before the OIA playoffs begin. For instance, even if Mililani won the West in the future since there are 12 teams that make the OIA Playoffs OIA officials should rank them according to strength of conference or strength of schedule. so Lets say Kahuku and Kaimuki finished 1, 2, in the East come playoff time officials could give Kahuku #1 seed and Kaimuki #1 seed. and Mililani could be a #2 so on and so forth. just my opinion and I know it will never change.

The OIA should reward the east and west regular season champion a automatic berth in the state tournament but i believe they should play each other for the overall regular season title. Then ill have the regular season champion take on the tournament champion to decide who gets the #1 seed for the OIA, the 3rd and 4th place team would be the teams that lost to the 2 teams that will play in the tournament title game but they too would be given and at-large berth in the states to represent the OIA. I agree you cannot punished a team that won there division because of a loss in the playoffs. Everybody will have a bad night
one time or the other but you need to reward a team for there regular season playPosted 3 years ago # -
I like your idea a lot. But I like the ILH model better. I would reward the East and West Champ with an automatic berth. They will play one game for overall title. Winner gets the OIA #1 and a state seed. The loser will the OIA #2.
Then, I will take the remaining 10 teams (#2-#6 of each division). I will have the East #5 & West #6 and vice-versa have a play-in game. Then the winner of the #5 and #6 games will get the lowest seeds and will be fed into the East and West #2.
So basically it will look like this:
East #2 vs. Winner of West #5 or East #6
West #3 vs. East #4West #2 vs. Winner of East #5 or West 36
East #3 vs. West #4The top 3 teams from this elimination tournament gets the remaining 3 berths for the OIA.
I think the regular season should have far more merit versus getting hot in the final 1-2 weeks of a season (before states).
If you think the play-in game is unfair for the #5 and #6 teams because they have to play an extra game, then don't finish towards the bottom of your division.
