The Star-Bulletin has one, as does the Honolulu Advertiser... so why doesn't HawaiiHoops.com?

Let's make it happen!
Need some feedback:
- What should the format be?
- Who should vote? Nominations?
- Any other suggestions?Trying for Monday, February 2nd.
Posted 3 years ago # -
My opinion is that voters should be "veteran" bloggers with integrity. Nominees like:
Hawaiihoops
BasketballJones
Hoopfanatic
Hoopsitiz
Backpick
Shaka
JammerThere are more on this website, its just to name a few.
No favorites, this should not be the buddy system. These are knowledgable bloggers that seem to be accurate with their facts and unoffensive comments and also seem to be in the mix of Hawaii basketball, coaches and players. I have listened, believed in and enjoyed their hospitality for the last 2 season. They are loyal bloggers.
Maybe a few coaches......Iolani, Punahou, Kaimuki, Moanalua. All of these coaches are on BBJ's phone. Garrans.
Anyone hear from Hoopsitiz and Bballfan69?
Just my opinion.

Quick question brew? Why would you have Farrington above Punahou? Farrington is undefeated in the OIA, but it's a down year and they shouldn't be challenged until states. Well at least they should not.
Farrington lost to Punahou straight up and I'm pretty sure they also lost to Waiakea who has been erratic at best. That loss is a very bad loss.
Yes Punahou did lose to Iolani, but they avenged that loss, and it was very impressive, with a 29 point margin of victory.
Plus, Punahou has beaten Konawaena, MPI, Waiakea, Kamehameha, and loss to the #1 team in the nation by only 1 point.
What other team can make those claims?

2D you used Backpicks name and unoffensive in the same sentence. You must be tired.

wow brew..get your shit strait with the polls,
look at the records and what teams beat which
then post somethin upPosted 3 years ago # -
Your so funny HGN. I really don't know who Backpick could be but, he's cool, he's knowledgable. He's that friend everyone has that is always busting your balls and making you laugh, while at the same time telling you how it is straight up and truthful. It's easy to take text in the wrong way and take offense to many personalites and comments. Relax, go easy, open a beer, listen and obsorb what other bloggers say and be appreciative we have somewhere to shoot the shit. Always remember that "Aloha" is a two way street. Aloha Braddah.

Wow Princess Victoria I don't think that you have to react to my polls that way. I'm sorry if I might of made a mistake or two, but I tried. I never said my poll is correct or the end all, but what I did, was post my opinion, and if my opinion is wrong in your eyes and others then thats okay with me, but I don't think you have to use such language. What you could of done is give your opinion on the polls, and let me know where I might have gone wrong. I never disrespected anyone on here, so hopefully no disrespects me.
Hoopfanatic, the main reasons I put Farrington above Punahou.
1) Punahou did lose, and I feel if you lose you should move down in the polls.
2) Farrington is undefeated, although in a weak OIA league, I will not punish them for that.
3) Punahou did beat Farrington(by I believe 6-7) in the preseason, but once again they did lose to Iolani in the regular season.
4) Punahou did LOSE to the number 1 team in the nation, Farrington beat a top five team.Don't get me wrong I believe Punahou will battle for the state title, but for this poll I will go with Farrington as my #1 team.
Watch out for Konawaena. They seem to be playing really good basketball at this time.

No disrespect at all brew

So say the number 1 team has 0 losses and the number two team has 3 losses. Should the #1 team drop?
Punahou has beaten Farrington, Kona, Waiakea, Kamehameha, MPI, and Iolani. Farrington has not beaten as many top 10 teams.
Punahou is the only Hawaii team to beat Kona.
Punahou beat Farrington straight up. I put the most emphasis on head to head victories.
Honestly, you don't factor in strength of league? So if a Mountain West team is undefeated and an ACC team has one loss, you will not punish the team for being in a much weaker conference?
The OIA Red is weak this year. Other than Farrington, which team is even a top 10 team?
I just can't fathom making Farrington #1 when they don't have many quality wins and they lost to a struggling Waiakea team.

Hoopfanatic, good points and arguments, and you are probably right about Punahou being the #1 team. I just have a hard time keeping the #1 team at number 1 after a loss. If they do lose again, which I doubt, would you be willing to drop them in the polls, or would all those quality preseason wins outweigh another close loss to a quality ILH team.
Thanks, PrincessV

Hey HomeySliceNation, me offensive? Come on Boo, I would be offensive if I called you a Inbread Booger Eating NimRod, but I would never stoop that low. It's all about the Hoops my man. Unfortunatley the friendly fire hits the inocent at tmes.
How bout them BullDawgs? The sleeping giant awakes!Posted 3 years ago # -
Yeah how bout dem bulldawgs
i hope they get a W up at kahuku on fridayPosted 3 years ago # -
I wouldn't bet against them at this point.
Posted 3 years ago # -
If they keep losing then obviously they should go down. But 5-6 quality wins is more important than 1 loss which was avenged by 29 points. Other than the mainland team, how many quality wins does Farrington have?

Hawaii Hoops Administrator...
I suggest that there should be two lists created, one for Division 1 (boys and girls) and one for Division 2 (boys). Sorry, not that I don't think any less of the Division 2 girls, but I don't think there is enough interest in that area.
Having two separate lists would be more appealing to the masses since the Honolulu Advertiser and the Star Bulletin both produce only 1 Top 10.
Also, in order to be a voter in the Hawaii Hoops Top 10 each voter has to make themselves known to the Hawaii Hoops administration. This means at the very least a phone interview as well as furnishing contact information, i.e., cell phone, email, etc. This is just to verify that the voters are bonafide individuals and not crackers that are just out there to "root" for their own team.
Having coaches as voters would be cool, but I think a panel of just pure BASKETBALL JUNKIES voting for the Top 10 would be even better.
I used to have a vote in the Star Bulletin Top 10 and I have to admit that it is a TON of work. Checking scores, checking upcoming schedules, calling up coaches, etc., etc. But its a lot of fun too.
