Aloha Gang! Summer league is upon us and there are a plethora of leagues and games happening around town. Please feel free to post any and all scores from the leagues and games you attend. Off the top of my head, here are some schools that are running summer leagues:

    Iolani - Varsity boys
    Kalaheo - Varsity, JV boys
    Kaimuki - Varsity boys
    Pearl City - JV boys

Please add any league that I missed.

    Aloha!

    Iolani Boys Summer League:

Punahou beat Damien by double digits - Punahou missing majority of their returning players from last season due to basketball camp on Maui

Iolani takes down MPI by 20+ (mostly in the second half) Both teams missing key players

Did not see the final outcome of defending state champion Kamehameha against Maryknoll. Both teams return some notable faces from last season

Iolani's senior team captains Kainoa Chu and Andrew Skalman are also attending the basketball camp on Maui.
Iolani's roster has every player listed as a returnee from last season and I believe only four seniors when you include JC and Jarrett.

I have a copy of the Kalaheo Boys Summer League if anyone would like to create a web spreadsheet/page. Or I could just type it out and post it/e-mail a doc.

    Please advise.

I happened to catch Punahou's game last night against Mid Pac (a close one with the Puns coming out on top by 4) and noticed there were only three returnees (Crabb, Buckner, and Dowsett). Any word on the other players if they're returning? I heard rumors that a few players were seriously considering not returning but it seems this happens every year with Punahou. Anyone know anything about that?

a little birdie told me that mcfadden will play division 2, henry is not playing, taylor is not playing, and crabb is on the fence.

that little birdie was correct according to my sources as well. punahou is small with the exception of deforest buckner and malik johnson, but they are speedy, athletic, and know how to score. if taylor crabb plays this year, punahou will be better than last season. if he doesn't, they are in huge trouble.

Talking with a Punahou basketball parent whom had mentioned concern that Cassidy will not play next season and that Johnson and Buckner will concentrate on Punahou football then Punahou basketball after football meaning that a later start for both.

Sounds like Matt Feldman (whom seems to be very focus and determined this summer) is going to be a starter for Punahou next season.

I had to tell that parent that "I wouldn't count Punahou out."

From what i've heard, Henry Cassidy and Josh Taylor are likely concentrate on volleyball this season and Taylor Crabb is on the fence, but is playing summer league. Hopefully these boys decide to play as Punahou would have a pretty strong team if all their boys return

Hey twocents, don't post in code, just say what you want to say. I know how to speak in code, so your post is clearly your attempt to get someone to post a comment about a coach you don't like. If that's not your motive then your post is just plain weird. There must be around 24 teams participating at Iolani so who do you want to single out?

Have not seen Iolani yet, but my people tell me that they look great. Pretty much expected that with all of the kids who are back.

How about Kalaheo, 0-2 vs The Puns! Is the run coming to an end?

My last question is; what is a Hawaiian Punch and Honolulu King?

Hey Hawaii Hoops, what's the chances of getting results from Iolani? Maybe one of the 100 Iolani parents who post here could help us out.

    @backpick

HP and HK are traveling teams from my understanding. I believe they are compromised of players from both ILH and OIA schools.

In regards to the 0-2 start vs. Punahou (Blue/Gold), the team (Kalaheo) is very young and inexperienced. I believe that we have one player from last year's team who saw extended playing time during the season. Of course, this is not to take any credit away from either of the Punahou teams. Both played very well. The latter performing exceptionally well in transition, on the break, and in a half court jump m2m.

There is a lot of room for improvement. The window for coaching instruction this summer is most likely closed with the exception of in game commentary.

Even without Fernandez, my limited and honest opinion dissuades me from counting them out so early however. I have all the faith in the world that coach Furtado/Marciel/Kav & staff can keep them in the O.I.A. hunt.

It should be noted that I am partial towards Kalaheo having worked with the boys and coaching staff. Value my comments as you will. I just wanted to answer your questions and offer my take.
