Snowman...Top Coaches in the ILH are from Punahou????
You got to be kidding me! Please explain....
Well Jones up to yesterday they were the best in the state, plus earlier in the season they beat bishop gorman and lost to the number 3 team in maryland close, so thats why i put them on top. Plus i should MPI off beating Punahou and putting waianae or anuenue on.
If you guys are wondering why i put St. Louis on the bottom is because they got so much talent that the coach dont know what to do with it and look at their record
Punahou has been winning games this year because of the basktball players and athletes that they put on the court, not because of the coaches. Last night's loss validates that thought. Three times this year in the regular season Punahou has been down by 20+ points at some point in the game and had to rally back twice to win, with their 3rd time not being so charming.
The best record or even the best players does not always mean the best coaching staff, such as the case at Punahou. The school's administration (coaches, athletic directors, boosters) might be great at assembling talent, but its what you do with that talent makes someone a great coach.
Take a look at Doc Mugiishi and his staff. Other than Taylor Mounts and Pablo Warner, the rest of the team are all young little midgets compared to the rest of the league. But the staff at Iolani are masters when it comes to realizing their strengths and maximizing that potential to its fullest. If you want to talk about head to head matchups with mainland teams, sure Punahou beat Bishop Gorman out of Nevada and lost a close one to Our Lady of Good Counsel of Maryland. But Iolani has played #10 ranked Rice of New York, #14 Mount Vernon also of New York, #15 LeFlore from Alabama and Mason County the number 1 team out of Kentucky. Although they lost every game to these teams, Iolani was highly competitive in all of those games. Matter of fact, Iolani had the lead at one point in the 2nd half against Mason County.
To add...
I agree that Tengan is underacheiving this year with the team that he has. I know he's a good coach as he has lead a number of Crusader teams to the state tourney. Maybe without having Duke on the sidelines with him and also starting the season late because of football is really taking a toll.
Also, to add to my post above...Bishop Gorman and Our Lady of Good Counsel would get shredded if they played the teams I mentioned above. Just my honest opinion.
