yeah it was a good game but the ref's had a role in it besides teams making mistakes too many turn overs

mela540herman please explain your post. lopaka said that it was a good game. Did the officials’ play a major role in Waianae losing by one point? It appears that Waianae made the adjustments in the first half and Roosevelt made the adjustments in the second.

Would like to know what role the officials played in this hard fought battle between the two top teams in the OIA White.

da refs was jus calling bogus calls but it went both ways..first half refs went wit waianae wit most of their calls and second half most calls went to roosevelt..and waianae is a hot tempered team and very aggressive..so the refs wasnt dat much of an impact..it was the momentum of the GAME

I think the free throw attempts speak for itself.

    Roosevelt - 28 FT Attempts
    Waianae - 10 FT Attempts.

  6. Waianae was leading at halftime by 12. I saw the box score and it seemed pretty disprersed through the team. One thing I couldnt help but notice was some key players didnt really step up. Anthony Niederschmidt only had two points? Mike Foster 8? Im not saying they didnt do good, im just wondering why such an off shooting night. I didnt go to the game so can someone give me info about it. Thanks

Good point, HawaiiBasketbal ... Yes, the officiating played a big part of the outcome of the game. For example, there were more than a few times that the out of bounds possession went to Roosevelt when it clearly should have gone to Waianae.
All in all it was a good exciting game. Roosevelt's Center Pale is an excellent player and leader, and I believe Waianae did a great job minimizing his effectiveness. Hopefully, next time these teams meet, the officiating won't be such a factor ...

Hey mike23, I believe Anthony Niederschmidt fouled out of the game, and he and Foster both didn't take the 3 pt shots that they normally do. They played hard though ...

Great game by both teams last night. That is a game that makes me love coaching. Waianae is a really good team. They shoot the ball well and they run the floor as good as if not better than any team that we played all year. The kid Mendoza(sp.? sorry I dont have my book with me) is a great player. I was very proud of how my team didn't quit when we were down 17 or 18 points. And a lot of guys stepped up to fill a lot of minutes with Pale out. He ended up only playing a total of 13-14 minutes. The playoffs are going to be exciting.

Wow, another great change of events!!! Alot of teams steppin it up!! ( Nanakuli just beat Pearl City)

It must have been a great game, you guys cant take that away based on officials, or one sided calls. As lopaka puts it, "Roosevelt's star player PALE was in foul trouble", and as mike 23 says "some key players didn't really step up", and in the news print in shows B. Mitchell - Roosevelt, scored 20 points.

As far as official goes, yes, they do impact the outcome of the game, without them, there will be no game. Officials make and miss calls, it is all due to THEIR perspective of the game. A poor official is someone who is not up there with the action, one that is too lazy to run in a fast pace game, one that would miss an obvious call in front of him/her when their other two counterparts catch the error. Or worse yet, and official that lets the game get out of hand that a fight breaks out, be it players, parents, or fans, which is not worth it.

Enjoy the sport, anything can happen, that's why the players play, If Roosevelt came out with an attitude that since they lost to Kalani, they will lose to Waianae, no sense they play, just forfiet, right? But it comes out to who is willing to step up, put their heart and soul into the game, and give it all they got to capture a win.

Hey RooseveltCoach, just wondering what happened several times during the game when one of your players just walked off of the court? No timeout, no injury timeout, just walked out of the game. Please share ...

Not quite sure what you are talking about. I know that my PG, Delos Santos walked off the court under the basket because his knee gave out. Other than that I don't remember anyone just walking off the court. Please be more specific about when. I would have to go back to the film to see but I really don't remember anytime other that him getting hurt. I know that it took the refs a little while to see that he was hurt because he was over by the wall.

    RooseveltCoach:
Didn't Delos Santos step away from the court in the 3rd period also? Anyway, we thought that he had gotten hit in the head, but the main thing is that he is alright.

Yes, we're all looking forward to a very exciting play-off! Good game coach!

It was a good game and fun to watch. It just killed me to watch The officials take The game out of The players and coaches hands.

thats true the officials were making stupid calls and not caolling them against pale, waianae went to him always being bumped by him but no foul and so many reach ins by roosevelt i couldnt believe they werent called. thats what i think why they won bye one.

In spite of the officiating, Waianae boys played a good hard game. They played with a lot of heart and class ... Very proud of them and their performance!

I think Waianae did play with a lot of heart, but Class I don't know about. #21 got into it with the Roosevelt kid for a jump ball. Uncalled for. He also kicked the Roosevelt scorers table for no reason. Uncalled for. He also taunted the Roosevelt boys all nite long. Uncalled for. I know that there is a lot of trash talking in the game and thats part of the game, but I think he was trying to be a bully. I think what led to their defeat was the lack of patience in the second half and a few rushed shots. A lot of the calls that were made were all legitimate calls. Maybe a missed call here and there but nothing that shouldn't have impacted the game that much. Just my opinion.

Mike23, you mean you're not a Waianae player? Dang, had me fooled...

Hoopsdelight, it's all a matter of perspective.
You're right, there is no excuse for kicking the scorers table, that kind of behavior is not condoned. I believe it was frustration mainly due to the inconsistent whistle.
Anyway, now the boys know that they have to win a game outright, regardless if the officiating goes against them or not.
Btw, even one or two missed calls in a game won by 1 point, does make a world of difference ...

You know what's uncalled for? Roosevelt fans making racist comments towards the 3 Caucasian kids on Waianae, Anthony Niederschmidt, Christian Mendonza, and Michael Foster. THAT is uncalled for. Have some class there Roosevelt fans.

@mela: they cant call a foul jsut becuz of a bump... its a mans game!!

  22. I didnt go to the game which really pissed me off. And then I hear of racist comments towards the Waianae players?! This is uncalled for! I really believe that Waianae is the best white division team out there and that Roosevelt just lucked out. I think foul trouble for Waianae played a huge role in this game seeing that Roosevelt shot 28 free throws and Waianae only 10. One sided calls if you ask me. Other than that good job to Roosevelt for finding a way to come back and pull out a W. Good luck to all teams in the playoffs!

If our fans did make racist remarks, then they are not the fans that I want at our games. I find it hard to believe that our TRUE fans would do that since I am one of the few WHITE coaches in the state. But, I would like to apologize if any of the players felt they had racist remarks to them. Like I said before, great game by Waianae. They are truly a good team and have some real good players.

You know what is no class? #21 going through the hand shakes at the end of the game and making sure he told each player "You got lucky scrubs". Then calling out Kaipo to fight (some of the kids were pissed off because of that). The very same #21 who kicked the scores table and tried to start a fight during the game. If the refs had biased calls then geez...maybe they should have T'd him up a couple times. Huh, they even slammed the ball on the ground. Automatic tech right? Guess not. Classy Waianae.
