St. Joes in a close one

I got Waiakea. They will be prepared, at least I hope so. If they are not prepared St. Joe will pull it off.

When is the game?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Tomorrow night and I believe its St. Joes home game at the Civic.

I got St. Joe by 10....It all depends on if St. Joe can rebound and shut down Waikeas big men though...If St. Joe's rebounds and hits there open shots nobody in the BIIF can beat them....

Waiakea High by 5pts. The M&M brothers come to play and play hard they will. That's Mattos and Morante folks. But it's gonna how the guards play for WHS defensively. JHS will play their disciplined offense. Though call on this one. I usually will go with St Joe's but not tonight.
And it's Keaau over Hilo tonight!

Me like St. Joe AND Waiakea 4-OT's...to tired to finish game...tie tie!
OG in da house bright an early!!!!!!
May the best team win "that night".
Nah, I tink if Waiakea can contain Andrade, waiakea stays in the game and wins by 7 (with free-throws in the end).
If St. Joe gets Andrade going, it'll be a long night for Waiakea....Cards by 14.
But what do I know?!

I think it will be another great game, but once again Andrade is coming off of a huge performance...very rare for high school athletes to put up back to back numbers like that. He went from 44 to 10 to 37 to ? If St Joe can't find other scoring options, the will struggle as they did against Keeau. I believe Morante and Mattos will be too much for just Fairman. With the two "big men" for the Warriors playing well, Fairman can't guard both. Cards will be forced to sit in the zone and Waiakea has many offensive options from there. Warriors by 7.

I like the fact that both squads are smart and have the ABILITY to PLAY smart. It's a matter of who's gonna be patient, composed and (in a funny twist) aggressive.
Here's another debate. We know the coaches cannot play but their influence and guidance plays a big role. The VOCAL edge goes to Paul Lee. I sense the refs mistake his passion for something else. This guy plays and coaches intense and demands respect from his team. He's no baby sitter! A very good up and coming coach.
Coach Harry, I believe that at this very moment he is the best coach in the league. With the talent in his first 6 players and inexperienced bench, he gets the most out of his men. He may not be loud, but he will make this point known. What do expect from a coach who worked and played along side the Late Hamilton Manely.
The anticipation alone is killing me.

It's gonna be a good one. I think Waiakea has enough fast little ones to keep up with Andrade if need be,and the 2 BIGs in blue should be able to handle Fairman in the paint.

SHOOTZbrah I like the name. I think the key to Waiakea's victory is 1) Disrupt Will Scanlen's ability to run the offense by playing pressure defense on him, 2) Play hard nose defense on Andrade, not allowing him to get open looks as Hilo did, 3) play solid straight up D on Fairman, and try your best to contain his drop steps and spin moves, let him try and beat you with short contested turn around jumpers, 4) but most of all play patient defense, which may be the biggest key to victory. St. Joe runs their offense really well and is very patient, and waits for a team to get overly aggressive or anxious, which then the D makes a mistake and St. Joe takes full advantage of this mistake scoring easy lay ups and open jumpers.

Thanks, good points and yes they do RUN that offense well. key word-RUN. I saw the Hilo game and they out did Hilo. To say the least. But as you stated and if Waiakea plays diciplined they can get it done.

this should be a good game. two very good teams. i think waiakea wins a very close game. but who knows. that's why they play the game.

St Joes 64-55

St. Joe's guards will be too much for Waiakea. Hard to see them matching up with Andrade and Scanlan-Leite. If St. Joes hits shots it's over. Mattos and Morante will be tough for St. Joes to match up with, but in their 2-3 zone I think they will be able to get enough help down low. I'm still not sold on Waiakea's guard play, Hilo made their guards look like all stars out there, and I think that St. Joes will hold them well in check on defense. If Waiakea is going to win they will have to dominate on the boards. That is the only clear cut advantage they have.

Leite-Scanlan, Andrade and Fairman VS.
Mattos, Morante and Libao.
Of course both teams have a good supportive cast of teammates.

Man I'm getting really anxious for this game now...If St. Joe's offense is clicking things could get ugly quick for Waiakea...And if St. Joe's shoots like they did against Kea'au it could get ugly too...lol...but i highly doubt that happens again...

Once St. Joe gets the lead, it will force Waiakea to play their style of basketball. Fairman will be able to handle both Waiakea big men if St. Joe stays in a zone. Waiakea's best chance is to get Fairman in foul trouble.

St Joe played a good game and pulled it off at the end.. Waiakea just couldn't get over the hump..
Posted 2 years ago # -
Waiakea played tough....didn't pull off the win but they played tough!! Fairman is a tree, he just can't be stopped. Great job to both teams.

Okay, my prediction did not pan out. There you have it! The admittance of failure. That's what makes this blog fun.
