Regarding Carvalho, I heard he's not going to play next year under the circumstances of baseball and recruitment. I am still trying to convince him because they should have a solid team if he plays. Very slim chance though!

In my opinion, he can't leave his brother hanging because I'm sure his little brother looks up to him.

    @ bibbyboi,

Cameron Ita ~ was a toss/close call to make my top 10...but he definitely deserves to be mentioned and by the time the season comes around again he could possibly be in the top 10.
    I'd also like to mention;
Kaeo Alapai (kam) and Kory Koi (kau) as 2 possible big contributors next year!

Jayce Carvalho ~ I also recall hearing that, he is seriously debating on "not" playing his senior year.
(for several reasons) however, baseball has brought upon some options at the next level that's making the circumstances much easier to deal with and I heard, the decision will be entirely "up to him".

    @ kinipopo,

I honestly think they could still have a solid team, even without him (Jayce). Furthermore, I think his brother could "hold his own" by making a name for himself.

I went to see the summer league game at b/g club this past week between Wai vs St. Joe and caught the second half of the first game. it looked like Kam varsity vs Kam Jv which included some 8th graders. the jv got blown out but a bright spot on that jv team is there point guard #24. Not sure of his name but he runs the team well and can score when needed. good ball handler and sees the court. Did fairly well vs apele and kagawa for a young kid.

Anyone know who this kid is? #24 for Kam JV - point guard.

Regarding #24...that my friend is Jalen Carvalho who's an 8th grader at Kam-HI. Yes he is brothers to Jayce Carvalho. Rumors say that he could be the next Bruce Ferreira!!!

Kinipopo, don't give Bruce that much credit! 4 sure, Jalen will be a force in the BIIF and the state for many years to come. He is much taller, and as an 8th grader he has great court vision, really good passer, attacks the hole very well, and has a sweet stroke from the outside. I had the pleasure of coaching him in his earlier years, and he was and remains to be one of the hardest workers on the court and he approaches the game with a great attitude, which is why I feel he will be one of the elite players in the BIIF. Just my thoughts!!!!!

Cowboys have some solid returnees. Erik Estabilio, Weston Cazimero and Christopher Roxburgh are goin to be contributors

    @ kinipopo & Brew,

Believe me when I say....Jalen (Kamehameha) will never live up to a community....wait a minute,...more like a "STATE" recognized legend such as a "Bruce Ferreira."
...sorry but you can't compare a legend to an 8th grader! Yes, the kid maybe an "up an coming" player, but he has a few loooong "hard-working" years ahead of him to at-least make some "sort of" an impact in the BIIF in the future, let alone, live up to someone like Bruce Almighty!!!!

    BTW,
there's a kid called Noah "mongoose quick" Ferreira (6th grader) hitting "jimmy'z and dishing out dimes with the big boyz now days!!!!...and that elder sister of his (Alyssa "reigning 3's" Ferreira) is definitely making a name for herself as a baller in this town. "Da Genes are at work!"

    @ cowgirlz,

    Just hearing those names....
Estabilio, Cazimero and Roxburgh brings back "old school" memories of human highlight films up north!!!
Da Cowboys from Kohala always "bring it!" They seem to have the talent, discipline and hard work to compete year after year! (not to mention the coaching is stellar!!!)

In the BIIF Kohala has be contenders in basketball, so seeing familiar names are not surprising to anyone. I had the opportunity to speak with coach Pacheco face to face and he's pretty excited about the possibilities with his team. I am wondering whatever happened to MM31? I asked some simple questions and had no response.

KinipopoHinai sounds like someone I know, but I will remain respectful. Getting back to the Top returnees here in the BIIF. I like Adam Andrade of Kamehameah-HI. Yes, he's the cousin to Jacob and has some RANGE in is shot......
Looking forward to a quiet summer.

@OldG, nice pick with andrade....can't believe i forgot about him...really like his game..probably Kamehameha's best shooter and is a pretty good defender....man kam is gonna be pretty stacked this year...

    @ bibbyboi

Absolutely Andrade is pretty much the best shooter they got from 3 point range. It's either him or Lanaki. Do you still think that Kam will still be stacked without their best player?

    @ KinipopoHinai:
Best Player? Apele is not playing? Why not?
That team is loaded from top to bottom. Its sad to see him not playing..

I also think St Joe will be a force to wreck with.. They return the BIG 3.. Hopefully they find role player to keep them in games..

Hilo also has some young talent and will also compete with Kam, St Joe, and Waiakea

    @BIFFan

My apologies! I stand corrected because even though I was talking about Carvalho, Apele is up there. I'm saying that Apele is their all around best player, but Carvalho is like his right hand man. Just my humble opinion, sorry to put a scare. lol

For the West in no particular order,

    1.Kaumu Lorenzo
    2.Deion Utrera
    3.Jacob Ontiveros
    4.Rokas Ceslunevicous
    5.Dakota Berman
    6.Jordan Furrer
    7.Alika Alip
    8.Chris Roxburgh

Kamehameha should be really stacked next year. Ill be waiting for next season to come. They will definitely be in my top ten in the state. Iolani, Kam-Kapalama, and Punahou should all be stacked again next season.
To all the boys out there, train and practice hard.

    Aloha

I agree adam andrade will be an improtant force with his shooting for kam, he will be needed to spread the court. due to kagawa needing alot to improve with his shooting at the varsity level.

I wouldn't say that one is more all around or the best player then the other.
I think carvalho and apele are equally important to the team. both bring different aspects to the team /biif. besides being 1 and 2 in scoring on the team and both being the best defenders kamehameha has, coach pacheco needs both.

Apele - quickness, dribbling and running offense
Carvalho - size, quickness, rebounding and inside mid range force

in my honest opinion i think they will need both players to succeed maybe not so much on the island but more so at the state level.
but between the two i think in the long run they will miss more of carvalho then apele due to the size and the many guards kam has. but thats just my basketball thoughts.
I really hope Carvalho plays next year, not only because of the team being that much better with him but it will be fun to watch the Apele-Carvalho connection. They do work good together.

but they really need better shooting form the guards outside to help the big guys like cabato, carvalho and alapai.

I would also like to add Fisher to the top 10 even though he's older then he is listed on roster.

    @Kings1
Great input and I like your explanations. I think if their is that connection going into next year, they would be unstoppable in the BIIF. If Carvalho comes back, maybe Alapai should move to the 3 spot (SF) in the line-up because he can should from the outside, but just needs to get more quicker. Cabatu is a force on the inside as well and Andrade can be a tremendous help if he makes his shots.

Fisher on the other hand is a stud on both sides of the court. He's aggressive, but he will need to work really hard with the team that they'll have next year. Though I think they'll be okay!

One name to add from the West is Jacob Kuluwaimaka - was one of the few bright spots from Kona last year, he will be a senior. Seen Apele play in the summer league, looks like he's been keeping time in the gym...he will be a beast as a junior.

Jacob Kuluwaimaka? What position was he for Kona this past season?

    @ Kinipopo,

He is a "Forward" at about 5"10 or so...

He should do well in helping Kona improve this up and coming year!

Why are you guys still talking about Carvalho. From what everyone is saying, he's not coming back due to baseball, etc.. He not playing with the summer league so I think his teammates can play with out him..

He is a kid that has full of talent in baseball and basketball.. I wish him the best in baseball..

In my opinion, he still should be playing basketball and he should be playing in the summer league. He should be playing with all his temmamtes and getting better. Cause I know that all Oahu team are playing year round.. Thats what you need to do to make it BIG

    PG- APELE
    SG- HANDY
    SF- WONG
    PF- OHARA-SAFT
    C- FAIRMAN

    @ Player 23

I understand your point! I think it's just the hype that Kam-Hi could have a great team next year. They're already good from what I've seen in the summer league, but in my opinion I think they would be just much better! Oh and I have a question, why do you have Ohara-Saft listed as a power forward because I know it's an opinion but isn't he a small forward or something? Just asking and wanted to know...

he always played high school baseball during the summer basketball leagues. i think Adam Andrade plays on the baseball team to and doesn't play on the summer league basketball team.
i think most of the players that play in the basketball summer leagues only play basketball.

I don't think he will miss out on his sr. year of high school basketball. just what i think.
but with or without him they will be good next year. With him they would be better. no doubt.

Hilo is the team that needs to be in the summer league but i a few players also play baseball during this time.

players to watch for in the biif

    Jonah Bredeson
    Po'okela Hanato-Smith
    Brandon Awa
    Austin Dante
    Jodd Carter
    Micah Carter
    Aliyah Pana
