Yeah a few buddies of mine from O'ahu saw Mid Pac play during the preseason and said they looked like a real contender..what is going on with them??
Posted 1 month ago # -
Congratulations Crusaders. Next year they will be a team to reckon with...
Coach Viena = Cool bruddah

is it the coaching?
cause I heard from many people that there mid pac coaching isnt too well. They have talent its just not there for mid pacPosted 1 month ago # -
I was at one game and the tall haole coach seemed like he was trying to punk a kid on the other team. after that the kids on his team got punky started throwing elbos got some tecs and lost it. so that might be coaching

I think Swanson plays hard. He is one of
the top centers in the state. Any coach would want a kid who plays hard, can rebound, score inside, rebound, and bring a physical presence. I have seen him play about 8 tomes this season. I have never thought he did anything dirty, just physical.Posted 1 month ago # -
they do go hard. but even the time i saw them win they don't look like their having fun.HF you guys even in a loss still have guys having fun??

I believe that MPI has some issues from within. I think that they are caught up in between hype and talent. Coaching maybe suspect, players may have attitudes, parents maybe disgruntled, who knows? I think when it comes down to it, Coach Hu needs to refocus on all the positives and never mind about the negatives. I think he needs to open up his mind about basketball and try new things. It doesn't have to be the same way every time especially since their losing. I'm not a genius or a rocket scientist by any means but I know for a fact after playing basketball for many years and with the talent that they have that they need to play and have fun plain and simple. Take the pressure off the kids and let em have fun. Sorry had to vent a little.

Thought both teams played hard last night. Matthews threw down a 1 handed power dunk, which was pretty amazing. Swanson played tough. Although Kurihara missed the free throws in OT that could have sent the game into another OT, he still played great and hit some big shots for the owls. In the end, the crusaders came out the W, way to go saints!

I think majoirty of it has to do with coaching although some of the blame has to be put on the players. I think MPI's best talent are swanson and kurihara. If you all didn't know kurihara dropped 29 points last night! one problme they have is that matthews is playing on the outside instead of the inside. He's like what 6'4.. he should get his ass down on the bottom but instead he's on the outside dribbling which makes no sense. In my opinion MPI just aint gonna do it this year... i dont think they'll even come close!

I'd like to see MPI run a double post set and use some high-low action.

How do you figure Kurihara scored 29 points? The paper says 27...i was also told he scored 29 by one of the coaching staff, so you're either one of the staff or someone with access to MPI's score book. Either way, you must be affiliated with MPI...so why you always bad mouthing them?
Posted 1 month ago # -
im not affiliated with MPI in anyway.
I am a friend of a dad who has a son on the team.
My son goes to kalani so get facts b4 u try questioning me!Posted 1 month ago # -
balla-
My bad, i had to ask. I was at the game as well and had no idea Kurihara scored that much. I knew it was 20+ but that's it. I guess the dad you know kept score. Like i said, i had to ask in order to find out...
btw, was it you or your son that dropped 35 on the Kaiser kids, that's pretty impressive for anyone, much less a 5'6" guard

What's the hype about mid pac anyway? Where did the hype come from? From the Star Bulletin preseason top 10 picks? Come on. They are starting with a fresh team being that they were senior heavy last year. And who knows these players and their skills the best? The coaches, not the biased parents. Matthews can't play on in the inside like everyone wants him to regardless of his size. Did you see him play against Maryknoll in the post? He couldn't, even though the Maryknoll guy was under 6 feet! And really, how deep is the Mid Pac bench? It's NEVER that deep...it's Mid Pac. More than half of these players wouldn't even make the other top 3 ILH teams. You do the best that you can do with what you got.
The bottom line is in order for Mid Pac to win, the culture has to change. You never see an Iolani, Kamehameha, or Punahou team play only to "have fun". They play to win. They have a tradition of winning. Mid Pac players and parents need to have that attitude or nothing will change, REGARDLESS of who is coaching. If you want to play to have fun, go to your neighborhood park. If you want to compete, then have some balls and play like you have nothing to lose everyday. That's how it was back in the day when I was playing. As long as the kids think it's ok to lose, then that's what they will keep doing. They have to own some of the responsibility of losing such close games. The numerous and costly turnovers, missed shots and free throws, and dumb fouls are not coaching mistakes. And the fact that they have no guards (except maybe Kurihara) that can take care of the ball doesn't help the situation.
And no, I have no affiliation to Mid Pac. I am Punahou alumni. Just feel bad for all the Mid Pac bashing, especially for the coaches who I am sure are not purposely sabotaging the team.

Seriously? Who was you AP teacher at Punahou?
Posted 1 month ago # -
doscajones...
your basically bashing on MPI too... ur say and assuming the mpi players aren't playing to win and have a mindset to lose... im pretty sure all the players want to win.. i mean hu doesnt!!!! if they wanted to lose they woulndt even be on the team
and coming back to matthews... hes 6'4 he needs to be on the inside.. dude cant take everyone off the dribble.. he aint that goodPosted 1 month ago # -

You still haven't answered the question...how did you find out Kurihara had 29 points? Were you at the game? Why are you avoiding the question? I'm trying to get my facts straight, but you are making it difficult.
Earlier, you said that your son goes to Iolani, now he's at Kalani? Or do you have two sons? You also mentioned that you were a 4 year varsity letterman at SF, yet you're only 5'6"? why the contradictions?
Posted 1 month ago # -
are you dumb... there is no contradiction from me being a 4year varsity letterman and me being 5'6.... u make no sense at all!
and yes i have 2 sons 1 at kalani and 1 at iolani and i told u.... i heard from my sons frends dad that was at the gamen wow u really remember everything.. almost like ur STALKING ME!
Posted 1 month ago # -
are you sure you're an adult? Most adults on this website don't abbreviate like a high school "text messager".Not to mention you obviously played against some of the Kaiser players (saying that you dropped 30+ on them). Are you sure you're a father of two high school boys? hmmm
By the way, if you actually could comprehend, the contradiction had nothing to do with you playing 4 years, but that you played SMALL FORWARD (hence the SF) But you already knew what that meant, right? And you're calling me dumb?
How convenient, you forgot to mention that you had 2 sons in your previous post. So i guess your son's friend's dad actually kept score for all the mid pac players eh? That's the only way he could have known that Kurihara scored 29 points - like i said, i was at that game, and nobody around me knew the boy's exact total. I found out (obviously wrong) from the coaching staff after the game because i was curious.
wow, you really DON'T remember much...almost like you're making stuff up.

wow gymfighter your just a waste of my fucken time.. this is a blog site to talk about sports and here u are trying to interrogate people like ur a fbi agent.. this is a SPORTS blog talk about sports!!!! not balla4life list how many kids he has and where they go.. this is not a site to find out info about me!!!
n wow i think ur trying to stalk me cuz ur like remembering every little detail i sed... i think i should call the cops on you!!!Posted 1 month ago # -
Listen kid, the bottom line is that you are NOT who you say you are. I did not ask you how many kids you had, you volunteered that info on this blog yourself. In fact, all the information i listed has been posted by you, yourself.
It is obvious that you have an agenda with the MPI coaches and certain players on the team. Otherwise you would not start posts about them when you "have no affiliation" with the program as you say. Many of the coaching staff are friend's of mine who bleed and sweat for Mid-Pac. I'm tired of your countless bashings, that's all.
You constantly write that MPI should be contenders, then go on to say that they don't have much in the way of players. Worse still, you blame a majority of this on the coaching. You blame the coaches for poor substituting, but are the first to say that they don't have players to begin with. If you have no "players" as you say, does POOR substituting even come into play? I guess if you have a bunch of scrubs, subbing them a certain way will create a winner...if you're going to bash the coaching staff, then at least have the guts to explain why they do such a poor job. Otherwise, i'm inclined to trust their wealth of experience over yours, unless you know something i don't.
How many games have you been to? It sounds like you get a recap from your parent friend and then post your opinions. Or are you there at the games? Obviously your sons (if you have any) don't play ball because you never post about Kalani, and are always trying to find out how Iolani did. No, your agenda and bias is with MPI even though you have no affiliation. I come on this site to talk basketball and already know that you're going to start a post about Mid-Pac or chime in on one in a derogatory way.
Once again, i'm not asking to find out who you are. You volunteered all the info when you opened your mouth on this blog. I'm upset because you constantly bash Mid Pac basketball, so you must have some type of agenda against someone involved in the program.
My advice to you:
1) if you don't want people to bury you, stop posting erroneous information about yourself
2) if you have beef with the coaching staff at MPI, call the AD and submit your application
3) stop constantly bashing the same players and coaches. Players don't get paid to play, coaches not nearly enoughPosted 1 month ago # -
who are u anyway gym fighter... why dont you tell me instead of hiding behind a computer and a screen name.
first i can start post about any team i want... this is a sports blog site smart one! and your pretty much stalking me for knowing every single thing abut me and what i post. Another thing is my iolani son quit basketball and my other son is only on JV so why would i talk about JV.
ive been to quite a few MPI games fyi. the subbing is bad because when swanson starts doing good or kurihara is doing good coach hu always takes them out. another this is that dobovon kid(sp?) is starting and always in at end of games. My problem you ask? He can shoot or score(from the games ive seen) and he always makes turnovers when the game is on the line so it seems like hes being rewarded for making mistakes. anothing this is the coaches need to put matthews in the inside instead of the outside!!!!!
another thing is im not bashing on them... im stating my opinion in which i have a right to!!!Posted 1 month ago #
