Well, its a little over a month until boys varsity practice begins and I can't wait!!! All the specualation will end and its time for teams to do their talking on the court.

Punahou, good luck with your new coach. I think Alika Smith is the best hire for Punahou. He replaces a loser as well as was chosen among a bunch of losers that was applying for the job. Good luck Alika! I hope the cry baby parents, whining administration and loser staff don't turn you into one of them.

Maryknoll, good luck with the new gym. I like your coach and the direction your team is headed. Let's just hope that the "1" in the hundred spot isn't lit up too often on the scoreboard this year <wink>.

Kamehameha, good luck with life after Pii, Auwae, Brandon and Blake. Sure you have Micah but let's hope he learns to create his own shot off the dribble because there is not much offense on that team after him. Chaz will be solid. Matayoshi needs an attitude check.

Iolani, good luck with the new coach and life after the Energizer Bunny (Warner). Hopefully this young team can learn real quick how to play with a bullseye on their chest. A real big bullseye.

Damien, oops...my bad, St. Damien, good luck with everything. New coach, new gym (kind of), new school name (kind of), same players, same attitude, same record.

St. Louis, good luck with your football players in basketball sneakers. If Umu doesn't play, it will be a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong season.

Mid Pac, good luck with life after Holyfield and Won. Actually, this year's team may be more competitive this year than previous. A lot of that has to do with the league as a whole with St. Louis, St. Damien, Maryknoll AND Punahou not as good as they previously were.

    Good luck to all!

Good luck to Coach Alika. Great basketball mind. Even better person.

Funny how there is so much negative talk about him before he's even had a chance to step on the floor at Punahou. In case you haven't noticed, he's not the only first year head coach in the ILH this season.

But then again, the inmates dont run the asylum at 'Iolani, so I'm not surprised!

Go Raiders! Imua! Oops. I meant One Team!

MikeHockisPhat, who are the loser candidates? I like know.

    Gary Pacarro
    Alan Ching
    Darren Matsuda
    Kekoa Taliafero
    Chick Hess

    Which one man?

    TESTIFY!

    Gary Pacarro - Loser
    Alan Ching - Loser
    Darren Matsuda - Loser
    Kekoa Taliafero - Loser
    Chick Hess - Loser

They didn't get the job. Alika did. And because the school didn't choose them, they are losers in my book. By the way, how do you know all of these guys applied? I'm not doubting that they did. Also, I know for a FACT that Mr. Taliafero didn't want the head coaching job. He wanted only to assist.

    TESTIFIED!

Coach Charles "Chic" Hess is AOP's New Head Coach and will make an Immediate Impact by making a Run and Contending for the ILH DII Crown.

Congratulations and Good Luck Coach Hess!

Moanalua, good luck with keeping Marcus happy (about 100 shots a game) and out of academic probation. Also, good luck with the new boy and keeping him in school. For his sake, thank goodness for Furlough Fridays. One less day he has to cut out from school.

Kahuku, good luck with life after Galeai. He sure made life easy for the spot up shooter Akina. Now, he will rely on bringing the ball up AND creating his own shot. Something that he is not good at doing.

Kaimuki, good luck with life after Tautofi. <ring ring> Hold on...telephone call. Hello? What? He might be coming back to Hawaii? Revised: good luck with getting Tautofi in uniform.

Kalaheo, good luck with the regular season. It was a tough summer league but hopefully with Fernandez back, wait a minute...did he even leave?...hopefully, there will be some W's coming your way.

Mililani, good luck with your team that did really well in the summer! Just so you know, the regular season is a whole different animal.

I AGREE WITH MIKE. BASKETBALL TALENT IN HAWAII HAS GOING WAY DOWN AND IS STILL GOING DOWN. THIS YEARS ILH IS GOING TO BE COMPETITIVE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF TALENT.
I MEAN LOOK AT PUNAHOU. LOSS KEY SCORES LIKE HILLIARD TOMA AND PRESENCE INSIDE WITH TE'O AND MAKAULA.
-IOLANI HAS LOST THERE ENERGIZER BUNNY PABLO WARNER.
-KAMEHAMEHA BASICALLY LOST THEIR TEAM AND MICAH IS A GOOD SHOOTER BUT HASN'T PROVEN HIMSELF TO BE A CREATOR AND ABLE TO CREATE HIS OWN SHOTS.
-MID-PAC HAS LOST THERE TWO OF THE BEST PLAYERS MID-PAC HAD, HOLYFIELD AND WON, WHO DID BASICALLY ALL THE SCORING, DRIBBLING, DEFENSE, REBOUNDING, ASSIST FOR THE WHOLE TEAM. THIS YEAR MID-PAC WILL FAIL WITH LACK OF LEADERSHIP AND PLAYERS LIKE THESE 2.
-ST. LOUIS LOSS THERE 4 KEY PLAYERS AND NOW BASICALLY HAVE FOOTBALLL PLAYERS WITH NO TALENT OF BBALL.
but i must say, with all the teams at the same talent; this year should be a interesting one.

P.S. can anyone tell me where gonsalves, mcClinton, warner, derego, and won went to attend college and if they are still playing ball for the school or anything.

To MikeHockisPhat - Talked to Kekoa last night in depth and he told me that your following comment is totally untrue, "Also, I know for a FACT that Mr. Taliafero didn't want the head coaching job. He wanted only to assist."

No offense, but I can't see one of my best friends going into a professional interview for a varsity head coaching position and wasting their time.

He told me he was very interested in being the next head coach. Please refrain from spreading untrue rumors.

    No offense taken.

Hmmm...your best friend huh? Thanks for that cookie.

As far as me spreading untrue rumours, I look at it this way: you have your story, I have mine. Bottom line is, Mr. Taliafero is NOT the head coach. He is now working for someone from the OUTSIDE of the school which I find totally unshocking since he is used to being the "boy" (Pronounced in a very southern drawl. Usually in the tone of a slave master) throughout his coaching career.

Let me ask you this Hoop, why aren't you coaching with your best friend at Punahou?

By the way, I wonder who's time was wasted? Punahou's or Mr. Taliafero?

Its good to know that the Punahou teams will be well-stocked with Menchies yogurt!

MikeHockisphat, what is your favorite Menchies flavor? I can make sure you get some freebies, haha.

As for coaching with Kekoa, I didn't know the assistant on varsity got to staff the program? He never asked me. If you want a more in depth answer, u can come to Manoa Gym today and I would love to tell u in person since you seem to be insinuating something. I'll be there are 3:30pm and I have no problem telling u if you want to hear.

Also calling him a "boy" is pretty harsh in my opinion. Especially for some person who has dedicated the last 9-10 years of his life for that program.

Hoop, Menchies is good stuff. I may have to take you up on that offer! Since Kekoa is one of your best friends, I bet you get all the yogurt you can handle. I need friends like yours...hehe!

10 years of dedication awarded with an outsider as your boss. Oahu College at its finest!

What's happening at Manoa? High school girls basketball perhaps?????????????????????????? Sorry, not quite my cup of tea.

Nah man, I am not into yogurt. I rather have the hot dogs at Orange Julius, haha.

Good point about 10 years of dedication. Well Punahou staffs its faculty with outsiders. It as if a Punahou ed-ju-mah-ca-shion isn't good enough for employment there, haha.

They have the Reebok Sharks Tournament at Manoa. I believe it's a boys tournament. I am probably going to watch the U17 game.

    Peace....

You're right. Referencing Mr. Taliaferro as "boy" was uncalled for. Especially since I think he is a straight up good guy doing it for the kids and not for personal glory.

I wish I made it out to Manoa this afternoon but as much as I don't like watching baseball, I found myself glued to the tv watching the World Series.

Hey, I may really take you up on that yogurt offer!

    Peace.

I'm thinking the Phillies don't have enough pitching to win. I kind of think both offenses are kind of similar. But after watching todays game on DVR, it seems that the Yankees look more like the defending champs, not the Phillies.

The Phillies didn't know who should cover 3rd base. The relief pitchers looked rattled and nervous. The Yankees are the ones who haven't been to the World Series much longer, but they look calm.

I think the Phillies will win tomorrow then get eliminated in the next game.

    Peace!
