    Division 1 (for now)

    ILH
    1. Iolani
    2. Punahou
    3. Kamehameha
    4. Mid Pac
    5. Maryknoll
    6. St. Louis
    7. Damien

Iolani is very good with some serious depth. The dropoff from the 1st unit to the 2nd as well as the 3rd isn't much, which means that defensive pressure that Iolani is so known for will be coming after teams wave after wave after wave. Punahou is close as far as talent, but does not come close to Iolani as far as bball IQ. Still a very dangerous team. Kamehameha is the defending champs and returns key players but not quite enough to repeat as ILH/State champs.

    OIA (Div 1)
    1. Moanalua
    2. Mililani
    3. Kahuku
    4. Kaimuki
    5. Aiea
    6. Farrington
    7. Kalaheo
    8. McKinley
    9. Campbell
    10. Kapolei

If Desmond Tautofi was returning I would have placed Kaimuki at the 1 or 2 spot. Yes, he is that valuable. Mililani isn't as big as they were a few years ago when they won the OIA title but they are very athletic and quick. Kahuku has sharpshooter Akina back and some big Polynesians but won't go as far as last year's team. Moanalua has a very experienced senior squad led by Marcus Monroe. With Tacon at the helm, they are my favorites to win the OIA and a seeded spot at the state tourney.

Big Island peeps, feel free to post your predictions!!!

Thanks and have a great week!

I have a feel for other things as well! Later today I will breakdown every team in the ILH..and then later the OIA.

NOTE: I used last year's teams that were in the OIA Red. Not sure who is in again and who is out. Thanks.

Maybe laulau can add something to the mix. It won't be that intelligent, but it will be humorous....

Ed..yes, Damien did win games during the summer. They are also known to win some games during preseason. Their problem is that they play their regular season in the ILH, arguably the toughest league in the state.

BBJ, who argues that the ILH isn't the toughest league in the state? I'd like to meet this person.

    I won't argue with you.

In fact, I won't argue with the refs either, this season.

HF...would the WAC have a say in this? Actually I stand corrected. The ILH is even tougher than the WAC.

Here is my picks for the BIIF. However, these are subject to change.

    1. Hilo- They are now heavily favored with the acquisition of Shintani and Allen, but how will they fit into Hilo's game plan? Where will Shintani play with Scottie Wong already playing his position? How will Allen keep up with the uptempo style? (kind of like the "Nellie Ball" of our league if you may) Getting those 2 transfers also puts even more pressure on Hilo to win this year.

    2. St. Joseph- being a D2 team people will think that I am definitely going out on a limb here. However, they're performance in the NJB Summer League was outstanding. With role players getting better, and they're starting 5 even better than last year they are looking really tough. They're Princeton style offense is still a mystery on how to guard...aside from just zoning up. Then you face their deadly 3 point shooting from Ohara-Saft, Scanlan-Leite, Andrade, and even Monberg. Also, being by far the hardest working team in the league is a huge reason they have so much potential, along with great coaching. They will definitely be making A LOT of noise this year....trust me.

    3. Waiakea- The losses of Allen and Shintani will definitely hurt them. However, they still keep in tact a solid bench that will do a fine job replacing those two, and look for Isaak Janado to step into Shintani's role and play big for Waiakea this season.

    4. Kamehameha- A young, but extremely talented Kamehameha team will do fine this year. The addition of Shaun Kagawa will definitely help them out big time as they add an athletic wing with him. The question for them though, is who is going to hit threes and outside shots? Look for teams to play a lot of zone against them this year if they don't fix their biggest flaw.

    5. Kohala- With Bautista in his final year Kohala will most likely finish 2nd in D2 to St. Joes and 5th overall. However, St. Joe's beating them still isn't going to be an easy task. Their press is still tough with a quick young team and Bautista leading the charge. However, their lack of height will definitely hurt them a lot, especially against Thomas Fairman at 6'5" for St. Joes, with Kohala's next tallest player barely scrapping 5'10."

    6. Pahoa- The three keys for them this year are, Isaiah Ekau, point guard play, and Isaiah Ekau. Losing Sheyten Waters and John Viernes is a huge blow to the Daggers. However, if, (and this is a huge IF), Ekau can keep his grades up he will make a lot of noise. He is one of the most athletic players this league has seen by far with that kind of height...aside from maybe Wes Cabreros. Also with a new coach coming in how will the team adjust? Not having a true point guard will hurt them as well, look for a lot of full court pressure against Pahoa this year. Still having John Byrd and Isaiah Ekau will give them one of the biggest front lines in the BIIF.....and you can't teach height. If those flaws are fixed they could easily move anywhere between 6 and 2 in BIIFs.

    7. Keaau- The loss of Tume Jackson is huge for them. They will struggle this year with having no primary offensive weapon. If they want to move up in the BIIF it will most likely have to be from tough defense. On offense the creativity of Richie Handy will cause a lot of match up problems for everyone. Haku Ishibashi is a great ball handler, but he does tend to over dribble a lot. Either he can be a wizard on offense or a dud....he is a shoot or miss kind of player right now, and being a senior that is most likely not going to change.

.........those are my top 7 in the BIIF.

Thanks for the assessment of the BIIF. I see your top 7 does not include any Kona teams...is this a down year for Konawaena?

It will be a down year for Konawaena and Kealakehe.

Kona lost around 5 seniors and are going to struggle this year as they are in a rebuilding process. They have some younger talent, however, they are not ready for the varsity level yet. Coach Donnie always makes sure they play hard so they will win some games here and there for sure this year. Look for them to step back in the picture not this year, but the year after.

Kealakehe also loses a few seniors. One of them being first team BIIF I believe, Naia Ursua. The strength, athleticism, and basketball IQ of Naia is a huge blow to the Waveriders. They also lose a couple big men, since they have graduated. Their biggest loss is going to be BIIF second team John Ursua. As a freshman last year, he was easily the top freshman in the league. At only 5'8" he could dunk easily. His athletic ability is through the roof. He also can hit outside shots, and has a deadly first step. They also lose him as well this year since the whole Ursua family has moved to Utah. Kealakehe will be very thin this year, and their next top player, Thomas Naehu, will have a huge load to carry.

    Obiwanginobili,
I see 6 of your top 7 teams are from the East side of the island. I agree with you on all of those teams. any predictions on the West side of the island? what about a All-BIIF team?

The West side is a lot weaker this year than the East so I decided to just do an in-depth ranking of the overall standings that I believe will most likely happen.

Here are my picks for the West Side this year.

    1. Kohala
    2. Honoka'a
    3. Konawaena
    4. HPA
    5. Kealakehe
    6. Parker
