Isn't Micah Christenson coming back for Kamehameha Kapalama? I thought he was a Jr.?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Saint Louis should be coming up more than half of their roster this year were underclassmen. Kam returns, Christensen, Enos (soph),Matayoshi and Tang. Iolani still will be up there along with Punahou.

As for the ILH:
Punahou (Up)- Returns Buckner, Johnson and has a very good JV squad that basically won every regular season game by double-digits.
Kamehameha (Up) - Returns Christneson, Matayoshi, Enos and Tang. JV squad was very competitive as well.
'Iolani (Up) - Returns everyone except Chu, Arakawa, Foy and Skalman. JV team finished second behind Puns.
St. Louis (Up) - Returns almost everyone on the team.
Mid Pac (Flat) - They return Matthews.
Maryknoll (Flat) - They have a great gym.
Damien (Down) - They lose almost everyone but return two of their bigs. Not sure if the coach returns.

Maryknoll has Velencia (sat out this year) and an African-American player for next year. Hopefully that will help them.

Hoop, are you implying that they may be good because they have an African-American player? Are you stereo-typing? Or just typing with your stereo on?
Posted 2 years ago # -
I was told he was pretty good. If he was Asian-American, then I would have wrote he was Asian-American or Portuguese-American or so on.
You know the stereo is always on.

Okay...just thought maybe you were implying that he was good just because he was African-American! Hahahahaahaha! LOL!

Ok, since someone started this thread, I'll give my opinion...just for fun so nobody get mad at me.
#1 Punahou – Buckner and Johnson will return and the team will have learned the lessons of losses this year. Expect an undefeated season.
#2 Kamehameha – Micah will continue to be the base of a strong team. If only Punahou didn’t have the combo of Buckner and Johnson, Warriors would dominate.
#3 Iolani – Losing Chu and other seniors will hurt more than you think. I may be wrong about this one. It all depends on Tulonghari taking charge and Vega getting physical. These guys could very well return as number 1 or 2.
#4 St Louis – Losing an athlete like Marcus Umu and play maker like Mika Wong will be hard to overcome. Every team has a few guys that are not really talented ballers, but they’re on the team because they can hack their opponents and get them off their games. At STL that player has been Jaris. His graduation won’t be noticed because they have a new freshman bruiser, Reeves. I give them #4 because they have some good talent on JV that might make a difference next year. If no one comes up from JV then I'd drop them to number 6.
#5 Mid Pac – The problem this year is Coaching. If changes are not made then they’ll have another bad year in the bottom 3. Losing Swanson is going to devastate this team. Matthews won’t fill his shoes because, although he’s built like a high school post player, he always seems to be at the guard position. I only put them at 5 because Maryknoll and Damien are likely to have worse seasons.
#6 Maryknoll – Hard to say on this one. Their biggest problem has been at the guard position. Next year it will be the post. They’re losing Jacob Mayor to graduation. That’s a huge loss for these guys. Also, I’m sure their 6’3” freshman is going to be somewhere else next year. Recruiting in the ILH is dog-eat-dog. Unless they have someone coming up from JV, they’re going to have another bad year.
#7 Damien – They’ll be like New Orleans after Katrina. The whole community is screaming for the coach’s head because of their Senior Night disaster and other drama. That along with losing players to graduation will put this team at the bottom of the ILH.
Remember, just for fun.

I disagree with you on this one. Raiders will repeat!!
Posted 2 years ago # -
@rdr whoa now...itz too soon to say...i mean even this year ILH Champs was real close btwn Kamehameha, Iolani & Puns...but eh since Iolani is my skul, imma still say they gotta real gud chance of repeating

The African American that will be at Maryknoll, Tobias, played with their intermediate team that placed #3 this year. The 6'3 freshman, Nua (think that's how its spelled) is planning on being back as well as having two other consistent players coming up from intermediate. Should be a good season!

You can NEVER count out the 3 top ILH schools
Posted 2 years ago # -
@afmom, if this kid Tobias is any good, then why was he only on intermediate this year? And how good is your info on your freshman returning? I just can't see him staying in that program. My guess is he'll be at another D1 school looking for him to be a factor as a Junior because of the 1 year sit-out rule.

Welll walker im tobias and im only an 8th grader lol but next year youll have to see because as a freshman i will be on vars. and i will be starting so if you really think that come watch me play and that opinion of yours will change but im glad you set that opinion

Tobias, thanks for the message. Now it makes sense. I hope you do well next year. But I still think you're gonna have it tough with no big men. You're losing Jacob Mayor to graduation and your other post player will likely be recruited by a bigger school.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Nua and I (which is the freshman that is 6ft3 have known each other for a long time we went to the same middle school (aliamanu Middle School) and we came to maryknoll together. He's not going to a bigger name school he's staying with us. and we have 2 more players coming up from intermediate Brandon Floyd(#23 post) And Sean Ogata(#10 point guard) so we shouldnt have a bad team next year especially with coach mello as our coach. Check out our AAU team (Sparticus) We all play on it and it will be a great season you should come and watch

We do hope Maryknoll does well next year, they have a great coaching program and the school supports the team very well. Tobias, thanks for passing on the information and please remain classy enough to just invite people to the games to form their own opinions. WE do not need people running their mouths about what they will do...show it on the court.

@Tobias, If you are the one they call TT then Maryknoll will be getting a quality guard next year. Plays like Marcus Keane without the bad attitude. Good luck young man. Don't let your skills go to your head. Keep a good attitude.
If you can keep your big man then good for you, but don't count on it just yet. All programs are in the recruiting mode right now.
Aliamanu Middle is where we found Malik. That school must be a basketball factory.

Mr. Basketball, Marcus Keene has one of the finest attitudes I have ever been around. His great attitude is infectious. He loves the game and loves his teammates more.

@HoopFanatic, perhaps I should not have opined since I don't know him and have never met him. I based my remarks on seeing him play and reading his posts here. I'll try to be more careful in the future. Mahalo.

im a friend of the keene family i can say they are good people, if you dont know first hand you shouldnt write crap about people, everyone is confusing his competetive drive for a bad attitude, that being said, kobes a jerk, mjs a jerk, lebrons a jerk they all have there moments.malik johnson is a product of hard work by him, his coaches and his family, he applied for schools like everybody does, again if you dont know shut your mouth

Nah, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I also can understand how some people mayb perceive the things you see also. But from a more personal level, this is what I see. He is competitive and loves to play the game of basketball. The kids always want to stay late and take extra shots.
