    2. Thelma's - Thelma's Special
    3. Ethel's - Tataki Sashimi
    4. Ono's Hawaiian Food - Lau Lau
    5. Alicia's Market - Roast Beef w/ Sweet Horseradish
    6. KJ's - Fried Chicken
    7. Dot's - Hamburger Steak
    8. Elena's Restaurant - Pork Adobo Fried Rice Omelet
    9. Kapiolani Coffee Shop - Ox Tail Soup

So I am trying just to list one thing from different food joints. If not, Helena's would have a lot more choices.

For us outer island peeps from the old skool daze.

    Zippy's
    Gracies
    Likelike
    Shiro's
And every place else that was open after hours.

Helena's and Elena's are great places to chow down. Used to go the Elena's a lot when I worked at Footlocker Pearlridge. Don't mind if I give you a jingle here on HOOPSHI HF before i take my next visit to O'ahu.

HF -- I'm not one to write about food on this blog or any other blog, and I don't watch that darn Food Channel -- it gives me gas!

But I heard the popular "Da Kitchen" restaurant from Maui opened one on Oahu and it'll surely become a hit with your chewing buddies.

Each summer I go to Maui to do a basketball camp and each time the coaches go to Da Kitchen two or three times during the week. It has great food and great desserts, plus excellent service.

If you find out where the new Da Kitchen is in Honolulu, it's a place I'm sure you'll be glad you tried.

Okay, that's it ... I got my one and only food suggestion out of the way. Now back to hoops.

    Raw crab from Alicia's

Oxtail Soup from Mermaid Bar at Neiman Marcus. Only on Thursdays. Meatloaf there too. Only on Wednesdays.

Roast Pork and Char Siu from Wing Loy.

Squid Luau and Fried Butterfish from Helena's.

Dry Aku from this place in Chinatown. No more one name, but I know exactly where it is. On Kekaulike Street. The Aku at Fresh Catch on Waialae is good too.

    Soon's Special from Soon's Kalbi.

Crispy Gau Gees from Waiau Chop Suey. These buggahs are big like hand grenades!

    Manapua from Royal Kitchen.

Mix plate, chili on the rice from Rainbows.

Ed, have you tried Da Kitchen on Isenburg next to Maple Garden? I hear it's new and good and they give huge portions.

OK, so I just went to this place for lunch 30 mins ago. It is called Da Kitchen.

It is located across Old Stadium Park in the St. Louis Clubhouse.

I am not impressed. First of all we had Hawaiian Plate, Korean Mix, and Chicken Cutlet w/ Mushroom Gravy. The portions are big, but for $17.50 for a Korean Plate, it better be huge.

The Meat Juhn was burnt and bland. The Kalbi was nothing better than something you can get at Yummy's or Pearl's. The Korean Chicken was bland and too firm.

The Hawaiian Plate was quite generic. It's hard to get kalua pig, lomi, chicken longrice, at a plate lunch joint when there are so many Hawaiian Food places on Oahu.

You do get a lot of food. But their plate lunch prices range from $12.00-$17.50. That is quite high.

For $5.00 I can go to Helena's and eat way more tasty food. Just my 2 cents. I was not impressed at all.

Liliha Bakery has the best pancakes in my opinion. They are so light, fluffy, and tasty, that you do not need to drench it in sauce (macadamia) to eat it.

The macadamia nut sauce at Boots is good, but it hides the true star, the hot cakes.

liliha bakery! if their pancakes are anything like their all- butter poundcakes! (only store that carries liliha bakery all-butter poundcakes is KTA) one loaf with one quart of nestles chocolate milk and i'm in heaven! (instructions: put cake in bowl, pour quart of nestles over the top. let milk soak in, watch brada smile)
