As the State Tournament lies upon us, looks like there will be a very balanced and very interesting State bracket to come.

    Lets see:

Here is what I think will happen. But there are alot of games pending so don't kick me in my face if I get it off track.

    First Round Matchups

    Punahou vs Campbell
    Mililani vs Farrington
    Kahuku vs Maui
    Kamehameha vs Big Island

    Byes:
    Iolani #1/2 seed
    Moanalua # 1/2 seed
    Big Island # 3 seed
    Maui # 4 seed

Sometimes the bracket is bias due to they automatic give the top 4 seeds to the league champion rather then rate them from 1 to whatever. Example some years the advertisers poll would have 2 teams from the ILH ranked 1-2 respectively and at the state tournament who ever is the no#2 team from the ILH will go in the state tournament unseeded......Thats BS, so then you got the 3rd rated team in the tournament facing the #2 rated team in the advertiser poll in the quarterfinals rather then the semi-finals

@MJ23, honestly i don't have any first hand knowledge of the ILH D2 schools but from what i've been told they aren't as good as the OIA's D2...Now that could be completely off but it's the consensus right now and i'm pretty sure that's how the people who make the brackets are going to see it...The only reason I have University above Seabury is because Seabury's strength of schedule is even worse..lol...but in all honesty if you were to rank them on perceived talent alone then Seabury could be as high as #1.... but since they haven't faced any tough opponents it's really hard to judge them...

Does anyone have predictions on D-1 winners in the 1st round and match-ups for quarters?

    My Mock DII Bracket:

    Quarterfinals:
    #1 St. Joe's vs. Kapaa
#4 University vs. Kailua (OIA #2)
#2 Roosevelt vs. AOP (ILH #2)
    #3 Seabury Hall vs. Pahoa

As a seeded league champion, IMO you would want to stay away from a quarterfinal match up with the OIA #2. Also, Pahoa would be an athletic match up problem for most teams.

Now that its a 8 team championship does anyone know if the 'unseeded' league champion (most likely Kapaa from the KIF) must match up with the lowest seeded team?

    @ HIFan,

I don't know much about the DII schools and who is in or out or even how good they are..but from what I heard (which prolly don't mean much)...

If that is the DII field of state tournament teams (and only 8 make it?)...I don't see why St. Joe wouldn't be at-least "in" the championship game, if not win it easily...put it this way, if they don't at-least get to the championship it will be disapointing (with only a field of 8)and with schools that are not much talked about (besides a little about Roosevelt).

I agree with you Luna86, St. Joe's are the favorites but there are several really good teams that don't get talked about much here...One being Seabury Hall...They are really tall, i think they only have a couple guys under 6ft, and are pretty good skill wise also..The only thing about them is they haven't played against high level competition..That might be their downfall at states....Roosevelt is really good too...Same with Waianae and Kailua....Pahoa is going to shock a lot of people at states i think...They are tall and athletic and play a very stingy zone D...If who ever they play doesn't have good outside shooters they are in for a long night...

    @ mrtirade,

I think Kamehameha goes into the 3rd place ILH tournament between the rest of the ILH schools such as Damien, St. Louis, Marynoll (sp)...and maybe a couple others...alot of people expected either one (Kam or Pun) to take 3rd anyway with that field left...but who knows?

I expect a Warrior vs Dragon "play in game"

If Kamehameha doesn't win the third seed that would be the biggest upset of the season easily....But that's why the play the game...

    i want kamehameha to get
3rd seed so they can play honokaa
    and beat them to,.....

I don't know Honoka'a looked really good against Kealakehe...Of course Kealakehe looked really tired for some reason...But Honoka'a did a good job at guarding Naehu...And also if Honoka'a is hitting outside shots, 3's especially, they are a very dangerous team because then the defense has to come out and guard Lorenzo and Vallente at the perimeter...And those two guys can beat guys off the dribble and get up around the rim...

Not to mention Honoka'a usually has some pretty favorable refs at their home games...lol...

But yeah Kam would still be the favored...

Do they still send ILh refs to the Big Island for the game. I remember when I was coaching in the ILH they told us that since the game is there that the ILH would send 2 officials to the game. Is it still like that or do they only use Big Island refs? Or did they ever send ILH refs to the game? Maybe I was just given some wrong info.

Oh i'm not sure..that's a good question...I doubt they are going to send refs though due to the recession/budget cuts and what not...

I remember last year when Punahou came down to play Kamehameha (Hawaii) for that "play in game to the states"...they only had local BIIF officials.

If I was the 3rd place ILH team heading to the big island, I would demand league representation from 2 refs.

Do the outer island leagues send refs to states? Just wondering...If not i can't see them allowing the ILH to have refs travel to the Honoka'a game...
